  • Lion King: The Truth About Why The Lionesses Didn't Just Overthrow Scar When Mufasa Died In Lion King
    Scar wasn’t even close to being the strongest lion in the Pride Lands, yet he still managed to become the King after killing Mufasa and almost killing his heir and son Simba. Not only was he the King, but the dastardly lion showed that he was capable of ruling with an iron fist without anyone questioning him. But what about all of the lionesses that were a part of the pride? You would think that they would’ve just banded together to overthrow their unjust ruler before they ever let him destroy the Pride Lands, but for some reason, they didn’t. Well, after rewatching the movie along with as many other retellings of The Lion King as possible, the shocking truth behind their obedience is pretty clear.

    It's also worth noting that, even with the sentimental attachment, Sarabi did say they have to leave. She phrased it as "we have no choice" but was at the point where she was acknowledging that this wasn't working and they need to do what they have to to survive. It was Scar that said he would rather they all die than leave (basically putting HIS pride over THE pride) For this reason, I think the lionesses might have either left or revolted even if Simba didn't arrive, it's just that Simba arrived at the perfect time to spark the revolt.

    Thank you for taking into account the musical and live-action versions of the movie, and as you said, the reason why the lionesses did not leave the Pridelands was because their land, the land of their ancestors is holy, also they couldn't overthrow Scar because by legitimate law he was the king, believing there were no more heirs.. In addition to the large army of hyenas that protected Scar; they needed outside help, and Nala left in search of help because I think that, in addition to being the youngest adult lioness in the pride and could withstand the trip, and was also the one who was more willing to leave her land and then return to save her and her family.. but in the end it does move me how later the Pridelands return to being the beautiful home that Simba and Nala knew and fought to revive, so they are both perfect to be king and queen

      A lot of people find it shocking because of the age difference even though Nala was grown. In reality female fertility doesn't work like males. Nala was most likely the only lioness on age for motherhood. There used to be more lionesses on the pride at the beginning of the movie. Most likely left, leaving few options for Scar. In the sequel of the movie somehow Scar had a mate & cubs.

    Fun fact: male lions in real life that have a pride need to maintain a strict balancing act in terms of their dominance. Too forgiving, they get overthrown by a stronger male. Too aggressive, the pride either turns on him or let's him die at the paw of another stronger male.

    • @goomba8170
      @goomba8170 10 месяцев назад +7

      This just isn’t true… How male lions interact with the lionesses in their pride has absolutely no effect on whether or not rogue nomads will attempt to overtake the pride. They hardly even have much interaction with the lionesses anyway outside of eating and mating.

    • @GAMMAGOMA
      @GAMMAGOMA 10 месяцев назад +18

      @goomba8170 I'm referring to what happens when a lion tries to take another male's pride. This is largely because when a new male takes over, the previous male's cubs are killed. At the same time, there are multiple recorded instances of prides turning on overly aggressive males both leading and being born naturally in it.

    I mean Scar did have the numbers (the only reason he was able to hold control) I mean hes not going to walk in by himself to take the throne by normal means,but what is interesting though is that he was able to befriend the hyena whom they just accepted cause they liked his words no doubt (good villain song btw),but in the end they just turn and eat him cause he lost his gripe and power over them it was game over for him. Also i have heard of people who live in hurricane targets,but rebuild every time cause it is their home and they grew up there,no doubt why the lionesses didn't leave. though im just surprised Nala was able to slip by the hyenas. Let's be honest; it's not that deep: He had an army of bonecrushing hyenas around him at all times. There simply was no option to overthrow him. It's really that simple.
    Sure, him lying and whatnot and pretending to be just there to fill the spot helps stay on their good side, but that ultimately played no role since they didn't know. As long as they still had food, there was no reason to leave or fight. Nothing more, nothing less.

  • @Edward-nf4nc
    @Edward-nf4nc 10 месяцев назад +49

    The main reason Scar was not overthrown was there was no other male lion except Nuka and Kovu, who were too young to mate and as Scar did not name Nuka as his heir, he was not a likely choice to replace Scar, who was also of royal blood.

    • @goomba8170
      @goomba8170 10 месяцев назад +8

      Nuka and Kovu weren’t even alive in the first movie. And even if in some alternate universe they were, their mother Zira is loyal to Scar anyway. Scar wasn’t overthrow. because the lionesses knew they wouldn’t even be able to touch him past his army of hyenas.

    • @Edward-nf4nc
      @Edward-nf4nc 10 месяцев назад +6

      In The Lion Guard we are told Zira told Simba he could not become king as Scar had named Kovu as his heir and Zira attacked Simba and Simba banished Zira and her family, and in the Lion King: Simba's Pride, Simba says "I banished you from the Pridelands. You and your young cub" and Zira says "Kovu was the last born before you banished us to the Outlands" and when Kovu asks to join Simba's pride Simba says "no. You were banished with the other Outsiders". This means Nuka and Kovu were alive during the first Lion King movie.

    This was something I thought was weird in the movie until now. In the wild, even standing pride males can be ousted, but more often killed, by the lionesses if they displease him. This happens most often in captivity, but an all-female pride isn’t unheard of when they oust an elderly or displeasing pride male. They can also drive out new males if the pride is displeased with them too, most often in defense of their children.

    Scar needed Simba dead so that way he couldn't take his place when he became an adult. However that is more of a nonstarter. Cause with Simba alive and in the Pridelands Scar wouldn't have been able to lead.
    Sarabi wouldn't have allowed it. She would've stepped in and became the defacto leader until her son was old enough and ready.
    As former Queen she not only had the experience but also the loyalty of the lionesses. Scar's loyal lionesses were not yet there, they would come later and from the desert so they aren't a factor here.
    Scar would try to assert his right to rule but Sarabi would say that as the son Mufasa, Simba was the next to rule and as his mother she was within her right to lead the pride until Simba would be ready.
    Sarabi would've continued Simba's lessons until the time came for him to take over. Though obviously the lessons would differ abit from what Mufasa would've taught Simba.
    So Scar couldn't leave Simba alive.

    That's why they sent Nala out to scout for new territory - they were planning on leaving as they knew Scar WOULDN'T leave.

    I always figured they didnt overthrow Scar because of the hyenas. Scar brought them into Pride Rock the second after he announced that he was king and you could see the fear in the lioness's eyes. Hyenas are their natural enemies and there were alot of them that they knew they couldn't fight against. So they just had to go with it
    When Simba came back, they fought probably because of the overwhelming emotions of realizing that they had been lied to all these years and everything that happened in between. Plus they had Simba, Rafiki, Timon, and Pumbaa on their side to help fight too. Plus some of the hyenas may have starved or left since there was no more food or water left. Also the Pride Lands were completely destroyed with everyone starving so they didnt real have any other options. Fight and hopefully win and rebuild their territory or you just lay down and starve to death.

    • @PhantomChibi
      @PhantomChibi 10 месяцев назад +25

      This is just my own personal theory feel free to correct me if I'm leaving out anything. If we think about the correlation between how Mufasa and Scar ruled, there is a very obvious level of respect and submission to both. I'm sure the herds know and understand that lions are the top of the food chain (and so naturally accepted them as royalty), plus I'm sure they understood what the circle of life is that Mufasa has explained to Simba and just had no choice but to accept it's their fate to be hunted since a lion's primary prey is them. Mufasa however was obviously a very good king who cared about his kingdom and who lives in it, and so the herds have never left and most likely liked him. Simba may have adapted to eating insects most of his life but it's not something a lion can just accept eating as they've always been natural meat eaters and have hunting instincts.
      Now with Scar, the difference there is everybody was forced to respect him despite him being a awful king that practically left their home very barren and dry and looked practically like a graveyard. And this time, the herds eventually left and I think maybe due to constant hunting or maybe treating them horribly and they grew more fearful of him over time. They also maybe gave up hope since Scar had no heirs so they just decided to leave for a better life.
      And so in the end, when Scar dies and Simba claimed his rightful place, all the greenery came back and the herds have returned again. I assumed Simba must have found a way to convince them all to come back, perhaps through Zazu since I doubt sending a lioness would be too risky. And it's obvious they managed to accept Simba and Nala as acceptable rulers. I didn't mean for this to be this long but I hope this made sense lol.

      The answer is because this is a movie, a Disney movie. All the animals are not friends in the pride land, but they know their place. This is clearly shown in lion king 2, when every group of animal banded together to sing: he is not one of us 🎶
      In this movie tho, it’s just my thoughts that all the animals needed to bear witness of the kings cub out of respect(in their world) I also want to believe they needed to know who to look out for at a later time lol

There was fire in her eyes, even when the new king told her that lie about happened. There reason that she and her pride would have find the truth. Made her son the true king, because I believe she loved her son and know that he wouldn’t have done such horrible thing. If you see the original lion king, you know what I’m talking about. Mufasa was King, Scar being his brother was next in line should something happen to Mufasa but Mufasa gave birth to a son meaning they were the prince which made scar quite bitter and angry as he would have some youngster ruling over him instead of being King himself. This much was clear to me even as a small child. If I remember correctly scar even mentions something about that in his tidbit with Mufasa when Mufasa squares up to Scar asking if it's a challenge when Zazu says "you should of been first in line" and Scar simple replies "I was first in line before the little hairball was born"
