    • @DeliriousMonster
      @DeliriousMonster 2 года назад +1

      @@lynnmuncy81 the reason Jef Rue asked this question is because this particular kit removes (rather than disabling) the EGR valve assembly, which in the case of the ALH motor, has an ASV (anti-shudder valve) attached. In short, when the key is turned to the off position a solenoid opens, allowing vacuum from the engine to close the valve, in turn completely stopping the motor from receiving air. You can actually stall the engine by manually pushing the valve closed

    Pretty sure if you know how to drive a car with an ALH you won't have issues with the intake getting coked up . Don't put around shifting at 2k rpm ( lugging) . You've got to bang on them . Take the long way home hit the highway or the long straight and beat em up. They can handle it

      Is this true? I'm new to diesel vehicles, got a 2000 F350 dually diesel and 2000 VW Golf 1.9 TDI about 3 or 4 years ago.
      I hardly drive the dually so it sits for long periods. And the TDI is the daily, but has become gutless and smokes. They both have lots of miles, 400,000 on F350 and over 300,000 on TDI. I baby them both when I'm driving, meaning I'm really easy and smooth on acceleration, because of the high miles and my uncertainty with diesel engines. Plus I suspect my TDI had the auto transmission replaced before I got it with one meant for a gas vehicle. Haven't proved this theory, but I understand its common for these transmissions to need replacement and some people don't replace with one meant for diesel and that could throw off shifting ratios of some sort. Since I'm not an expert I have no idea if this is true or if im even explaning it right, but a mechanic by trade friend told me that could account for the weird way it shifts.
      My understanding was they're not hotrods, so you don't step on it with them. Although my Dad was a professional mechanic on both gas and diesel and I recall when I had my gas vehicles he told me to take them out on the open road occasionally to "gun it" and get to high speed faster to "burn off the build up", I suppose that's help keep things cleaner.
      Sadly he passed away unexpectedly shortly before I got these vehicles and I haven't been able to find a mechanic I trust since then.
      Any helpful advice would be great!

      @@spicyphilly take the intercooler piping off of the EGR valve and have a look inside . I would bet it is almost compleatly coked up . I have a 2000 ALH TDI that I got for $500 because the previous owner thought it was destroyed with only 200k miles on the engine . It was in bad shape . It needed a new turbo ( locked up vanes) and compleatly sooted up intake from babying the car trying to get the good fuel mileage . I cleaned the manifold , new EGR valve and turbo and it runs like a champ .
      Yes the auto transmissions for the tdi of that year were not good ( I have read that more than once) , I am not familiar with automatic transmissions so I can't speak on issues with running a gasser transmission a TDI .
      I bet if you clean the intake manifold you'll get your power back .
      Good luck

      @@sunoclockoneday2576 wow thank you so much for the quick response! I wasn't expecting anything today let alone ever lol.
      You're absolutely right. My neighbor had the EGR off 2 weeks ago for repair to something else and showed me how "coked up" (new term for me lol) it is.
      I believe he cleaned it, but obviously it didn't stay tnat way. I just ordered a kit to delete the EGR altogether.
      I noticed you referenced "if you know how to drive 'ALH'" in particular. I don't know what that means? Is there something special about them I should know about to avoid this? And will deleting the EGR make ALH a non issue, or have any negative affects I'm not aware of? Sorry for my ignorance if ALH is totally unrelated to EGR.
      I'm curious if I can continue to baby it after EGR delete, or I should should go back to my old practice my Dad taught me of "riding her hard" to burn off the gunk. I used to train horses for a living and I know every now and then I'd have to run em hard and bring em home sweaty to keep em tuned 😉

    • @spicyphilly
      @spicyphilly Год назад +2

      I get what ALH is now. I found a TDI forum that explained it's an engine series.
      I'm still curious if opening it up like suggested would still be beneficial after the EGR delete and if this delete "procedure" has any negative affects 🤔
      I'm also a little annoyed no one that's worked on this car nor any mechanic friend that knows I've specifically said I baby them has told me I shouldn't and need to open em up just like the gas cars every now and then.
      Makes me miss my Dad even more. He was the shit and knew his shit...and yes I'm a Daddys girl 😁

    Completely deleting the EGR valve not a good idea... if you dont want it just block the exhaust pipe going to EGR... cause on the EGR valve there is a safety valve that closes when you turn off the ignition so blocks air into the intake, when your turbocharger fails and leaks oil into the intake and as we know, diesels can run on oil, especially hot "runny" oil, so the RPM then goes crazy and you cant stop the engine, cause its running on air and oil and it will die in matter of seconds/minutes... Also, the EGR valve doesnt result in much carbon buildup.. Carbon buildup only happens to people that dont care and are driving their TDI in city 50kmh on 4th gear 1200rpm and never actually drive more than 2-2-5k rpm, when you drive in higher RPMs and put actually a decent load to the engine, the EGR valve will completely CLOSE... I drive my 1.9tdi PD 96kw ASZ pretty normal, i dont care about consumpiton, just giving the car what is was build for and needs.. shifting at 3k rmp and when i wanna go accelerate hard 4K rpm, i recently changed the EGR because the valve was kinda broken, didnt move much and it leaked oil, i took a close look on the intake walls and there was literally just a thin layer of dust/carbon, nothing noticable

      These motors have a crank case vent that vents back into the intake. I drained a pint of oil from my intercooler. You need to learn more about these diesel motors so you get then to run efficiently.

    • @Matt_Pie
      @Matt_Pie  2 года назад +2

      Egr delete allows for better combustion of diesel, but the egr system commonly causes issues such as intense carbon build up and general failure of the system, so when it does fail many people typically just remove it
