  • Drone fishing and beach fishing make a great pair. Or do they? Beach fishing with a drone could end in CHAOS. Either way drone fishing is becoming very popular lately. We are testing out the DJI Phantom for drone fishing at a local beach in Jacksonville, Florida. We are using dropping out Senko Skipper Squidy Bits to hungry fish and seeing what we catch!

    I don’t see the need to go that high if the goal is to get the line out as far as possible. It seams like your loosing distance by going so high. I think to improve battery time it would be best to fly 20 feet and go out as fast as possible then close the drum with 20 yards left it should then release as soon as it locks and return home all in under 2 minutes. It can be a one man operation

Ticket into the contest would be to purchase one bag lol

  • @daviddutra7815
    @daviddutra7815 5 лет назад +2

    It’s better to leave the bail closed, but the drag really loose. Because if the bail accidentally closes your drone goes down, if the line is leaving the spool really fast and tangles on one the the guides your drone goes for a swim (happened to me). Look into getting a Gannet Bait Release system, definitely worth it. And in case you drone goes down (let’s hope it never happens) and you recover it, remove the battery immediately, open the drone, rinse with fresh water then alcohol and leave covered with rise for 5 days.

    • @bushmanphotos
      @bushmanphotos Год назад +1

      we always leave bail open... if you're worried just leave the drag loose so if it does "accidentally" flip it makes no difference. The less drag on the line the better when the drone flies out especially with max payload shark baits.

    Word of advice - with long surf rods like those you should use a 'bucket' (waist mounted rod holder) so that you can effectively utilize the flex of the rod, especially when you catch a huge fish.

      nah we use drones with 16ft rods to catch sharks off the beach and just dig the butt into the sand as we fight or use it in the holder... a bucket would kill your back hauling in from 500 metres out all day long. Bucket is mostly useful only at the end of the fight when you might have to follow the fish down the beach but we still don't bother.

    Bad wind can definitely blow that long down rig line into your prop, and if that clip happens to not let go could put the drone in a whole mess of trouble. Just my opinion. I think you can definitely go with a much safer alternative. Great video

    • @susanledet9947
      @susanledet9947 2 года назад +1

      the longer the line is the less possibility there is of the line getting tangled in the props. but I also agree there are better alternatives than the clip.

    • @bushmanphotos
      @bushmanphotos Год назад

      the wind isn't the issue when you have a sinker... it's the sudden stop at the end that sends the line swinging into the props but it's not an issue with a long trace. You are right that is a pain when the release doesn't work but I've done hundreds of drone fishing flights by myself and handled it. The trick is to fly the drone along the beach then bring it in and let it hover or land it while you walk towards it reeling in all the slack... line weight in the current pulling the drone down is a thing in this scenario.

    New Master plan. Larger drone that can float that is water proof. Dead center is a attachment point on the drone with a spring action that when pulled down knows the fish is biting. This can be programmed in the drone to then spin up the fans and take off. Otherwise it sits and waits for a fish or from a command from the remote. This can be automated so to make this work you tie your line to the attachment point and your weight and hook and decide how long to cut your fishing line and this should work for the smaller fish in a lake. Tension tells the drone software a fish is biting. think anything you pull and springs or slides back. You have used items like these all your lives so they can be small light and work.

    • @thebudman4203
      @thebudman4203 Год назад

      Fish just pulls on an attachment on the drone that the drone knows is displaced or that there is tension. simple. Now the drone knows to start the engine and fly upward and then toward the operator. you could also just send an alert and the pilot does it. Either way you can decide to lift off and land in a different spot.

    • @thebudman4203
      @thebudman4203 Год назад

      Pull rod in the center of a drone that is strong enough to lift a man and floating feet. Not the pull rod the drone can lift a man. Maybe like a pontoon boat. I would make the feet go all the way around the outside. The drone will just drift until the rod is pulled and will only pull so far and your line is attached to the pull rod. So the drone will float and drift and bang fly up once you get a strong enough bite then you can use binoculars or a underside camera lens to see if you need to re-bait. We can always recommend a max test line so the line breaks before the lift capacity is reached. The fish is going to try to fight so i think a 4 foot line and weight and a hook should do but really you could go deeper but the drone has to fly higher to get the fish out of the water. The drone has to be able to float good so we will lose a bit of drone power to weight. Sport mode only sends you a bite alert and you have to decide when to lift off and auto mode for when you are lazy.

    You need a Daiwa df100. I have one and it holds 1800m+ of 50lb braid line. Great for shore fishing. Just wish I had a drone to get way out there...

    In my opinion droning for these smaller fish is a waste of time. Here in South Africa we mostly use drones for sharks

    • @tonykomer2997
      @tonykomer2997 3 года назад

      Agree 110%. Most of what they fish for is bait size. The ideal drone use is tacking large bait past all breakers right where the large sharks cruise inline with coast. Not to mention if you need more than yourself to fish from shore you are doing something very wrong.
      Not to mention this is this guy's FIRST drone period and he is making a video giving advice!?! He does this a lot. Does something once then feels he can advice others how to do it. Talk about an ego. The guy does not even know how to tie his line to the spool in the video. How can a drone pull the line off the spool unless it was a terrible knot or none at all. Do not forget this was his rod reel not the kid holding it. Based on that it's a really good thing he fishes for minnows and not sharks.

    Drones are not allowed in any Delaware Seashore park or any national park, which includes national seashores. If you are using your drone in any way to make money (including a RUclips video), you NEED to have a part 107 certification.

    Some public lakes I fish have lots of trees over hanging the water making long casts impossible. Drones may be a solution and put me into spots that aren't heavily fished.

  • @richardroyrasmussen7867

    You should invest in a bait release clip mechanism for your drone.
