Suri Alpaca Baby Priscilla Finally Born!

Our sweet baby alpaca was very overdue and I was a little worried. We wrote down the dates and she was at 377 days. Kiara the mom looked really big and uncomfortable as you can imagine. Kiara generally has smaller babies in the 13-15lb range, maybe smaller...but this big girl was 19.5lbs. We are very careful not to use herdsires who have tendencies to produce big babies- but we feel this baby was just very overdue. We've had this match up twice before and both were little babies, maybe 12-13lbs. We are not sure if the gestation was longer due to our very rare freeze we had earlier this year in Texas. I'd be curious to hear any other alpaca folks who might have had longer than usual gestations. In the 12 years we've raised alpacas, we have had maybe one or two girls go a few days over 365 days- but nothing like this. We are so relieved mom and baby are both fine and doing well :)
