Do you sell the products with the fairy instructions. Or do you have a link?
Hi Kaylee! Thank you for asking :) Yes, I sell on Etsy and here's the link to the listing. wisteriasuriranch.etsy.com/listing/1353708164/felted-fairy-tutorial-needle-felting?Copy&ListingManager&Share&.lmsm&share_time=1691769262552
Is it best to use a long fiber for the whole thing rather than short core wool?
Yes, it's easier to use the longer merino roving but you can use short core wool, too. You will end up with a slightly different look and you may also need to prefelt the shorter core wool by poking the fibers flatter (or using your hands like I do for other little pieces in the tutorial) before using to make it a little more manageable. The benefit of using merino roving as shown in the tutorial is that it will have a smoother nicer look to it. I think it just looks a bit more elegant because merino wool roving is usually a much finer wool vs the core wool which is generally coarser. Hope that makes sense ;)
As I am watching I think using alpaca wool would be best, would you agree?
You can definitely use alpaca wool for this project- maybe better on the outer skirt only to save on cost ;) Part of the challenge is in finding the easiest fiber form to use for various different projects. Most of my own alpaca fibers are processed in custom mills and I usually get pencil roving. This would be really hard to work with for this particular project. If I were to hand process and card it on my home drum carder, then I could get it to the right size much more easily...but that requires me to do the drum carding which is very time consuming. The merino rovings are generally already sold like this as shown in the video- so especially for beginners, this makes it much easier and faster to creation. I love using Suri alpaca locks for hair because it already looks like the most perfect doll hair! Thank you for asking great questions! Let me know if you have more. Have a magical day!
Do you felt the head firm?
Hi there, thank you for all your amazing questions! I don't felt the head too firm because I will need to add the hair later, so maybe medium when I first make the head and as I work with the fairy, her head will get a little firmer as I add her face fiber and hair.
Where can different size guides be purchased?
Hi Gisele, thank you for asking. There's only one size guide for now at my Etsy shop, but you can scale that to make different sizes if you'd like (make a copy at reduced size, etc.) Here's the Etsy link for the fairy tutorial. Como traduzir o vídeo para português ❤
Hello! Thank you for watching. I don't know Portuguese. I wish I did!!! I send you so much love and magic from Texas.
Could you use merino
Yes, definitely! I use merino roving in this tutorial :) You can be super flexible though and play with various wool because you will get a different look with the different materials. Just experiment and have fun ;)
So KS this also called roving ?
Hi! Thank you for your question. Yes, I use roving for the fairies. There are different kinds of roving- the super fine strip like ones are usually called pencil roving. The suri alpaca one I use for the face, arms, and legs are usually the pencil roving just because that's how the custom mill made it for me. Most rovings are usually wider/thicker like the one you see in the pink wool roving in the video. What makes the roving different from a batt is- roving looks more like a rope (and usually used in spinning, also additional step to make it more like a rope from batt form). Wool batts are usually taken right off the drum carder (fiber processing machine) in sheets. Most batts are used in stuffing, wet, or needle felting. Hope this helps and makes sense :) Have a wonderful day!
