Sylvania DVR90VF DVD-VCR Combo Eats Tapes Repair. PS Cap Replacement DVD Optical Pickup Cleaning too

This is a Sylvania DVD-VCR Combo made in 2005 that is eating tapes. All it needed was a mode select switch cleaning which I show you how to do with some simple tools and chemicals I did replace the problematic 4700uf 6.3 volt capacitor in the power supply too. I also Cleaned the DVD Optical Pickup. I tested the VHS to DVD recording also. Works great now. Thank You for watching!

Thank you I have a dvd vcr sylvania player that failed --no power) with a dvd (from our library) that is stuck in the the dvd. Look at and ready to break the dvd to get the disk out. No local help--hate to destroy the unit. How do I get the disk out?

Nice video - I will say - Windex and generics contain ammonia (ammonium hydroxide) - so appears you are using ammonia on the optical pickup unless I'm missing something?

All other capacitors in the power supply are low quality, so why are you only replacing the 4700 microfarad one?

There is no need to bulk re-cap a power supply if -
A) everything else is OK after changing one or two caps;
B) the customer didn't ask for it and/or agree to the cost of it being done.

Rarely do I see any other caps fail. It is normally the 4700uf cap that fails. I normally replace it as a preventive measure any more.

@@norcal715 I agree the 4700µF cap tends to be a problem child in many power supplies - so replacing it, even if the original tests OK, is a great precautionary tactic in reducing recalls for that reason later. 😎 Better to be safe now, than sorry later.

Yeah, on my Toshiba DVR670KU, I've replaced every Su'scon cap (except for the filter capacitor) with higher quality and/or Japanese caps.
