View from a Villa | Luxor, Egypt
Luxor, Egypt was once ancient Thebes, the seat of pharaonic power during the majority of Middle and New Kingdom dynasties. It is the site of many of dynastic Egypt’s most impressive monuments.
On Luxor’s east bank are Karnak and Luxor temples, along with most of the modern city’s population and larger buildings. On the west bank can be found the tombs, temples, and monuments of the Theban necropolis-the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens, the Tombs of the Nobles, Deir el-Bahri, the Colossi of Memnon, and many others.
The west bank of Luxor is less populated and is comprised mainly of agricultural land, the ruins of ancient dynastic sites, and smaller residential structures. Large...

In a remote corner of the Valley of the Monkeys-the West Valley in the Valley of the Kings-can be found mysterious KV23, the tomb of the pharaoh Ay, successor to Tutankhamun. Constructed over three thousand years ago, its chambers are hidden far beneath the Theban hills, connected to the surface by a long passageway cut through solid rock. In the burial chamber can be found Ay’s granite sarcoph...
Edge of Cairo | Driving the Outskirts of Egypt’s Megacity
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.2 года назад
Not everything worth exploring in Egypt is ancient. The city of Cairo is one example. Though this enormous sprawling metropolis is situated along a stretch of the Nile where large structures have been built since antiquity, and ancient stone blocks from the pyramids and other nearby pharaonic monuments were put to use building its medieval quarters, greater Cairo is for the most part a modern c...
Expedition to Abydos | Egypt’s Past and Present

Exploring it requires a journey by road, first across desert, then through towns and villages overflowing with the activity...
Strabo’s Well | The Secret of the Osireion Trailer
Просмотров 8742 года назад
Behind the temple of Seti I in Abydos, Egypt is the Osireion, a mysterious subterranean ruin with a seemingly limitless supply of water. From the time of its discovery in 1902, it was clear this was the underground structure described by the ancient Greek historian Strabo. Strabo visited Abydos around 27 BC and descended into the Osireion. Prior to its unearthing in 1902 it had been commonly re...

What was so interesting is that NO ONE was at the site ( Red or Bent Pyramids). It is so beautiful and fun to explore. There was one guard and no people. I wish more people could check it out. FYI is is a narrow passage in some places. If you are even remotely claustrophobic it is better viewed from outside.

How was 8 million tons calculated? 8 million tons quarried would be 16 million tons moved after structure completion. Any evidence that much stone was skidded on wood? Did anyone calculate how many trees and rope fiber would have been needed? Did you find evidence of logging and manufacturing that much lumber? Construction yards for the sledges and barges? If they used wood it would be rollers, not sledges but I doubt there were that many trees or rope fiber on the entire continent for that project let alone many millions of tons of stones moved on the other sites. Should have focused on the tool marks.

The Osirion is much, MUCH older than the Seti Temple; when the Seti Temple was built, they found it buried under the sand and had to change the orientation of the Temple to account for it. There are plans to clear the mud and debris out of the Osirion's water and explore down by diving or trying to pump out the water. They've already tried to pump out the water, the spring feeding it is too robust. There are 'niches' or small rooms on the outside of the Osirion complex, each was a room dedicated to a different god. There would have been statues in them that are now long gone. The water depths (very deep) should be explored to look for those statues, in case they were thrown in there by vandals. The water in the Osirion was said to have magical healing properties - read the different Omm Seti books for information about this. All very fascinating.

Very nice production quality and enjoyed watching it. Having made this trip from Luxor myself it does capture the interesting journey and the mystique of SETI’s temple, in my view the absolute best in Egypt. To understand the reliefs, try reading “Guide to Religious Rituals at Abydos” by Professor Rosalie David.

Clamping the Osirion was constructed in an old style seems convenient for those that have no answers the markings were just as likely added later and it likeness to that of the valley temple is unmistakable in its monumental size construction ! Egyptology makes guesses and then calls them conclusions Osiris was buried in abydos and it I think is his temple that's MY guess and it's OLD !!
