Sophie, don't hate on me for ranting.....but apparently we should never remove ALL the strings at the same time because it screws up the RELIEF of the neck.i.....it should be done one by one i sometimes hear little nuggets of stuff.......say for example experienced guitar TECHS who will say things like they UP TUNE the strings on a FIRST USE guitar at a gig........up tuned by several micro tones because as is often the case , an artist will be nervous at the start of a gig and needy to get their point over and impress and they OVER STRUM and overplay the guitar to quite an extent for at least 20 mins......so much so that the strings DE TUNE and come down to correct concert pitch Magnus magnuson on guitars "i am not"........i.just love to rant

My favorite are the D'Addario - NYXL Electric over XS. They are even faster for shredding, more bendable for pinch harmonics like Zakk Wylde. And they just don't break either. So even if you are reaching guitar God status of @bernth or Dive Bomb EVH or Dime Bag ... These strings are off the charts Amazing!!! 🎸

Two things. One. Now you’re Keith Richard. 5 string player. Also Rolling Stones guitarist but who would know that. Second. For slick awesome strings. Sewing machine oil. Just a dab on a paper towel whip them down. Play on super slick awesome strings. One of the best tricks I have ever learned. Also a little goes a long long way. I have had the same 1 oz of oil for almost 2 years. Use it every time I finish / start playing. You could even use it to refill a fast fret applicator. Like refilling a zippo lighter. An always pencil in your nut groves. When changing strings. Another little tip that does amazingness. These two tips have changed my guitar string life and playing ability. For the better.
This is why every time my high E snaps I just replace every string. Or I'll just go without a high E because I never really need it, I always mute it anyway because my singing can't go that high unless I'm screaming like Kurt Cobain
In my 30+ years of being a professional musician and tutor. It's a preference when it comes to strings there are no 'best strings'. For example, i prefer D'addario strings on classical guitar and swear by ernie ball hybrid slinky on electric guitar.

I’ve been playing D’Addario strings for 46 years. I’ve played pretty much every other brand, and live, or in the studio, the NYXL’s and EXL’s hold up, don’t break, and have a really nice snappy mid range sound when tracking DI signals. They aren’t bright for as long, so i do have to change them more than, say, Elixir’s, but for durability, and roadworthiness, they’re the best, in my humble opinion. Nothing, and i mean nothing sucks worse than snapping a string on song two of a set. If you’re lucky, you’ve brought a backup guitar. If not, it’s a bass solo whilst you change strings! Hahahah
@@Riikkyy i usually change my strings once a week, if I’m recording a certain guitar a lot. When i was playing live, I’d change them every other day, and show days. So, i don’t really see a green coating on my fingers, or the strings. I do have a 1982 Hondo 737, i bought for 300.00- it is very close to my first electric- out of nostalgia, and i found that once i cleaned the neck, polished the frets, and set it up, the new strings did discolor faster than normal. I don’t know if it’s the frets, the fretboard, or the strings, but it’s the first time I’ve ever had that happen using D’Addario’s

Sophie change your strings one at a time. There is 16,000 PSI on the guitar neck when it is all strung up properly and that’s a lot of stress when you clip them all at once.

Recently started using 9.5 for the first time. Still trying to find something better than 9 and 10.
I’ve done that. One time I had to run a 12-46 custom setup. Had to steal a 12 from my drop B setup to throw in a standard setup.
