The film gets dragged for not being as good as the original or even Halloween II, and it gets lumped in with the negativity surrounding the "Thorn trilogy" of 4, 5, and 6. But Halloween 4 is actually one of the better sequels in the franchise. It is well directed with a spooky foggy atmosphere, an ethereal score with creepy ambient music, introduces new characters who are actually likeable and sympathetic, and it opens up the story to involve Michael's greater impact on Haddonfield and its people.
I always liked Micheal's mask here, especially in the dream sequence. The detail of the ambulance being included in her dream suggested early on Jamie and Micheal were connected.
The mask supposedly looked like the 78 one, but painted a weird color. They used white spray paint to get it right, but overdid the paint so all the features are gone. I don't know how you could fuck it up, and NOT fix it. Also the pink haired mask is basically a mask before they resprayed it. It got into the shot and no one said we need to edit this shit. Dr loomis is right, he is pure evil, and not FULLY human. John carpenter said he wrote him to be the actual boogeyman, a force of nature you can't stop. Human with a supernatural edge. Pleasance started to love the franchise, he said he wanted to keep making more after part 6 in 1995, but he died that same year.
There's been many stories as to why the mask's hair was white. The one I like is that they couldn't use the original 78 mask because it was too old and worn up, and they wanted to use an untouched William Shatner mask for one shot but they felt it looked too off. (Basically it was a early screen test used for the actual movie.) And then they decided to make a new and original mask for the movie and it really looked bad IMO. I'm not sure why didn't they just tweak the mask like they did with the original like it wasn't like the Captain Kirk mask from the original was the last one ever.
@@brandonspain12345 Oh I know, and there seemed to be competent people working on it as it is considered by many to be the best sequel, but at the same time there were incompetent people working on it. Like how do you leave in the shot of the pink haired mask when he throws loomis through the classroom door? They say it was a slip up that it was 2 or 3 am when shooting that scene, and people were out of it lol OK.
Happy birthday Syd, hope you feel better soon. Fyi, you've already seen the best 4 Halloween movies now. Enjoy the decent into madness that is the rest of the films.

The girl in the first film, Lindsay was intended to be Rachel's friend in the car, picking Jamie up from school. Of course Jamie's name was a homage to Jamie Lee. Danielle Harris is my favourite child actor, i love her in the Halloween films, but also in Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead, and in her early teens in The Last Boy Scout, playing the foul mouthed daughter of Bruce Willis, lol.
I’m quite impressed you noticed the blonde hair. I’ve watched this movie dozens of times and never noticed it until way later when other people pointed it out.
Yeah there is alot wrong with this film but it still happens to be one of my favorites in thr series. Probably because I remember watching it when I was a kid and could relate more to the niece being hunted down by Michael? Idk. It's nostalgic for me.
This is still my favorite Halloween film of the whole franchise after seeing Halloween Kills. Myers was like the phantom in the mist. Today's Halloween still can't get Myers character right. He's not suppose to be a Jason Voorhees wannabe, he's suppose to be this Spectator in the darkness. Always watching you. The creepy parts where at first glance, you don't see him, but watching the movie the 200th time, I noticed his face in the background, is so creepy. Plus Danielle Harris stole the show with Rachel and Loomis. I even loved Meeker. This movie had no flaws to it imo. It was written to perfection and the characters were smartly written. Better than the crap today and any sequel come after. This was the last time I was actually really creeped out by Michael Myers.
I always watch your videos around Halloween time. You are brave to watch these movies alone, I couldn't do it, I have to have someone else with me so we can be traumatised together lol. Happy Halloween 🎃👻🧡🍂🎬
In Halloween II, Laurie Strode shot both of Michael's eyes out, and Dr. Loomis lit him up like a human torch, so even if Michael could have survived, which is unlikely, how is he even able to move or see anything?
Hi Sydney. I'm enjoying your horror reviews/reactions, so I thought I'd recommend a few titles. Hopefully you haven't seen them already. "The Brood" (1979, I think), "Hell Night" (1981), "The Funhouse" 1980/81), "The Stepfather" (1987) and "Dressed to Kill" (1980). Hope you enjoy them. Feel better.
That’s never been confirmed. I think it’s just coincidence and a nice callback. If it was supposed to be Lindsey from the original, why not utilize her more?
Lindsey from the first movie had like black/dark brown hair. This one has very light brown or blonde. I know hair dye exists but if youre reusing the same character it would make more sense to keep as many details the same. I've also never heard this theory before. I'll have to agree on the coincidence idea.
One of my favorites of the franchise I think the flaws are mostly the mask being cheap and the school scene with the blonde hair it looked silly but overall the film itself is awesome Donald Pleasence, Ellie Cornell, & Danielle Harris were all great it has atmosphere, suspense and has a cool atmospheric opening that set the tone for the rest of the film.
When they grabbed the mask filming the school scene they managed to grab an unfinished mask. How nobody on set didn't notice is beyond me but it's been suggested that everyone was just so dead tired by that point of filming that day. I think the skin might have been flesh colored too instead of white but I'm not sure.
No, Rachel was not the little girl in the first movie. You are remembering Lindsay Wallace, who was played by a young Kyle Richards of future "Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills" fame (and Paris Hilton's aunt). The Lindsay who drives Rachel and Jamie to see Brady after school is supposed to be the same Lindsay, but it's not referenced outright and she's clearly not played by Richards. However, in the recently released "Halloween Kills", Richards does return to reprise the role as an adult Lindsay.
I love your reviews. I'm sorry you have Covid. I had it last December and was in bed for a week; I'm glad your case is more mild due to being vaccinated. Did anyone ever tell you that you look like the actress Jess Weixler? I mean that as a compliment. 🙂
Maybe Michael got skin grafts to his arm? As long as I get past Michael looking like Data from Star Trek wearing shoulder pads, Danielle Harris makes it worth watching. I always thought it was odd they'd sell that mask in that town given what he's done. Glad you're doing ok, you're looking good down to your nails, another good video & you can talk as much as you need to
8:30 Some of the most unbearable little shits I've seen in a movie lol. Seems like 90% of the fanbase, myself included, either like or love this movie. The same can't be said for the mask lol.
@@ScaredPale I watched the new 4K of it the other night. Seeing it FINALLY restored and with the correct audio was great. Curious to see what you'll think of Halloween 5. There's a lot of problems with it and I understand the hate but I still love it lol.
I don't understand why so many people hated Halloween 4,5, and 6. I loved all of them. I just like the Jamie story and how it continues into 5 and 6. If you remember the kid Tommy from the first one he is in 6. I think they should have stopped after 6. Everything after that sucked and the new Halloween Kills looks pretty stupid.
4 is a solid follow-up and did its best to explain what happened after 2 in regard to Michael/Loomis. It was also, in my opinion, the most atmospheric sequel. This movie really felt like Halloween in small, rural town Illinois. The acting, even from the co-stars (e.g. Meeker, Earl, etc.) is quite good and it adds a bunch of realistic characters with actual character arcs throughout the film. I would even say I liked it more than 2. Now, that I got that out of the way, 5 and 6 stink, and you can tell. They feel like rushed, incomplete messes. There are numerous continuity errors as well. The only thing I liked about H20 was the ending. If the series had ended that way, I would have been satisfied.
Was just watching new mutants. Maybe Jaime is a Mutant her power is psychic or at least a connection with Michael. Michael is Mutant too. His power is being indestructible or the boogeyman lol. With a little bit of misting like Jason does in his video game lol.
I love your nails! Halloween 4 was... something. I think it starts off good, but it doesn't feel like a sequel. It just isn't as tightly written as Parts 1 to 3, it doesn't have that same "look" and the editing is very different, and the mask is just awful. What's worse is that it IS a Myers mask, same as the first two movies, except they ruined it. I never understood why they could never get that mask right. In the first movie Tommy Lee Wallace took a cheap Captain Kirk mask made by Don Post Studios and modified it with scissors and a cans of spray paint. The sequels probably spent a LOT more money on their masks, Stan Winston made the masks for H20, and yet they all look like utter trash. That said, I've grown to be fond of the film, and it's certainly the best of the post Halloween II sequels and remakes until the 2018 reboot.
I hate the mask too but technically the mask isn't the same one as the first so it looking different isn't out of the ordinary. But it does suck that it looks so unorthodox but at least it's not Halloween 5 bad.
Danielle carried this movie. I think it was less Michael and more the evil that possessed Michael in first place to make him do what he did lol. Sane with her. Hope you feeling better. So awesome you still doing these. Got covid in the brain. I'm n the mid brain lol. Covid so lucky to be in your brain lol. Feel better. Get some rest and beauty sleep lol.
Maybe jaime got the shining that's how she can see him with his mask ANF outfit before he got them and seeing the ambulance which had crashed before that probably and he hadn't even gotten to haddonfield it seemed like and seeing young Michael as a clown in the mirror lol. She's got the shining or the touch or whatever Stephen King likes to call psychics lol
.. you're actually the first person I heard that hates this. I have to say that myers was at his best in this movie. An element of the original michael is that he was smart.. he killed all of Laurie's friends eliminating any witnesses or help.. and lured her to the house.. and was fairly undercover in that movie. In this movie.. unlock the original 2.. the cops actually believed Loomis and even with the cops tracking him down.. he was still a step ahead of everyone. Add that with his ghost like movements and brute force.. he was perfect. This film had it all.. suspense, perfect amount of gore.. and a decent tempo.
I think the first 2 Halloween movies were great the 4th and 5th were very good, the 6th one that's when it started to go downhill the two more recent ones 2018 and 2021 were very as well just like 4 and 5.
Donald hated that Prosthetic on his face he thought it looked like a fried egg and got the effects team to change it but because they screwed up the editing some of the footage of the fried egg burn made it into the movie. And yeah Halloween 5 completely flushes the end of this one down the toilet. The Director of 5 had no idea what he was doing and the script kept getting rewrites while shooting so it was a total mess.
The blonde hair mask was a mistake. They didn't have the time or the budget to reshoot that scene with the right mask, so they just left it in the movie.
You've got me questioning who exactly you've been polling. You "get why people hate on this movie"? If anything, this is regarded as one of the better sequels among Halloween fans.
When I was doing this series, on the previous video people would give me their opinion about the next one. For example “Ugh stop here it’s all down hill the next film.” Stuff like that
This one wasn't too bad but it definitely starts to go down hill from here😂 i recommend watching the Hallwoeen 2018 movie and it's sequel, it's follows 40 years after the first movie and completely ignores all the others
I like all your thinking/talking. As for bad movies, 4 and 5 are at least palatable entries. 6 is where it really goes bad. But then we have another great entry afterward called H20. The Zombie films are not true Halloween. I suggest skipping those.
It is a good point about the mask taking away the menacing nature of Myers. All in all I think the movie was ok but the very “dopey” looking Myers took away any aspect of fright or terror. Also the shoulder pads under the costume give a very stiff/awkward look and feel to Myers in general. Absolute horrible 0/10 costuming for Myers destroys any real scare or horror.
The mask seems to lack details. There's no contouring like in past movies. It's really unfortunate how a lot of movies can't seem to duplicate the mask effectively.
Put it this way you are correct when it comes to Michael Myers. John Carpenter meant to kill off Michael Myers at end off Halloween 2. Once an for all the end of his story he was meant to be permanently dead. That's why when the movie studio said we want to bring back Michael Myers in Halloween 4. John Carpenter sold his shares in the Halloween franchise walked away. Because he was done with Michael Myers he killed him off in Halloween 2. He wanted to do other things then make movies with Michael Myers. That's why Jamie Lee Curtis did not return same thing. She wanted to do other things then make movies about Michael Myers. The original intention of this movies ending is that Michael Myers is officially dead again. The evil or whatever went from him into Jamie she was. Supposed to take over be the next Michael Myers basically. But once again the movie studio interfered retconed the ending. In Halloween 5 to whare he survived basically from this point on. If that look like Michael Myers died or was going to be replaced. The guy who owned the rights to Halloween made them change the ending. If they would not do that he had the next person retcon that ending in the next movie. He did literally everything to keep Michael Myers alive he didn't care about story or nothing else. As long as Michael Myers was alive at the end of the day that's all that mattered. So he could be in the next movie so Halloween 4,5,6 are one of the timelines.
@@ScaredPale That's what happens when one person has all of the power. Literally as soon as John Carpenter walked away an sold his shares. In the Halloween movie franchise one man got all of the rights. To the Halloween movie franchise so he had ultimate say an final word. He unfortunately only care about one thing Michael Myers must. Live at the end of the movie to be in the next movie. The writer and director literally could do anything they wanted. Even if it made zero sense whatsoever like stuff in Halloween 5. That director literally put random things in because he thought it would be cool. Then he left it up to the next person to explain everything. But it did not matter because Michael Myers lived at the end of it. I mean he would literally added things last minute. Because he went this would be cool even thow it was not in the movies script. This is why there is multiple timelines because one. Director wood add things then another one would remove things. But it did not matter to the guy who owned the rights to Halloween. As long as he could have Michael Myers for another movie. If they killed him off they would just retcon it in the next movie. He did not care about directors and writers original Visions for movies.
I don’t know if you ever watched The Last Drive In on Shudder?! The host of the show Joe Bob Briggs, pointed out that H4 is a neo western. With the vigilante mob fighting back after the town lawmen are wiped out. Michael wore a different mask in the school scene. Mainly due to either the actor or costume team misplacing the mask for most of the scene; so Michael was wearing the mask that he was originally supposed to wear in this film. You could see it very briefly, when Michael tosses Dr Loomis through a window. Regardless either mask in this sequel, is my least favorite mask for the series. I dislike how the poster for this sequel teases the original Captain Kirk mask. I can just imagine what the franchise had been like if either Christopher Lee or Peter Cushing had accepted the role of Dr Loomis. Both regretted not taking the role after the original film’s success. Yet they will always be remembered for their roles in both Hammer Dracula films and Star Wars. Btw Happy birthday and feel better soon
Michael got strong hands in this one. Rachel such a badas. Kelly was hot but I'd have stuck with Rachel. More of a long term thing lol. And she's a badas lol. Or the beginning of the first one lol. Jaime looks so.crazy lol.
The movie is the same story but there are some scenes that are different and the ending itself is entirely different it was also the original it is better than the theatrical cut it is the one with the resorts and the flashing lights and the editing is just a mess so yeah it is not a good movie but I like as guilty pleasure and I like it better than 5 so yeah that is it I hope you get feeling better.
Stinker? Hell I always heard that this one was well regarded. I know I think it's a good movie. 5 and 6 are the stinkers. But hey...I'd rather you be honest in your opinions. I do respect that eventhough we disagree on this one.
This movie is actually a fan favorite. It's Halloween 5 that is wildly disliked because of the direction they go. To say the least the next one is very rushed.
You can see a lot more of Kathleen Kinmont in a movie that came out the year after this one, that being Rush Week, which I think I probably find to be a better slasher movie than Halloween 4, if you can get past all the male buttocks that are shown in it.
I really love this movie I mean I respect your opinion but it is nowhere near as much of a stinker as Halloween 5 is. As a matter of a fact Halloween five is even worse. But Halloween four had more going for it, I mean you gotta appreciate the atmosphere that the movie creates especially the opening scene it really puts you in the mood for the Halloween season. Plus the plot is better the story is darker the acting is really good and the suspense is really good and Donald Pleasence was great as always as Dr. Loomis. I know that Michael looks a little off especially the mask but I like that I like that the mask looks different and honestly the mask doesn’t bother me as much as the mask will probably bother you in Halloween 5. Because the mask and Halloween five is beyond terrible you’re just gonna have to watch and see. And not only that but the movie ended perfectly Michael died and then the unstoppable evil that was inside of him got passed on to Jamie. And instead of running with the idea of making Jamie the new killer in Halloween five they just bring back Michael and have a bullshit explanation on why he still alive. Or they could not have made a sequel and just left it at that. So basically Halloween 2, 3 and 4 are my favorite movies in the original series everything else that came after Halloween 4 sucked.
Halloween 5 suffered from being rushed into production and having a French director whose aesthetic was completely different from the previous entries. I still think 5 is watchable, has good performances from Pleasance and young Danielle Harris, and I love the opening credit sequence. Halloween 6 suffered from massive interference and too many hands in the cookie jar, but I did like how they tried to explain the source of Michael Myers supernatural powers and his motivations. Halloween H20 was just a cash in on the post-Scream horror boom, and the less said about Resurrection the better. Maybe I'm bias because I grew up with these films. Then again, I do love Halloween 2018 and Halloween Kills. 🤷♂️
Not gonna lie Halloween 4 is the last decent movie in the original timeline H5 & 6 are just terrible ironically 6 is way better to watch for the atmosphere and the kills are good but the overarching Thorn cult storyline is sooooo bad I actually think Halloween Resurrection is better than Halloween 5 is it's that horrible However This film accomplished it's goal of bringing back Michael Myers while making a good amount at the box office -for an independent film Studio really just wish we didn't get years and years of shitty Halloween Sequels after this movie
This was one of the best sequels.

Yeah I just dress up like Michael Myers and walk round that costume really scares people
I don't understand why so many people hated Halloween 4,5, and 6. I loved all of them. I just like the Jamie story and how it continues into 5 and 6. If you remember the kid Tommy from the first one he is in 6. I think they should have stopped after 6. Everything after that sucked and the new Halloween Kills looks pretty stupid.
Lolz H5 and H6 are such a shit show
4 is a solid follow-up and did its best to explain what happened after 2 in regard to Michael/Loomis.
I love the Friday the 13th video game even though I suck at it haha
This and H20 are my favorites.
Yeah I’m excited to get to H20 and have Jamie Lee Curtis back!
Totally disagree that it doesn't have that same "look." It's one of the few sequels that DO have that look. Same goes for the look of H6.
A stinker? Watch more of these and you’ll realize this is up there as one if the best
Sorry to hear you have covid. Hope you feel better.
Already feeling a lot better :)
Ok yes mixing universes I’m for it
i love this movie
The original is the best but this was pretty good for a sequel.
Yeah in halloween circles, this and part 2 before it are considered the best sequels.
The more I sit with it the more I liked it :)
.. you're actually the first person I heard that hates this.
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😉
15:17🤣
Never mind what comments say on RUclips tbh. The reason I watched this because it was completely different. Everyone has an opinion that is different.
I think the first 2 Halloween movies were great the 4th and 5th were very good, the 6th one that's when it started to go downhill the two more recent ones 2018 and 2021 were very as well just like 4 and 5.
Happy Birthday. Hope u feel better soon. Imo, the rest of these movies go downhill after this.
Haha yeah curious to see how it spirals
A very great movie I hope you get better in had Corona virus 2
Donald hated that Prosthetic on his face he thought it looked like a fried egg and got the effects team to change it but because they screwed up the editing some of the footage of the fried egg burn made it into the movie. And yeah Halloween 5 completely flushes the end of this one down the toilet. The Director of 5 had no idea what he was doing and the script kept getting rewrites while shooting so it was a total mess.
The blonde hair mask was a mistake. They didn't have the time or the budget to reshoot that scene with the right mask, so they just left it in the movie.
I feel so sorry that you are sick and had to watch this film :( get out while you can! It still doesn’t improve unfortunately lol.
I’ll be watching all of them in order :) so it’s coming!
Got it
Yeah it’s interesting how there are different timelines. Kind of like terminator or something.
Tbh I like the reboot Halloween movies.
No I haven’t seen the last drive in I’ll check it out!
Sydney Prescott!
Her uncle is Michael Myers
Michael got strong hands in this one. Rachel such a badas. Kelly was hot but I'd have stuck with Rachel. More of a long term thing lol. And she's a badas lol. Or the beginning of the first one lol. Jaime looks so.crazy lol.
You would think they could atleast keep his mask consistent but nope! Lol. They screw up the look of the Myers house too in the next 2 movies.
When you get to 6 watch the producer's cut.
Oooo, is there a huge difference?
I actually have a huge love and appreciation for the Jamie story line…especially now that I’ve been through the newer films.
This movie is actually a fan favorite. It's Halloween 5 that is wildly disliked because of the direction they go. To say the least the next one is very rushed.
I just remembered michael was all bandaged up. Maybe thats why he looks so bulky.
You can see a lot more of Kathleen Kinmont in a movie that came out the year after this one, that being Rush Week, which I think I probably find to be a better slasher movie than Halloween 4, if you can get past all the male buttocks that are shown in it.
You just went through your first unnecessary, lame Laurie Strode death
Enough to make anyone sick 🎃🦇
You look like Madonna
Woah I’ve never gotten that I’ll take it though!
The last good Halloween movie!
The more I’ve sat with 4 I actually did enjoy it. :)
Curious to see how the series spirals
You're too sweet, have a good night.
Stinker ?? This movie's a classic GTFO 🤣 jk
😂😅
Not gonna lie Halloween 4 is the last decent movie in the original timeline H5 & 6 are just terrible ironically 6 is way better to watch for the atmosphere and the kills are good but the overarching Thorn cult storyline is sooooo bad I actually think Halloween Resurrection is better than Halloween 5 is it's that horrible
However This film accomplished it's goal of bringing back Michael Myers while making a good amount at the box office -for an independent film Studio really just wish we didn't get years and years of shitty Halloween Sequels after this movie
