      Awww, thank you!!! He's doing soooo amazing- and we are thrilled he is happy, gets along with his herdmates (we got him a friend near his age named Kyler when he was growing up - you'll see Kyler in my skittish alpaca training videos ;) He still responds to his name and is very friendly with us- but completely understands his boundaries and is respectful. So grateful he has no benavioral issues which can happen with bottle fed babies. He thinks he's super special which he is- so he's confident, sweet, and happy. Yay!!!! Thank you for your lovely comment. I appreciate you ;) Hugs hugs

    How do you clean your white fiber after shearing. Try as i may, i can not get white Alpaca fiber clean. It looks like i have washed it in mud. I have followed all the advice , but to no avail

    • @WisteriaSuriRanch
      @WisteriaSuriRanch Месяц назад

      Hi :) White fiber is harder to wash for sure! So I usually soak white fiber in a 5 gallon bucket with warm water and dish soap. The dish soap allows a bit more to come out. I gently open up the fibers and press a bit- too much and you get a tangled felted mess... so quite carefully. Once the first soak is done, I pull the fiber out as I squeeze all water out. The water will be pretty dirty. I dump the water out and refill with clean warm water, then put the fleece back and and gently press and squeeze to get the dirt out. I repeat this process maybe 4-5 times depending on the fleece. Sometimes that's still not enough and I have to soak in warm water with soap overnight and restart the process. I keep doing until the water runs clear at which point, if all the fleeces are open enough- it should be clean. But I will still find a lock that has trapped some dirt! Hope this helps. Try it with maybe an ounce of fleece to check out the process. I can usually get really small amounts to come out super clean and white...but when I try to wash a few pounds at a time... oh my! It's not easy. Have an amazing day!!!

    Hiii! What can I do if I don’t have a microwave? Thank you for the great tutorial!

    • @WisteriaSuriRanch
      @WisteriaSuriRanch Месяц назад

      Hi! Totally hear you!!! I actually don't use the microwave for cooking and it's not even in my kitchen!!! I bought the cheapest one I could find and since I dye often enough, I use it exclusively for dyeing wool, yarn, locks. It's not even plugged in when not in use. I think there are a few other ways I have seen others set the dye but it requires heat of some sort... so it's rather cumbersome. I think you can steam it in a pot on top steamer and I think some use the crock pot. You'll want to see what you can find on YT since I saw it once and said..."that's too much for me!" These days, I bet there are freebie microwaves around if you ask. My first one didn't quite work right but I could manually start and then turn it off with my own timer. Hope this helps! Hugs hugs and have a wonderful day!!! Thank you for watching!

      I'm on a farm and there's usually chickens and guinea fowls strutting around making a lot of noise. The "pu-rock, pu-rock" sound is a female guinea hen. They are the coolest birds but they are quite loud. They are known to be good birds to alert to something and seem to love their voice! They are great to keep snakes away. I have seen them surround coyotes make a ton of noise. I do hear hens mixed in but mostly, it's the female guinea hen that must have been right under my window! The hens love to announce they laid their eggs and make a huge fuss about that- rightfully so I guess. lol Have a great day!

    My sister raises alpaca, she hires a shearer twice a year, it’s a big deal and requires a lot of people on hand. Any advice to start shearing them on our own? Love your videos! Thank you for sharing, it’s greatly appreciated!!!

    • @WisteriaSuriRanch
      @WisteriaSuriRanch 8 месяцев назад

      Hello! So happy you asked! I was sooooo totally stressed out with shearing every year when I was hiring professionals to come do them. The pros are amazing at what they do, but my animals are used to my super gentle ways and they were so upset. I would be a frazzled mess along with the alpacas! So at first, my husband and I took shearing lessons from different instructors. We did it the regular way with tie downs and just going slower and talking to them. This was reallly hard, too. So we got the rotating table and that was a bit better, but that process required a minimum of 3 adults. I was too stressed to use the electric shearers and would be soooo exhausted afterwards because I didn't want to injure them. I did get pretty good but I was like "there's gotta be an easier way!!!!" One spring, my hubby happened to be out of town and on a bit of a whim, I was playing with my super calm relaxed alpaca that let's me do pretty much anything. She's my girl and trusts me. I asked her if I could try hand shearing her, and she just stood there loving the attention!!! I gave her treats and just started shearing away!!! I couldn't believe it- it was FUN! And no one was stressed. So...I decided to try other volunteers and let a few more in to the management area and gave treats and attempted. Some were willing for 10 minutes, others were like "no way!" . That year, I did a few hand shearings and the rest were done with the rotating table. Every year, I'd give everyone multiple opportunities to get shorn with treats standing and over time, they just realized that was easier for them, too. For the first time this year, I couldn't believe how cooperative they were!!! All were amazing and I had the best experience of my life!!!! BUT- I didn't get to this point overnight...it was years of patience and more patience and more patience and developing trust with them. One thing that you can always do is to train them before shearing season. I always like to use a 10x10 feet pen, give them treats and allow them to move away from me if they want, but I touch their back and start desensitizing them. Just a little, every day- and before you know it, they just keep eating and don't care if you are fussing with their fleece. I have quite a few videos on shearing- I think I have a good 20 minute one with Tiffany that shows my process of the shearing itself. More importantly though- is how you train your babies and all alpacas on a daily basis. Hope this helps and please feel free to ask more questions any time or reach out to me through my website and I can give you more info any time!!! Have a wonderful week!!! Thanks for watching :)

    So KS this also called roving ?

    • @WisteriaSuriRanch
      @WisteriaSuriRanch 11 месяцев назад

      Hi! Thank you for your question. Yes, I use roving for the fairies. There are different kinds of roving- the super fine strip like ones are usually called pencil roving. The suri alpaca one I use for the face, arms, and legs are usually the pencil roving just because that's how the custom mill made it for me. Most rovings are usually wider/thicker like the one you see in the pink wool roving in the video. What makes the roving different from a batt is- roving looks more like a rope (and usually used in spinning, also additional step to make it more like a rope from batt form). Wool batts are usually taken right off the drum carder (fiber processing machine) in sheets. Most batts are used in stuffing, wet, or needle felting. Hope this helps and makes sense :) Have a wonderful day!

    Looks like great project but couldn’t finish video the woman laughs too much and is unorganized

      Hey Sandra, Thanks for taking the time to comment. Pattern is free and will give you plenty of info to make it without watching the video. You can also mute and watch at 2x speed to get the gist. I actually have to agree with you that this is my lesser organized tutorial- I usually put in 20+ hours of just prep by working out each step but it's been a crazy summer and even to get to this point, it took me about 10 hours between prep, recording, and my little editing I could do. The project was a bit more complex as well for me. I do this for enjoyment and to share fun projects with my friends and fellow felters :)

    Very nice! An overhead camera would solve the angle problem.

      Thanks Martha! Wow, that would be awesome!!! An overhead camera- I'll have to look into that...or maybe I can just move the camera behind me for certain parts... I'll try and see if I can improve that issue. Thank you for the great suggestion! Have a wonderful day- I appreciate you!

    Hi, love your tutorial. Could you do more tutorial on other small breeds

    • @WisteriaSuriRanch

      Thank you! What small breeds would you like me to try? Did you want it in this sleeping style or different poses? I have a free mini poodle one that has free downloadable pattern so far. I absolutely love dogs so would be happy to try more dogs. I am working on a reindeer request right now, so once that is done real soon- I will try more dogs. Thank you for the great suggestion!
