    I got my GE Profile at the beginning of the week. $1998 from Home Depot and I love it. Been doing a little laundry every day to try different types of loads. Our old units were front loading 10 year old Samsung washer and dryer. We use a lot less power to wash and it does a better job of cleaning our clothes.

      GE claims you can dry clothes you'd normally hang dry in it, have you given it a try by any chance?

      Same! I dumped 6 year old Samsungs that I had stacked. Got mine two weeks ago and am loving it!

      @@hypersonichobo4263 I have, and their claims are correct. Since it's using a heat pump instead of a resistive element, the air is super-dry, and only gently warm. It doesn't get hot enough to shrink or damage fragile items. Also, if you wished, the machine will dry with zero heat, but that takes a lot of time. I've dried a wool pair of slacks and had no felting or pilling.

      @@migbham1 man I'm kinda scared to try that not gonna lie. I'll see if I can find something old lol to prove it. Kinda like when they say an inductive stove is cool and you can touch it. How wrinkly are your nicer clothes when they come out?

    • @migbham1
      @migbham1 Год назад +6

      @@hypersonichobo4263 Funny you'd mention the induction stove. 😊 I replaced my glass halogen range like a decade ago with an induction one, and I really can't imagine cooking on anything else. Instant heat, and instant cool when you lower the heat, and they really do remain cool enough to touch. When I fry bacon, I lay paper towels down between the glass top and the iron skillet.
      I've so far not pulled anything out of the unit that is wrinkled. They've all come out nice and fluffy and warm. The bonus is that because it uses very gentle heat, I get zero static cling.
      I'm not sure what your definition of nice clothes is, but for things like dress shirts, I normally take those to the cleaners so that they get pressed. I laundered a load of polo shirts shirts on Friday, and they came our with no wrinkles. My bedsheets are 1000 thread count supima cotton, and likewise, no wrinkles assuming I pull them out when they're done and don't let them sit.

    Its a really great concept. I bought one in September 2023 and it is amazing to start a load and wake up to dry clothes. I also love the energy saving aspects to reduce costs. Unfortunately 3 months after getting mine, it stopped heating and I am now entering my 4th month of it not working after 4 visits from techs that aren't familiar with the machine (and we live near Atlanta so you wouldn't think that would be an issue), waiting for weeks on backordered parts, and now they are saying I need to have the entire heat exchanger replaced. My wife is frustrated beyond belief and I wish I had never purchased this unit. All I get is the runaround and no resolution from anyone. This morning she indicated that it isn't even draining all the water and there isn't a way to run just a spin cycle like you can with other units to try and get it to re-spin the clothes dry so we can then move them into our old dryer to dry them like we have been doing for the past 4 months. I regrettably recommend you avoid this model.

    I agree with making sure to order your pedestal with the machine so the delivery people will install it for you. They will not do it unless they come together and they deliver both. Just make sure to watch them as both the pedestal and the machine will need to have the leveling feet/legs attached. Ours was installed without the feet on the bottom of the machine, and only on the pedestal. This caused the machine to shake violently. We had to have another set mailed out to us and then GE service came out and installed them. Just helping out others that may be purchading the pedestal. Other than that little mishap, I love my machine and it was worth every penny I spent on it.

    Hi, Matt. Great video. I have had mine for a few months now and I am not particularly happy with it. First, I absolutely HATE the lint screen and opening. There is just so very much lint not only on the screen itself but also the inside of the machine. I do my best, but I have yet to be able to clear all the stray lint out of the opening. The foam becomes so coated in dust and it is almost impossible to really clean. In watching your video, your detergent trays are nice and dry. Mine have NEVER been dry since I started using the machine. All of the slots on the detergent side are always filled with water and NEVER drain. The only time everything is dry is when I physically dry the inside myself. The rubber ring always has lint, hairs, etc., and everything is basically baked on. I can only remove it if I use a lot of water. I also have an issue with lighter items getting stuck behind the fins and remaining absolutely wet, not damp. I then have to run a separate dry only cycle once I take everything else out in order to dry the items that were left wet. I have spoken to customer service. They did sent out someone to look at the lint screen and determined everything was fine. They had no explanation for why the water will not drain from the detergent and said, "Well, just keep drying manually." The outside filter is so extremely low to the ground that water gets everywhere each time I have had to clean it. The only thing that I really like about this machine is being able to control cycles from the app and the notifications. I have yet to decide if I want to keep it or sell it and just go back to separate stackable units.

    FINALLY a video that does not have cheesy music but just explaining the product thank you very much! I just use my GE profile combo yesterday for the first time and you're right you don't really need to use dryer sheets unless you want your clothes to smell flowery because of the fact that there's not all this convection heat like use with a regular dryer you're not going to get that static. I did have a bit of trouble trying to hook up the app to the machine because it was asking for the serial number and the model number and I don't know where the serial number is I have to look again I guess. Some people complain because it's closed can be slightly damp but once you take them out and shake them out they're fine. I mean this is an incredibly energy-efficient machine.

    We had to get one of these because our current dryer was blowing lint through a vent straight into the crawl space. California home insurance wouldn’t cover us unless we fixed this. It was going to cost 5k to redo the vents in the house so it actually was cheaper to just get this. So far no issues except that you need to put it on extra dry and wrinkle control for sheets. I like the feature of not having to move the clothes. I am a little worried about what happens if it breaks so looks like we will have to maintain it well

    Regarding question number 3, one significant factor contributing to prolonged drying times in certain cases is the presence of lint. Allow me to elaborate:
    1. Firstly, if your garments accumulate a substantial amount of lint, it's essential to meticulously clean the lint filter.
    2. Secondly, should lint manage to bypass the lint filter, it can start obstructing the condenser. It's worth noting that the dryer in this unit functions akin to a dehumidifier. Consequently, when lint obstructs the condenser's airflow, it adversely impacts the drying process.
    3. G.E. offers a specialized wire brush designed specifically for removing lint from areas where it shouldn't accumulate.
    Apart from this consideration, I have a profound appreciation for my G.E. Profile dryer.

    I discovered that a residue had built up on the mesh side of the filter, thus causing a limitation in air flow and resulting damp laundry. It took longer and longer for each load to finish, and hardly any lint was being produced. Once I washed the filter, the next load was dry and a massive amount of lint being held back spread onto the filter. I blame either Downey softener or Oxiiclean powder for that residue. Also it is important to wash fine lint off of the foam filter. I do that about weekly.

  • @philipgrice1026
    @philipgrice1026 9 месяцев назад +1

    Matthew, you don't fully understand how this washer/dryer works. Yes, it uses a heat pump. A heat pump moves heat, it does not create it. The electricity drives the drum rotation and the heat pump, which moves fluid between an evaporator and a condenser. The condenser, which is cold, causes moisture passing over it to condense out, drying the air that is then blown back through the drum during the drying cycle. That moisture (condensate) is then routed out the drain pipe. The same drain pipe where water squeezed out during the spin cycle exits the machine. I suspect it is accumulated in a sump and pumped out using the same pump that empties the spin cycle water.
    BTW. This is not new technology. We owned an AEG Lavalux washer drier combo back in Britain in the 1970s. It did not use a heat pump, but was a top-loaded washer and dryer. It probably only held half what this new GE machine does and was a little noisier, but it was on wheels and could be wheeled into a cupboard when not in use.

    Does the top of your unit feel ‘warm’ near the area where the heat pump is? I ask because mine doesn’t feel any type of warm. Do the clothes feel warm when they are done?
    We just got the machine and I’ve tried six different times and so far unsuccessful. Last night we did fix the drain hose which was indeed way too far in. So the stuff was coming out dripping.
    Today with the hose fixed the clothes are not sopping wet, but they are WET.

    I've had this model for about a month. I too was interested in the electricity usage. Using a Kasa smart plug with energy monitor it recorded 1.35kWh for a very full (with towels) load on extra heavy soil that took about 2.5 hours. That is amazingly little electricity. However, the Kasa shows that it continues to use electricity while off. Not a huge amount, but it could use more in the many standby hours than washing if you don't wash a lot. I have other appliances (Samsung dishwasher & fridge, Rheem heat pump water heater) that have very good energy monitoring features in their apps. GE (Hair) missed a great feature, and that' my biggest complaint. I have massive solar, so the cost is not selling to the utility. They pay me about $0.03224/kWh so less than 5 cents out of my pocket to wash a dry that load. Mine is on a 13in universal pedestal with a drawer. Being rated for 600lbs, it has no problem. I did lift it myself with a 1A ladder and some ratchet straps.This GE is actually about 15lbs lighter than my old Samsung FlexWash.

    Hi, Matthew Wallace. Question for you... Have you had an opportunity yet to peek inside of the slot where the lint filter goes when the filter is out? I've had my unit for 3 weeks now, and am fastidious about keeping the filter cleaned. I am seeing, however, that quite a bit of lint is either making it's way around the filter to the evaporator core fins, or lint is getting knocked loose from the filter during removal and then getting sucked into the fins.
    Are you seeing any of the same? This has caught my eye after just a few weeks of use to the degree that I've already taken my vacuum cleaner with a long flexible hose and sucked lint off of the fins. I don't see an obvious way to open the top of this unit to really clean those, when needed, but the design causes me to predict that these are going to clog and reduce airflow over not too much time.
    Have you looked at yours, and if so, wondering whether you have any observations or thoughts? I needed a flashlight to see the fins well.

    I bought two units from Nebraska Furniture Mart for $3500 for their 4th of July sale plus a discount code and have been using them for a couple weeks now. My entire family loves them. If you’re in the market and can afford the price tag, it’s an awesome machine!
    I did however buy the pedestals direct from GE and put them on myself with a little help from my wife. Just put some old blankets down and carefully tip the machine on its back, a few brackets and screws and boom. It really wasn’t too difficult, just remember to lift with your legs

    Can you please post a video of the the machine first running? I got one of these and when it first starts and it’s doing the learning or measuring of the load and it’s spinning up it makes a high pitch sound like a jet engine. Just wondering if that sound is normal. I don’t hear that sound outside of this part of the cycle. Would highly appreciate it!

    FYI, Home Depot does not give the Veteran discount for this washer. I know because I went to order it and the vet discount won't apply. I ordered thru Costco on 11-23-23 and paid $1850 plus $129 tax. That includes delivery, setup and haul-away of my old washer and dryer, which I'll store in the garage to make sure my wife is happy with this GE. FYI, I LOVE that this runs on 120V only. Also, it does not require a vent, so no vent cleanouts anymore. And the 120V makes it possible to run from my EcoFlow Delta Pro battery generators. That's great for a grid down situation, which we've experienced after hurricanes. (no fun being without power for 10 days. And my generator burns thru gas.)

    Big question: what are you going to do with all that extra space?
    When you said 2 dogs and showed the pic of them I thought it looked like 4 dogs, lol bet the hair seems like it is 4 sometimes! I’ve downsized to one small dog and the amount of fur still surprises me since she doesn’t seem to shed.
    Mine doesn’t come until next week so I’m having fun watching these videos. I was dismayed to read you shouldn’t use vinegar as it will degrade some parts, then I read that that is true with most modern washers. Also in the Q&A on GE’s site someone asked about Lysol wash sanitizer and they said they haven’t tested it yet, so I guess I’ll give away my big bottle.

    • @woolval52
      @woolval52 10 месяцев назад +1

      RedErin, I have to agree about using vinegar. My wife has been using vinegar. I looked in the washer and saw paint bubbled where the water is dispensed into the tub. I reached around back and the metal just crumbled away. LOL, I used this as a justification to buy the GE washer/dryer combo. And no more using of vinegar.

The first Tech (works for sears AE repair) and he said there are 5 error codes BUT they don’t have the schematics to “fix” or order parts! My machine squeaks when the drum rotates. It sounds like I have bolts in the drum. I LOVE the convenience of this machine, but I can’t deal with the noise! It’s LOUD! It trips my GFCI (not the breaker but the outlet) and then the noise… UGGH. I wish I knew an appliance guy near me that could fix this! GE is HORRIBLE for customer service too!!!! Oh and yes I have the pedestal but GE will only replace the money spent on the machine itself not the pedestal. 😔

    • @Blessed_and_highly_favored
      @Blessed_and_highly_favored Год назад

      The machine senses if there is detergent in the reservoir and a light on the machine comes on, noting that. If you choose not to have it automatically added, you just turn that function off. You can do the same with the fabric softener if you choose to add it manually even if you have some on the reservoir. You can use the app to choose if you want the machine to add more or less than the default as well.

      I installed one a month ago.
      Overall extremely pleased.
      It is different.
      The drying mechanism leaves the clothes feeling slightly damp when first removed… but then dry once you shake & fold. (This is literally in the directions).
      I once tried load with queen sized sheets & bulky cloth blanket… without setting ‘bulk’.
      3 hours later blanket still wet.
      But, I’d never try to dry this blankets & sheets together either because it would take forever with my old 2 machine setup. Id wash them together & then dry separately. So why do I expect the GE to perform miracles.
      Now, I was them both with a pause after wash to remove sheets & just dry the blanket. After it finishes, dry the sheets using just the dry cycle.
