Sony RDR VX530 DVD/VCR Combo with a broken gear Part 2 the FINAL repair!

- This is part 2 of the Sony (made by Samsung) RDR-VX530 DVD/VCR Combo. In part 1 I found a broken gear and could not find a replacement gear from Sony or Samsung. I did find a complete replacement mechanism on eBay. After VCR mechanism replacement and a worn DVD tray belt it works great again.

Love it. My favorite part? Guilty pleasure - Biden words! I almost choked on my morning coffee!! 😂 You were very patient with this unit. You helped me recall several things about recording DVDs that I had forgotten. Not much opportunity for that anymore, LOL.
Well done! I've never been particularly fond of this Sony/Samsung chassis. I've owned 4 or so over the last decade, and each one experienced similar issues. They'd work for hours on end then suddenly eat the tape, they'd suddenly spaz out and go into a random mode despite a mode switch cleaning, refuse to go into full speed rewind on certain tapes, etc. Plus the mechanism that loads and ejects the cassette always seemed cheap to me. My VCR of choice has to be the Sony SLV-N71 and others with the same bulletproof mechanism. I've still got the one from my childhood that still works like new.
For those playing along: this is Samsung's TS-10 mechanism, a cheapened version of their previous ones (e.g. DX-9R). The part that broke is called the "gear worm wheel" and it definitely looks like they deliberately weakened it to fail, given how they've made the rest of the mechanism very reliable by having very few parts (and even the main slide cam is metal!)
Great attention to detail. For the typical DIY viewer that makes all the difference. The Biden words insert was worth the price of admission.
"Did anyone use firewire ever"
I did last year! I digitized all of our MiniDV videos with my camera through firewire to my Windows XP computer :D It has so old Pinnacle studio installed that supports importing straight from the camera via firewire.
You Sir, may be the only one that uses firewire, and VWestlife too.

There were a few hoops to jump through this time, there is always a Got ya ! .
Usually when all the screws are back in the unit, That's the time the unit throws a wobbler lol.
Ive had my share of pulling my hair out in frustration, im so happy when the unit is gone !.
Great repair video! I am surprised that you were able to record the movie to dvd without problem. I know they used macrovision so that you couldn't archive movies to dvd. I do remember the movie. It came out eons ago. It starred Michael Keaton if I remember.
It was released in 1986 I think. Saw it in the theatre when it was new. It does have Michael Keaton in a early role.
Does anyone know why the line out would not work? The component video and audio out work, but the line out pops up for a second and goes black. Can you change in settings with remote?
