It's a world that feels both lived in and undiscovered just like our own world. Gon and killua not caring for anything outside their mission of finding ging makes perfect sense as most people won't stop to see the world's largest yarn when you are late to work or need to get home. That's what makes hxh special. It's the only story I can say that a mangaka not talking about a plot point they made last minute and drop make sense
It's like a massive multiplayer online role playing game, with lots of characters with their own mission, or goals that are intertwined together depending on the arcs. Even if there's a main character, other characters have their own stories too even the villains.
Hello joekarta!! Big fan! I just wanted to say thank you so much! I asked my crush out at school and I used a line from your video!! Couldn’t have done it without you!!
Yeah i like that characters dont just stick around cause they are buddies its just good world building. Reminds me of how people complain about how kuwabara isnt in the last arc of yuyuhakusho but like why on earth would he get involved in a demon vs demon vs demon war? If hxh could go on forever i would hope that killua and gon would have to face the threat of the few thousand new chimera ants still in the human realm and gyro while everyone else is on the black whale
1:20 Greed Island can only be visited by Hunters is a misconception. It can only be visited by nen users who also have a memory card and a ring, without which you can't play the game. There are hunters who can't use nen. Among those who are called hunters in this universe, only pro hunters are able to use nen. Great job on the video essay altogether.
I just can't agree - both the writing and worldbuilding of HxH had interesting ideas, but never once did they feel cohesive or immersive to me. I constantly had the feeling that I wanted to be brought deeper into the world, hoping that the story pieces would eventually come together and I'd "get it" and fall in love with the series: but it never happened. All of the characters felt like they were kept at arms-length; all of the plot points felt meandering and not really planned out; the world was primarily teased or explained in bland exposition rather than actually explored or shown in any depth. I honestly don't understand why people talk about it as if it's an unparalleled masterpiece or something - it was fine, I didn't dislike it while experiencing it or anything, and obviously different people have different tastes, but I just can't agree with the idea that its "seamless". It felt like a patchwork of ideas more than a cohesive story.
