Cool tutorial! Here are a couple of questions: 1- instead of using a ramp with all of those black and white inputs to create the bands, can you use a Noise and somehow stretch it circularly? Kind of lile what you did in photoshop but with the extra control to change everything in the noise. 2- this works great when it's applied on a flat surface, but how does it work if you need it on a cylinder so that the caps and sides have the brushed metal look? 3- I've stopped using self made node tools like this because it's an issue when you share projects of you are working in a team for example. Unless you manually do a save with assets for some reason the node tool does not stay with the file, have you found the same issue? Maybe this has been fixed in 2025 but idk. And it can also be a huge problem if you are sending files to a render farm because the values in the tool essentially break so the materials break too.
1. Yes, there are several ways to go about this task. kind of depends on the situation. 2. I was thinking of doing a video on this because I'd approach it differently for a brushed metal peg. 3. Yes, if I'm sharing project with a team I wouldn't turn it into a compressed node and leave it as just a group that way they could get inside if needed. I think 2025 should be fixing this. I hope! I haven't tried out 2025 seriously because I crash it every five minutes. It's really bad.
If there is anything you'd like a tutorial on; shaders, Xpresso, particles, modeling, etc. post in the comments section.
Thanks for watching!
