This song is about realizing that everything is from Hashem and we need to realize we don't know or understand everything in every situation. And the best we can do is try to be the best human being we can in every situation.
The dancers wearing the tzitzit on top of the black t-shirts was just for the visuals in this video. It does make sense to wear them underneath, as many do. Ultimately, it’s up to personal preference and/or which sect or community someone follows, that determines dress code. As you’ve seen from the many videos, clothes and outfits can vary dramatically.
1) Knots are important part of the tzitzis 2) MORDECHAI WAS IN MBC (check out hiney ma tov on their channel - kids version, not alumni) 3) Hakol mishamayim - all is from heaven
Mordechai Shapiro is an amazing singer and one of the most popular nowadays. The song is called "Hakol Mishamayim" which means "It's all from above/heaven/God" For the pronunciation, you had it right in the beginning. It's me-shuh-ma-yeem.
The commandment is for men to not dress like women and vice-versa. What is considered Men's clothing or women's clothing spends on the time and place. In Scotland a Kilt is not considered women's clothing, and in middle-eastern countries men traditionally wear robes, so in those places there is no problem for a man to wear place-appropriate clothing. My brother was a Rabbi in Edenborough many years ago, and on certain formal events who would wear a kilt, when that was considered appropriate dress code.
The tzitzis (or tzitzit, depending on where you come from) are generally worn all day, underneath the shirt on top of the undershirt. Some people put it above the shirt if they're going to be active and sweat, to not get it dirty like in the summer. That's probably what he was going for in this.
That's a good question. I suppose you may have a point that kilts are for men, however the girls in my highschool wore kilts as well. Pleated kilt to be exact, which might be considered a different type of kilt? Haha, I literally have no idea 😂
AFAIK a Jew in Scotland can wear a kilt when necessary because it's considered a man's outfit there. In other places it would be considered women's clothes. Context is important. (not a rabbi)
Also, the song title translates to: “everything is from heaven”. Meaning, that it’s all directed from above and we can’t see the big picture. Hakol = Everything. Mishamayim = From Heaven. (Shamayim means ‘heaven’, the prefix mi means ‘from’. Hence, mi-shanayim.)
Mordy Shapiro is my best singer he is number 1 scoring singer bringing a clean classy good vibe to Jewish music scwekey was the one till now mordy Shapiro is being from now till the next star will beat him out anyway check out song one in a million mordy Shapiro it’s in English but it’s a little old check out his latest with Benny Freidman together Check out all his stuff you can’t go wrong. I love your reactions thank you and keep them coming I am waiting every day for this. ❤
So you might see them playing with the knot sometimes, cuz some people will check each morning (by the prayers) and tighten the top knot, so it doesn't open up after time ..
My favorite part is when you ask about whether men can wear kilts and then wonder aloud if that’s too much of an abstract question. Welcome to Judaism where abstract questions are our literal favorite thing ever. You are already thinking with a “Yiddishe kop” (Jewish thought process)😂
Hahah, I'm sure you've noticed my mind goes all over when I watch these videos! It's so fascinating learning something from a previous video and then using that information towards another video. I'm sure I would love to be in those discussion sessions where you get very abstract ☺️
That’s kind of what the men are doing when you see them studying the Gemara! People make observations about Jewish people doing well in business etc (with a negative connotation) and you look around and it makes you wonder bc you can’t deny that it exists. But what people don’t realize is that we are trained to think out of the box, think creatively, develop an extensive thought process and learn all the time from young age. These skills may just lend themselves to a business mind. It’s not some insidious evil plan of domination. Can’t it just be culture, work ethic, a focus on community building and on development of helpful critical thinking skills?
Here's a good video if you want to check out a slower song from Mordechai ruclips.net/video/4g2SoN-Paxk/видео.html He's a fun and energetic performer and one of the stars of today To answer some questions 1) the tzitizis knots are always tied on. You just have to check periodically that they don't get loose or get tangled 2) if there's no mezuza on the door you don't kiss the frame because the only holiness of the door post is in the scroll
About the mezuzah thing, I definitely touch the doorpost even when there's no mezuzah. But that's purely out of habit! 😄 There's no actual value in that.
You should really check out Yosi Piamenta; he was dubbed (much to his chagrin) the "Hasidic Hendrix" by The Village Voice for his virtuosic guitar playing. He was on the Jewish music scene for 40+ years until his passing a few years ago. Here he plays with his brother (the flutist) and his son (vocals) - ruclips.net/video/ai-mmWXxvqs/видео.html
Regarding the question you asked about the tassel There are always ties in it, but with them they are untied and need to be tied If you can make a video about Hanan Ben Ari's song World Champion I would really appreciate it
this song inspired me to get a bagpipe. while they are very well related to Scotland - the Bagpipe is actually the most universally independently discovered instrument around the world. The difference is how many "drones" each has - Scottish "highland" pipes have 3 drones, whereas bagpipes originating in Pakistan have a single drone.
Awesome video as usual! Mordechai has many other great songs... Yoni Z is a similar vibe and has great quality videos, think you would enjoy "Ma Naaseh"
10:30 - He is saying the "m". I am able to hear it. The letter (mem) as a suffix makes things plural-masculine in Hebrew. Shamayim means heavens. This song is about how everything is from the heavens (G-d runs the world).
1/2. There are two types of "religious garments." The problem is that the naming gets confusing. Both of them are 4-cornered garments with the 'tzitzis' strings/knots attached (they're only tied once on installation, although the one on the end can come loose so that may need to be tightened periodically). The big one (called a 'prayer shawl' in english) is a Tallis/Tallit, or occasionally a Tallis Gadol (for 'large tallis'). It's just a large rectangle that we wrap around us for prayers or other special occasions. The smaller one gets confusing because we colloquially call it 'tzitis' after the strings/knots, even though the larger one has the same things. Some people call it a 'Tallis katan' (for 'small tallis') which makes more sense, but isn't really used in the Yeshivish/Chassidish worlds. Boys/men wear that all day every day, generally under the shirt (like Mordechai is in the video), but there are people who wear it over their shirt- it's just a custom thing. 3. No, we only kiss a mezuzah if it's actually there, but force of habit kicks in sometimes. ;) 4. The kilt question is a good one, and yeah, doesn't come up that often! I would assume yes, if it's considered men's clothing, it would be ok in the location. The reason women don't wear pants is partially because of cross-dressing, but also because they're considered immodest. 5. 'Mi-shuh-ma-yeem' or 'Me-shuh-ma-yim', it can be both, (although technically it's 'Me-shuh-ma-yeem', but people colloquially don't go there very often) but yes, with the 'm.' 6. You need to finish the credits! Mordy is the rising star in Yeshivish music right now, maybe you'd like his full concert from Camp Morasha? (Not to react, just to watch) ruclips.net/video/nhgFuiJrx9I/видео.html
Boy what an error I made. I thought I had the correct term with the garments. I knew that the Tallis was the shawl for prayers, and that the Tzitzis was the strings. Didn't know just the "poncho" was a Tzitis 🤦. Also, why do the yeshivish/chassidish not use them?
"Tzitis" was a typo. It's "tzitzis", the same word as the strings are called. The yeshivish and chassidish wear them, but generally don't refer to them as a tallis katan. We just call the whole garment "tzitzis" since the strings are the important part.
I've seen him in about an Earthling 30cm range once... he ran away as fast as he did with the "leg-broken guy" aka his student in real life, Danny Palgon
I agree with Noah!!! You’d love Matana! I suggested Schar Mitzvah to you because I knew you’d love it, and I know you’d love this song as well! Thanks for all your amazing content!
Regarding the kilts question, its not too abstract at all! Jews (both religious and not) can be found almost anywhere in the world, and there are Scottish Jewish Orthodox men who wear kilts!
To see a very young Mordechai, please view the studio recording of an old MBC song “Yerushalayim, Can You Hear Our Voice”. He doesn’t have a solo, but it is a good video.
Side note, I saw you had a video in your feed of Ben Shapiro. Ben and Mordechai are actually friends (not related, Shapiro is a very common Jewish last name). There's a cute video on youtube of Ben going up on stage to sing with him.
It always has the knots. Most people wear it under the shirt. The song is saying every moment is from the heavens and the will of heaven. He is saying even things that seem like inconveniences are part of a bigger picture you can't see. The mezuzah is only for Jewish owned permanent residences. In terms of cross-dressing for Jewish people, it usually has to do with the common associations in your area, so kilts are up for debate, and you would ask your local rav for advice.
The M at the and of "Hakol Mishamayim" (say everything from the sky, meaning everything it is god dids) it is not silent at all, but he got a strong american accent.
Where one wears the tsitsith garment is dependent upon custom and age and geography! Generally, it's worn under the shirt. Chassidic and/or so-called ultra-othodox more often wear above shirt, beneath jacket. Kids generally wear underneath shirt, though in Jerusalem ultra-orthodox, u'll often see them worn on top of shirt.
A "mzuzah" contain a special quote from the holly book writen on parchment in en holly ceremonual way. if you dont have that parchment you dont have a reason t kiss it.
I know everyone keeps mentioning this song, but if you enjoy Mordechai Shapiro and his energy, here is a collab he did with Benny Friedman and Matt Dubb and it is 🔥 in terms of energy while giving a great look into the holiday of simchas Torah (which the Man From Vilna was about) ruclips.net/video/zyxAQ8RpzPI/видео.html
10:38 yeah, he is saying the m, just can't hear it. Actually that's the case also in other videos where there was a m and you didn't hear it 😀 it's tricky
The prohibition is on men wearing women's clothing and vice-versa. So long as the clothing is designed and meant for men, it would be permissible. So it would fluctuate based on the culture/society the person was in. In Scotland a kilt is a normal male garment, so it is permitted.
A kilt is man's clothes. So they can weird it. But it is indeed a good question. Based on that some more modern women wear pants that are meant for women.
So it's 1a.m. and I see you just dropped a new video about 2 hours ago. I'm excited and love your channel. I figure great this time I'm going to be that guy/girl who answers all those questions you have during your reaction. But I see they've already been pretty much answered. So instead I will attempt to get you to do a reaction video for this ruclips.net/video/Eu547PT06fQ/видео.html I've tried once before it's from the Gat Brothers out of Jerusalem Israel. Imagine 2 hasidic rabbinic guys playing cover music to the likes of the Beatles, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd and many others. If you enjoy this one, they have a duet with Amir Dadon The "rock star" as you referred to him Ina video with Isham ribo. Hope to see your reaction to these guys soon and in the meantime keep em coming love what your doing and I'm definitely subscribing
regarding shorts and clothing, in the jewish communities most of the hasidic jewish people wear classic clothing so when everybody wears classy you dont want to be the one that wears something completely different because everybody will stare at you but really there are no major rules for men what they are aloud to wear and what not, even when a hasidic jew goes on vacation to someplace they will mostly remain with there clothes they usually were because its kind of tradition but not a rule. Hasidic women can wear what they want as long as they are covered and again most of it is black because its classy and everybody in the hasidic communities wears that dont ask me y
😂 again it’s not that bad I live in borough park and wear my white polo and gray jacket i feel like another regular person and my friends who do wear black everyday say I’m the cooler guy so everyone should do what they like to do
Obviously mezuzahs are ONLY for jewish owned homes and businesses. If it's a non jewish owned office or business or hotel, there is no mezuzah and one just walks in, and even sleeps in the hotelroom, without kissing anything... No point in touching a door frame that has nothing on it...
I'm not an authority on Jewish law (Halachah), but I imagine a Scottish Kilt would be permitted for a man because it's a man's garment, so it wouldn't be defined as cross-dressing.
crossdressing is completely culture based so in scotland, where the culture is that men wear kilts there is no problem for a jewish man to wear one as well
By 9:31 about “not a very nutritious meal” he probably didn’t have time to buy anything bc he was late for the interview so he probably took what he had in his car…. I mean it would’ve been nice to pay for a whole meal but the video is more like, just be kind, do what’s right, it’s not much hard work….
If no mezuzah is on the door post, then there's nothing intrinsically specialness to the door to kiss. The holiness is whats written in the mezuzah. If a man wants to wear skirt, it's definitely not accepted in western society. Perhaps middle eastern where more men wear robes....u get the idea. In America nen wear pants😀

Good questions about the skirt... really good question.. i'm sure it's discussed in our studies..
Great reaction video
Sick videos I love Mordy and you should make more videos of him
Awesome reaction to Mordechai Shapiro. He is an awesome singer and brings a fresh vibe to the Jewish music industry.
you said the name of the song perfectly at the begining. Ha-kol (all) Mi-Sha-Ma-Yim (is from heaven)

Jews in Scotland do wear kilts for formal occasions, I've seen it! It is probably permitted because kilts are specifically for men (right?)
That's a good question. I suppose you may have a point that kilts are for men, however the girls in my highschool wore kilts as well. Pleated kilt to be exact, which might be considered a different type of kilt? Haha, I literally have no idea 😂

6:15 - Mezuzos are for Jewish places, and if it's not there, then there's nothing to touch.
That’s funny I had a friend from Scotland I think he did tell me he wore a kilt back in Scotland 😂
Here's a good video if you want to check out a slower song from Mordechai ruclips.net/video/4g2SoN-Paxk/видео.html
He's a fun and energetic performer and one of the stars of today
To answer some questions
1) the tzitizis knots are always tied on. You just have to check periodically that they don't get loose or get tangled
2) if there's no mezuza on the door you don't kiss the frame because the only holiness of the door post is in the scroll
About the mezuzah thing, I definitely touch the doorpost even when there's no mezuzah. But that's purely out of habit! 😄 There's no actual value in that.
When a doorpost had a mezuzah and was taken down briefly (to get checked, etc.) one should still kiss the place where it was.
You hear the M at the end of the word, the meaning of the word is - from heaven
You should really check out Yosi Piamenta; he was dubbed (much to his chagrin) the "Hasidic Hendrix" by The Village Voice for his virtuosic guitar playing. I was just as confused by the bagpipe and Irish dancing when I first saw this video 😂😂
Regarding the question you asked about the tassel
There are always ties in it, but with them they are untied and need to be tied
If you can make a video about Hanan Ben Ari's song World Champion I would really appreciate it
GUESS WHO I SAW TODAY AT LUNCH.. MORDECHAI HAHAH
this song inspired me to get a bagpipe.
while they are very well related to Scotland - the Bagpipe is actually the most universally independently discovered instrument around the world. The difference is how many "drones" each has - Scottish "highland" pipes have 3 drones, whereas bagpipes originating in Pakistan have a single drone.
You’ve probably seen people tightening the knots, not actually tying them. They’re already tied when you buy them
Thank you, and this is awesome, but you paused during the credits!! You need to go back and watch the credits! ;)
Just came back to this video because I forgot to like 👍 it earlier. Just trying the least to show some appreciation.
In scotland where it is the norm to wear kilts, they can and even o at special occasions.
Mordechai Schapiro is a power house, he really brings the house down when he sings.
He has a colab with Benny Friedman as well, you should review it.
Yes!! Do more mordechai shapiro pls!!
Yez it is called tzitzit. There are knots on top of each tassel.
1:00 The knots is part of the tradition of wearing them. Yes, you are seeing them correctly!
I like the Celtic vibe. I was a big fan of The Corrs back in the day. Sort of reminds me of that.
The "tzitzit" is handmade and that video you saw em making the knots it was a shot view of how you put the strings together to make it tzitzit
Tightening the knots . As apposed to tying them.
1/2. There are two types of "religious garments." The problem is that the naming gets confusing. You missed the last part of the video. He has one more scene in the end credits that is pretty funny.
It always has the knots. Most people wear it under the shirt. The song is saying every moment is from the heavens and the will of heaven. Imagine 2 hasidic rabbinic guys playing cover music to the likes of the Beatles, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd and many others. If you enjoy this one, they have a duet with Amir Dadon
The "rock star" as you referred to him Ina video with Isham ribo.
Oh man, I would be the biggest sore thumb in the community if I was Jewish haha....I love my shorts...I'm still wearing them now in my -8° weather 😅
In regards to crossdressing the standard is dictated per what is normal in each local
they are wearing which we wear every day the talit is much bigger and only wear it at the prayer
I'm not an authority on Jewish law (Halachah), but I imagine a Scottish Kilt would be permitted for a man because it's a man's garment, so it wouldn't be defined as cross-dressing.
Mi-shu-may-im
It’s not ha- it’s me-
@@shayazussmann2307 thanks quick typing
You should check out yoni z
Just walk through like its nothing if there is no mizuzzah
Cross dressing is culture specific.
A Jew in Scotland when all men would wear kilts would be able to wear a kilt
crossdressing is completely culture based so in scotland, where the culture is that men wear kilts there is no problem for a jewish man to wear one as well
No mezzuzah. No kiss
he is saying the m
Yes Jewish Scottish man wear kilts there is a Jewish community so it’s not to removed
THE M IS NOT SILENT!!
It is pronounced me-sha-ma-yim
