"Crazy results?" There weren't any results. You tell us there's a small range of voltage difference, but that's just a well-balanced pack. That's normal.
Gud info! I had gud success with pulling a dealer installed replacement hybrid battery from a wrecked 08, after doing an investigation the date codes after 2017 they have the latest 3 gen cells already in a 2nd gen pac and getting the best mpg my Prius has ever seen! I have tried the mod using lithium cells it works but not without it issues they suffer greatly in cold weather matter of fact I got my worst mileage (avg 36) this pass winter! Thanks Nate
So, I can take a gen 4 battery, take out my old 2007 gen 2 prius battery bank, and then just transplant? (safety aside). Will it work? No fire? Help me idiot proof this concept.
I'm right there with you buddy. Same year for me too. My battery isn't dead yet, but the performance is going downhill and I was Thinking "why not get lithium?" I'm waiting for someone to educate me on this.
you need to remove and open a traction battery assembly, then unbolt each (28) ni-mh 6cell battery modules and replace it with gen4 modules, they are same size little improved chemistry, you are free to mix them in a random order with gen2\3\4 nimh modules in case if you want to safe money and just want to put it back on the road. just match the capacity and internal resistance.
@@jacklynch3333 project lithium, mixed reviews. Not for NY winters for sure. There are some DIY boys buying 3000w inverters with 230v output and decent capacity 48v lifepo battery packs to topcharge nimh traction battery on the go,2 wires straight to HV battery post , for city traffic they got like 75-80MPG from what i remember.
What did you end up doing??? My understanding is that most gen4 battery cells are Li-Ion while some are NiMH…. They say charging system is different however I can’t confirm because that’s what I read from a random blog…. Anyone wanna elaborate. Thanks
Good question. Iv only done one lithium ion battery replacement and it’s been about 2 years ago and the people haven’t complained yet but I can’t stand behind them 100 percent because I haven’t seen their capabilities yet
I think my battery is going out 08 Prius it does fine in the city under 50 miles an hour drives normal but when I get on the freeway the battery dies quick I can only do 55 and the battery stays around 45 to 50%. Where can I find Jen for sales I looked on car-parts. And they are pretty pricey is there anywhere else I can get a good deal also is the Camry battery or corolla battery work do they do they have the same amount of battery cells. Thanks for any help I am 60 miles north of Houston
The crazy thing when I run the Dr. Prius at the voltage difference is no more than .2% and the Delta state of charge is always zero. Also when I break all the graph turns red and the battery voltage turns red also when I accelerate hard that the voltage goes down to 195 and it turns red and also all the bar graph turns red.
you can use individual modules, but not the battery assembly, gen3 has recessed battery cooling system, still same 28 individual 6cell ni-mh modules, and in gen 3 they dying exactly because of that recessed cooling system
Can I do this using both types nimh cells and lithium cells for my third gen prius? Which type did you use? Does this work from both the regular 4th gen prius and the prime?
I upgraded my 2007 Toyota Prius to a plug-in with a 20 kWh battery pack. The car cost me around $4,000, and the battery upgrade was another $4,000- ruclips.net/video/q3z28DAs9KM/видео.html

Awesome!
seems like a good idea but a bit short :), how about longer test time and results?
Curious if this can be done to a gen 2?
Yes it can!
Do you know if the Prius Prime Battery pack Cells fit on a Gen2 Prius.
It looks like they will. I know 3 will go into a 2
Good work

Looks like this is just for US guys, can anyone recommend a place to buy in Europe?
Cool! But I’m confused on one thing. You only used 20 gen 4 cells to replace the gen 2 28 cells? How does that work?
Prius c is what I put the new cells in and they only have 20 cells
how common do the ecu get ruined as well with the battery?
It does happen and Iv done a few but it’s not very common
What if we but 2 batteries 😮
Is it better to go this route or do lithium ion packs, I have a 12 prius v

Any idea if you can directly plug a gen 2 battery into a Gen 3.
My gen 3 needs a complete battery and I have a wrecked Gen 2.
No but you can use the cells from the Gen 2

I have code P0A80 in 2010 Prius, does that mean I need to replace cells? How does a person contact you to buy parts?
