Dahshur | Egypt's Other Great Pyramids

  • Almost everyone who visits Egypt goes to the ancient pyramid complex at Giza to inspect the Great Pyramid and its neighboring rivals, but very few venture to explore the equally impressive and far more secretive pyramids at Dahshur, located less than fifteen miles to the south.
Unlike Giza, which sits alongside Cairo, one of the most populous cities in the world, Dahshur is situated beyond the immediate range of any large gatherings of people. Here can be found ancient Egypt's first true pyramid, the Red Pyramid, and its predecessor, the Bent Pyramid. Dahshur is older and more mysterious than Giza, with few tourists, no sellers of souvenirs or impromptu guided tours, and no camel rides. On certain days at certain times of the year the vast necropolis of Dahshur can be almost completely devoid of human activity, a wind-swept desert plain just beyond the greenery of the Nile. In the shadow of the Bent Pyramid and Red Pyramid, within the quiet solitude of their corridors and chambers, among the ruins of their adjacent temples, can be heard only the echoes of the distant past.
    This was one such day.
    Viewing notes:
Whenever feasible, the informative titles have been placed against darker, more uniform backgrounds, but under very bright lighting conditions or when using a low-contrast display, some viewers may prefer to activate closed captioning. Identical titles in the form of closed captions provide a larger typeface with a uniformly dark background (at least this is the default RUclips player closed caption setting). Activating closed captions will somewhat detract from the overall visual experience, but because enhanced legibility may in some instances be desired, this option has been provided.

Awesome video. I don't understand why doesn't have more views. We will be off to Egypt tomorrow and will spend a whole day in Dashur. We will also film it.🙂

Enjoyed this very much. Really gave a lot of detail and perspective. Loved the music. But wish there had been a lot more about the "Black" Pyramid.

What was so interesting is that NO ONE was at the site ( Red or Bent Pyramids). It is so beautiful and fun to explore. There was one guard and no people. I wish more people could check it out. FYI is is a narrow passage in some places. If you are even remotely claustrophobic it is better viewed from outside.

Spectacular documentary. One of the best I’ve watched in the last 3 years.
    What camera did you use?
I would have prefer a different kind of music that doesn’t interfere with the viewing. In my opinion, the music would be more appropriate for a horror movie.

Nice video…but the background music is horrible….it doesn’t match the video at all…more like a horror movie ending credits scene.
