Hey lovelies! I really hope you enjoy my cover of Cliffs Of Dover 🫶🎸 I've wanted to learn this song in its entirety since I was about 8 and first played it on guitar hero hahaha. Tabs, backing track & exclusive content on my Patreon! www.patreon.com/sophieburrell 👽❣
Check out 'Liszt' (Hungarian Rhapsody No.2) or 'Paganini' (Caprice No.24), both are utter lunatics on their instruments... and then check the years they were writing their incredible music in! Edit: Eric Johnson is a bloody genius though too ;-)
Eric Johnson's genuis is in his composition. Don't get me wrong, he's a stunning talented guitar player as well, and this cover does it justice to be sure. But *composing* a piece like this takes a certain mad genius, and that's where his talent really shines.
I've been playing guitar for longer than you've been alive, and there's no way I'd attempt to play this classic on camera... but you absolutely nailed it. Amazing playing here.
She’s been playing this song for many years and you can compare her progress from her video where she shows her guitar playing progress. It didn’t only take her a month, it literally took her many years! Go watch the video and you’ll see! Anyone who’s been playing guitar for many years can play this song if you spend a few years practicing it. And if you can’t, then your not a very good guitar player, that’s just facts! She makes great videos and is absolutely talented, but her saying it took her a month is 100% dishonest.
Hit me right in the heart strings with this one. My father who is not with us anymore used to jam this on his 85' Strat and we would all watch amazed cheering him on. He was one hell of a man. Died on 11/11/06 another Angel learned all His lessons. Thanks for this Soph
I think the most mindmelting part of this, is how calm and laid back you seem playing this. Like, this seems like you’ve performed it 100 times. Good on you
Sophie, I've been playing for 37 years and 'Cliffs of Dover' changed my life forever. It took me personally a couple years to get it. (we didn't have great resources to learn back then) Anyways, you're a true player and it's so awesome to witness how great you've become. Respect 👊🔥💯🖤😊
That was absolutely amazing - bought the CD when it first came out. I was mesmerized by the song - and your cover has inspired this 56 year old man to pick up the Strat and get back to learning this song!!

He wants to achieve a goal he gave up on once, not be the Next Big Thing. With Sophie's video slowed down to .25 and the guitar tabs, even if he has to do it a few notes at a time, I think it's both achievable and worthwhile. Just a few notes at a time. Pretty soon? Voila!
Amazing job!!! I've been playing for over 27 yes now and I've only attempted to play a very small portion of this song and back in those days we didn't have what you kids have nowadays but after watching you play this, you've actually inspired me to learn this masterpiece!!! Thank you!!!!
I had the privilege to see this performed live by Eric from a distance of about 10 feet many years ago. A friend of mine from high school knew him (I'm not sure how, anymore), and was comped several tickets to his show, and he invited myself and several other friends to come along, at a small venue in Houston. You really did it justice.
I've been learning Cliffs of Dover for more than a month and I have only managed to dominate the intro, it really is a pilgrimage. Love your music, great guitar playing as always, thank you Sophie.
If you can dominate the intro, the rest of the song isn't as hard. I'm now faced with the same task of learning this in a month (playing at Halloween party).
We live near Eric in Central Texas and have seen him many many times at outdoor & indoor venues. One of my favorite guitarist & vocalist. He has a great A & B amp setup.💯 🔥🎸🔥

WOW... I really like this version 'cause it came out sweet, clean, and was perfectly executed!!!
That's always been a special tune. You perform it pretty good.
Dang, well done, and that ripx sounds awesome!
Maravilloso cover, tienes una técnica envidiable 🎸👏🏻
First time I’ve seen you play. I love this track and love that you learned it. I’ve been playing for decades but still love to see young blood like you nailing stuff like this. You’re a breath of fresh air. Well done. Great presentation and nice fluid playing. Keep it up girl. 👍😊👏👏👏
Congrats, Sophie! Thanks for showing us your dedication and talent by covering this song!
Sophie, are you a classically trained violinist? If not, you are an anomaly.
The precision is absolutely spectacular.
Thank you for sharing!
Beautiful guitar playing 🎶
Your tone is right on.
I rarely, if ever, surface on platforms, anywhere, but that was timeless and lovely, young lady. Well done.... well done indeed....
Eric Johnson. is clapping in amazement. You hit it right on the button.
Awesome playing, very smooth and abit cute sound even, different and very close to the original at the same, less aggresive picking maybe? And maybe a bit cut down i dunno, anyway i saw u on magician mansion and happy about checking this channel out and find out about it even, and good job on doing the effort of learning a complex song like cliffs of dover!
So fluent. You don’t play like your rushing it. Great job. Would love to hear some original ideas.
that tone 😭🖤🖤
I love this song's main theme. It sounds like my childhood's sunday mornings to me, for some reason. Great cover.
You nailed it! One of my favorite instrumental tracks ever!
Muito top mina❤
Perfect!!! I did not think anyone could cover this so well!!!!
*jaw drop* i've tried many times to even get close to the mastery and tone of the song.... you've done it
She did great! And not to mention she's incredibly gorgeous.
I sold my cherished blackface Fender Twin Reverb amp to Eric Johnson...Sophie really tears this song up and shows what practice can do.
Wait what? When, how, under what circumstances? You can't make a comment like that and leave us hanging...
@@Hagg-o-tron Don't be gullible. Don't fall for internet rando trolls and liars!
I am impressed by anyone that can complete this song with little to no mistakes. I think of mistakes as flavor and soul anyway. Great video.
Wow . The sound you accomplished is simply beautyful. Thank you for giving me a nice moment in paradise
great technique, effort, tone, lightning, beauty. really amazing. a piece of art indeed
Epic! I listened to that song whilst undergoing surgery when I was a kid. Thank you for sharing! 🧘♀🎸
