As a Jewish orthodox guy, it is awesome to see someone not from our community and culture enjoying Jewish music.
You definitely will get new subscribers and much more views. Your videos and reactions to our music is just so much fun to watch. Keep'em coming.
You already reviewed in the past Mordechai Schapiro and Benny Friedman, this video is a colab between the 2 of them, I'm sure you will love it, it's called L'chai Olamim.
with lipa being the first biggest "pop star" of the chasidish world, he's known more for the fabulous artist and originality which he creates. his voice is another thing. but talented he is. big fan.
I love the way you react to videos 😂❤ Your so entertaining and omg this song was my childhood
😂😂YESS another video!! YOU ARE THE MANN
This reaction was flawless! Lipa Schmeltzer is one of, if not the first pop stars in the orthodox Jewish hassidic community. This video is about 10 years old, you should check out some of his new stuff, he has some incredible music. He is an extremely talented composer and lyricist. Props to you for getting yourself into our music! I hope you enjoy your journey!
Hi great content!!
He’s singing in Yiddish…
And the fridge part he’s just saying that all phones are named after things you can eat but they can’t give you life
Blackberry, apple, tablets….
In the fridge scene he was talking about food in general saying something along the lines of "you can't eat a blackberry(phone)".
Lipa is a musical genius, his creativity is incredible.
And the 'i' in iphone referring to an egg in Yiddish, which is 'eyer'
@@menachemspielman145 אייער is plural איי is singlular
Once again you're analysis is flawless. I agree--an interesting request from whoever wanted you to react to this song/singer. Anyway he sounds better when speaking Yiddish (it wasn't hebrew) because that's his primary language. Also kugel is a traditional Jewish food made primarily from potatoes, often eaten on shabbos. He was searching up "hentelach" the name of one of his biggest hits. As for the fridge, no real meaning behind it that i can think of.
Haha, thanks Izzy. You're always on point with your info/responses! Would you say his other song "Hentelach" would be worth a listen too?
@@PortuguesePai I'd recommend first checking out some other singers u haven't seen yet such as Yaakov shwekey, baruch levine, shmuli Unger, simcha leiner. Not sure if they have a lot of live stuff on youtube but they all have music videos
@@PortuguesePai he's making a play on words with "apple" "blackberry" etc (and "eye" which in Yiddish means egg).
That's why he's in the fridge saying "I remember when these things didn't grow in Manhattan"...
@@izzym1 mbd

Of course you like the traditional interlude. Love your vids.
Your channel is on fire!!!
I don’t think this song specifically had to do with the sabbath - we all just take it for granted that we can’t use electricity and stuff, we don’t need a song abt it. I’m pretty sure it’s just about how texting and social media is negatively impacting our social lives and relationships.
Btw we can use fridges on Shabbat just as long as we turn off the automatic light (or else every time we open the fridge we turn the light on).
The significance in the fridge is that in that part of the song he does a play on words. The letter I in iphone pronounced aii means egg in Yiddish so he says I remember when an "aii" only meant eggsalad.
And then he goes on to say he remembers when blackberries weren't grown in Manhattan but on trees and only people with headaches would use tablets (i.e. Advil)
So he opened the fridge to show an egg.
The phones are in the fridge because that’s where blackberries belong. He says he remembers when blackberries didn’t grow in Manhattan, he’s talking about Blackberry devices which are very popular (or at least were when this song was released) in the Hasidic community.
The Yiddish verses (these are actually Yiddish lines, not Hebrew) are pretty creative.
Like the refrigerator scene goes like this:
iPhone, iPad, iPod, Ei vus kimt dus tzi mein shteebl? (Meaning how does it belong in my house. Ei is like a multi-purpose Yiddish word used here as in “how”)
Ich gedenk nuch ven a ei, hut gemeint an ei mit tzvibl (I remember when an I meant eggs and onion, eggs in Yiddish is also called Ei, and it’s referring to a delicacy traditionally served at the Sabbath day meal).
Not sure if I explained it well enough, but these are actually pretty funny lines with lots of word play, way better than the English ones.
By the way there's a certain genius in Lipa rhyming the word kugel with google..... pretty much all Jews (or culinary experts) pronounce the 'u' in kugel like the 'oo' sound in BOOK. Which DOESN'T actually rhyme with GOOGLE. Except for Chassidic Yiddish speakers who speak English as a second language...... since their first language doesn't have the ooooo sound, they would pronounce Google to rhyme with Kugel. So the rhyme sounds more ingenious than forced.....
Lipa is a A musical genius, Someone once called him the Lady Gaga of the Hasidic music....
I think I may have said that at one point too haha, or at least thought it after that video
Yes,this is a different version of the lady gaga song "Stop telephoning me".
Love your honesty
I'm here for the "K....right of the bat......" lol
You got wrong the fridge an egg in the language of Yiddish is called an “eye” so he is singing I remember when the iPhone, iPads, that he remembers when someone said “eye” it meant egg, and not I phone or I pod or I pad.
Also he said only who ever has a headache used to take a tablet meant as a pill for painkiller not a tablet of technology
Please do Beri weber riboin
5:36 - There were some words that may be Hebrew here, but this may have had more Yiddish - a language that uses Old German with elements Hebrew and Aramaic influences as well as influences from the regions these people lived in (Transylvania, Lithuania, etc.).
great review lots of fun to watch
Damn the Magic powder been kicking in hard
Sheeeeeeesh
I - as in iPhone, iPad... is Yiddish for egg. So he's saying he remembers when "i" used to just mean eggs. That's why the devices are in the fridge 🤣
I totally love that your favorite part of a pop song by a chassidic artist is when they take a Break from the pop music to break into a Nigun (wordless chassidic song) at 7:15. You're so genuine! And it's so funny that I could literally see a super traditional orthodox parent telling their kid that the song is no good except for those 15 seconds that you ❤️
Lipa Hentelach - one of this biggest hits check it out - the other Language your hearing is Yiddish his mother Language he grew up on
Another great analysis! I think you’ve found your niche 😉
Huh? What did I just watch?! Oh my!
Check out lipa and the kinderlach the song is called make it happen and it's a live performance
It doesn't have to do anything with the sabbath, it's just for the daily life
He making a "kugel" with eggs from the fridge.
The fridge and the egg. "Egg" in Yiddish is pronounced "eye" or the letter "I" it's a word play on the theme of the song.
He still remembers the old days when "I'' - the indicator for technology e.g. iphone ipad etc. meant something related to eggs as opposed to tech and he refers to a Sabbath morning entree popular as "egg-with-onions" which would sound like "i-Mit zvible" in Yiddish
He was singing in Yiddish not Hebrew
You can also try "YONI Z" An amazing singer
Kugel - Is usually potato or sweet noodle or salt and pepper pudding. He was singing in Yiddish.

The fridge was just showing that phones are everywhere taking over our lives
No it was more than that. He's mentioning the old blackberry phone, berries was a fridge item
@@johnjacobs7426 I think that's more of a produce section thing😀
If you're interested in hearing more of Lipa you should check out this song (ruclips.net/video/I6CDlzDSHzM/видео.html) he composed with Yaakov Shwekey, another super popular orthodox singer!
Lipa is an incredible talent, more renowned for his brilliant Yiddish lyrics and creativity. This is one of his few songs in English which is his 2nd language so it doesn't sound as good as his other stuff
Yeah! But I commend anyone that tries/does something they're not well versed or practiced on. He made the song very relatable to English listeners as well as Jewish people.
@@PortuguesePai 💯 it's awesome, just not as fluent in English as he is in Yiddish. His English lyrics are much more amateur sounding. His Yiddish lyrics are brilliant
@@PortuguesePai if you want to see a Yiddish music video of his, here's one he recently released. Shows a much more emotional side of his music as well in contrast to the pop of Hang Up The Phone
ruclips.net/video/H8VoPv4FDeM/видео.html
Hi I’m Hasidic and it’s so funny to see you mess up the meanings like when you thought it was Hebrew instead of Yiddish and when you thought that when he put the phones in the fridge it was to keep them away
Check out Ohad moskovitz or Baruch Levine guys have really large ranges and sweet voices
This video came out when the smartphone came out so he says that it used to be that instead of searching Google he was busy making kugel which is a popular Jewish food
And the thing with the fridge is that a lot of then new devices was called names from food like BlackBerry and also cameras in Yiddish is called same name as eggs
Good choice 🙂
His in the fridge looking for blackberry’s
Do more LIPA he has some good stuff
I like songs that are a little more connected to the roots... Can you please react to Hanan Ben Ari -AMEN AL AYELADIM
YOU WILL LOVE HIM...
Yessss plz plz plz
Again , please react to shine a little light by yitzy hurwitz.
It's very emotional .
There isnt a live stage but it's still amazing
Awesome! You should totally check out the music video called Ah yid, by Yaakov shwekey, it's all about Jewish traditions.
Try "FRIENDS" From Mordechai Shapiro
So I don't think he is talking about shabbat only about the smartphone epidemic in general.
I don't actually like this song at all but I really enjoy your reactions and you trying to guess what is the religious reasoning behind stuff, you are a very curious person and I really like that
Please do 2 to 3 videos a day it won’t hurt
Have you ever made a video? Reaction videos are relatively straightforward but they still take time to edit. And I expect that Mr. PotuguesePai probably works a full time job.
Chill out with making demands of the guy. It's nice that someone is appreciating Jewish culture. Don't make a chillul Hashem by making unrealistic demands
Of course if it’s hard to do more than one video a day you shouldn’t but what I meant was in a good way that it’s all good I can’t even wait for the next one to come more often
Theres a brand new song you have to react to that's a Collab between Benny Friedman and mordechai Shapiro called l'chai olamim
This spontaneous song by the Shira choir has 24M views: ruclips.net/video/ckVYO9oI8vc/видео.html
But then, the remix by professional hipster, 'The Kiffness", with 3.5M views, spices it up! ruclips.net/video/EGmXAu8geVg/видео.html
You should watch the video from Peter Santenelli interviewing Lipa.
yaakov shwekey does have several live performances
Actually, Lipa was singing in Yiddish, not Hebrew. Great review!
Love the videos. I’m curious on how you feel about your channel becoming one that reacts to Jewish music. Do you feel trapped into it? I’m sure you’re really enjoying it but I wouldn’t mind if you did some of your older videos as well. Like I said - I love the videos and would really enjoy watching more but still curious on your thoughts about it. Surely you’re learning a lot more about the Jewish people in a positive light but at this rate you’re gonna end up Jewish by this time next year 😂. Thanks for the videos
This is what Blowing this channel so for now for the next few months as long as it goes you should never stop with this reacts it will only make you bigger once you are by a few thousand subscribers you can go back and try a different path that’s my opinion
Ya I've been a little torn. I'm having an absolute blast reacting to these videos, and the community has been very supportive and helping a lot. But there are other things I'd love to react to for sure. And I have, when I posted that video on the sea lions. Obviously it didn't do as well as these videos, but if there's something I really wanna react to I will. Might not be for everyone, but that's life 😂
@@PortuguesePai I totally get you!
@@PortuguesePai like someone else mentioned in a previous video, even tough at this point many if not most of your subs are religiois jews that's not to say no one would be interested in a different type of reaction video, just bear in mind that frum Jews won't watch a video of mating animals or stuff like that
@@izzym1 hahah, that's good to know. I'm in no rush to react to anything in particular at the moment. As I mentioned, I'm having a blast. But I'm sure there will come a time
Check out "Dudi Kalish"
he is singing in Yiddish an ei or I is an egg he says at one time an I meant an egg That's why the i phones are all in the fridge
you gotta react to dancing in the rain. we have a video of it on our channel.
He says that egg in yiddish it's called i used to be food and now its a iphone
Oh and he's singing in Yiddish which is a language the Ashkenazi Jews made while in exile in the European countries to be able to communicate with each other across the board and in so to speak secret. It's mostly a mashup of general German and Hebrew.
The Sefardi Jews have a similar language called Ladino which is old Spanish for the most part that they kept after they were kicked out of Spain. It's less widely used because of how old it is and how they scattered to different places in the world also made it harder to keep but because large Spanish communities moved to Turkey so many Turkish Jews speak Ladino.
What a long comment that no one will ever read this turned out to be 😂😂
Highly recommend watching Simcha Leiner - Ribono
Kugel is a traditional jewish dish made from potatoes and eggs and oil
please dont forget to listen to yaakov shwekey...
Loving the videos brother! Would love to connect!
it's himself
"Kugel" is a traditional Jewish food, not sure of its origins, it's basically shredded potatoes with an egg mixture, sort of like a large potato pie
Thanks for all the videos about Jews
Hor does not sing in Hebrew, he sings in Yiddish 5:46
The live from shwekey is pretty good

You should really really really review one of his live stuff. Like a wedding or something
you need to react to Mordechai Shapiro Friends there's a live version video on our channel
Awesome! Thanks for the heads up, I'll add it to the list 🙂
5:42 it's Yiddish
Yiddish!
Here is another song by Lipa. ruclips.net/video/Kx5cQsVVknI/видео.html
English is his second language and for some its their first.Hence he sounds better in not English.
This video kind of reminds alot of Lady Gaga style but i dont mean to compare in any way
Matisya king without his crown!!! On hasc concerts!!
oops lol
Many Hasidic Jews wouldn’t listen to this kind of music.!
Just a reminder this song/video was released in 2012 more than 10 years ago..... You're kinda judging it as if it would've been released yesterday, just food for thought
‘’Kugel’’ is a Jewish food made out of potato’s
Ribon beri weber
Kugel is a food
U would love viznitz music
you should also check out DOVID GABAY
Lipa is a genius lyricist but not the best vocalist. He brought modern pop into Jewish Hasidic music (many traditional rabbis didn’t approve). His English is not the best so he’s not as confident. When he sings in Yiddish, his lyrics and play on words really shine more. He’s mostly knows for his performances, music, and lyrics; similar to any pop star.
Can you please react to five star by naftula Moshe Schnitzler it's Collab of the 5 biggest Jewish singers and it's probably my favorite video
This is the yerakrak song I suggested (I watched like 2 hours straight so I guess it's not terrible to make 3 comments)

This particular video of Lipa Schmeltzer doesn't really show you his voice. There is a much better video called "Gelt", where he also sings in Yiddish, but you get to hear how good his voice really is.
Please check out Beri weber
