As a golf instructor who has tried to debunk a lot of the crap, that i have done and been taught early in my career. What an amazing explanation!! So concise and just an great job of communicating!!! Your a young an up and comer teacher! Stay the course you will help change the industry!!! Going to have to fly out and watch you teach some day!
You fella’s keep delivering. Learning to understand this is the key to understanding how the bump and squat truly occur in transition phase into P5. Forget the rotate the hips advice all that does is lead to early extension and excessive tilting (in my case).
For me a combo of focus , coach driven, on passive arms and training the independent movement of pelvis and thoracic took me down a rabbit hole that only now after a year of worse golf I’m slowly extracting myself from. So big shout out to you.
I've been rebuilding my golf swing over the last few years, because when I was young and flexible, I could sort of get away with no lower body movement. I've heard rotate, rotate, rotate...so what do I do, spin out. Every video from you all resonates with me, finally makes sense. Between this video and the one about inactive scapular movement towards the body's midline, I finally feel like I'm close to putting it all together.
You said the greatest truth: the correct words build the correct mental map about the movement. The ability to find the right words is what separate great teachers from bad teachers. People that say that golf is easy is the few lucky people that receive the right words and convert them in movement easily.
Another great lesson! I have been letting my left knee drift towards the target on the downswing. I think this going to help my low point stability greatly!
I can just hear Sam Snead saying from high above, "Finally, someone gets me!" This is indeed a myth-bust but more importantly this is absolutely the best, clear explanation of what ACTUALLY goes on in an ideally athletic golf swing, as in many other sports. Proper kinesiology is universal. THANK YOU guys, keep up the great work!!!
Milo explains this exact topic, sounds like you’re on the same page. The one caveat as you said actively externally rotating the trail leg is not optimal however actively holding the lead leg in adduction is probably even more detrimental I struggled with that which caused knee issues until Milo helped me fix it. In your demonstration at 6:16 your lead knee stayed too internal and it caused inside ankle bone low strain on inside of knee I experienced. How about allowing the lead knee to work out naturally as you drop and as you explained the knees will separate passively dropping the ball or basket not actively rotating external with the femurs.
What a superb job of explaining the part of the swing that has always been murky for me despite having done in person lessons with the extremely talented Riley Andrews. I think I now have the proper tools to add efficient speed and power to my swing. Many thanks to Riley and TJ for delivering this concise lesson to us. Kind regards, Tom
That was absolutely brilliant!!! No, I'm not a bot just because I say exactly the same thing about all your videos 😂. I'm 74 now and have played since I was 50. I've a keen interest in technique but I've never come across the central concept of this video despite my constant research. I love your scientific approach.
You knew I would be all over this one. I never understood how GG got any traction from forcing his students External on the lead Femur? The Core (Rib System) acts on the adjacent upper & lower supporting systems! Obliques and Lats work the Pelvis and the Pelvis provides support for the Internally wound Femurs. The Sacrum Falls toward the lead Heel that re-plants forward of where it started. In this action the Right Drafts nicely Behind the Left. Get that right and the whole system becomes a Slingshot. Great stuff Gents..
Thanks so much! However, truly not looking to call out any coaches in this video. We hold George in the highest regard as he has changed the face of golf instruction for the better. His players get better, he cares about his students and the game, and he's a wonderful man. We're simply expressing our preference of movement in this video, nothing else. AND we completely agree with your assessment of slingshot!! So fun to feel the loads and unloads! It just feels so good lol
Wow comments are worth reading, you mentioned dropping and replanting lead heel closer to target, that’s a light bulb moment for me right there, thanks very much 👏
Respectfully this party instruction could confuse some. Especially any that clears hips a bit later. I do see ur point for some struggling to hit clean shots
I love the video of Francesco Molinari working on this on the range a few years back. Exactly what you guys are talking about. Revolutionized my game seeing that. You guys are the 🐐 s, keep it up!
Loads of different ways to coach it and make players better, that’s for sure. Definitely not looking to call any coaches out here, just speaking to our preferences 🙏
Ive just stumbled on your channel and now going through the rabbit hole. Great content! I asked this question elsewhere but i wanted to get your take on this. I’m starting to experiment with my wrists at address. Do you promote left wrist ulnar over radial at setup? Should i even be focusing on the left or should i focus on the right wrist? And is that wrist setup the same throughout the bag? (For context i have a bit of a strong grip, left thumb just slightly right of the middle of the shaft)
Good question... proper grips at address will have some amount of ulcer in both the lead and the trail wrist. The amount of internal or external rotation in either arm is what denotes the amount of 'strength' or 'weakness' in each hand at address. Neutral grips will have roughly the same amount of internal/external in each arm at address, in essence, they mirror or counter one another in order to make them 'neutral'
Did this at the range and flushed irons immediately. I found that the chest flashed as the club was thrown out. Am I missing some active chest rotation in doing this?
Video request: how the toe of the golf club is supported through the hit, what kind of forces you have to apply. Since the sweet spot is eccentric from club shaft, it has to be supported, otherwise face goes open. Probably a reason a lot of people dont get club face closed, because this is one of only sports where the strike is not in line with the shaft.
I it’s my biggest issue right now, I’m supporting the shaft how I should, but haven’t trained by brain how to support the club face with torque in my hands. Sort of how you hear people saying twist the club through impact, but I don’t want to flip the club face, I want it to still be stable.
To my last comment, basically hockey stick is an extreme example. The center of the face is way off of the shaft, so you gotta support the golf club like you would support hockey stick when you hit it.
Oh for heavens sake… this is not a stab at any coach at all! We are simply talking about our preferences. GG is absolutely one of our favorite humans and we owe him so much! He changed our industry for the better 🙏🙏
Tbh we love us some Gankas! He’s a wonderful man and coach. Definitely not throwing any heat at any coach in this video. Simply talking our preference in movement and sequencing. Glad you enjoyed!! ❤️❤️
In my humble opinion, any piece of information that helps further ones understanding of the golf swing is great. Creating connections between all those golf neurons. Great stuff, and much appreciated! Please keep it up, best golf content online, and maybe the only truly system-based approach! So nice to avoid the teacher-trap of only presenting disconnected little "miracle fixes". Unique! 💪🚀

It should absolutely NOT be prevented from moving, however it will still be moving internal based on the femur and pelvis’ interaction ❤

Sure do!

GG and Elite talk about a LOT of the same principles and they've noted several times they aren't taking digs at him or his players.
Elite , The pelvis only goes down and up . The ankles , knees, torso chest spiral down and up . Ground forces in the pelvis are down and up .
