  • We finally made it to Alaska! After 2 days of Sailing on the lovely Discovery Princess we have arrived in Juneau.
We have lots of content of the ship to come but this vlog is to show you what Juneau has to offer, no matter what ship you come here on as the aim of this video is to help as many as you as possible if your cruise is due to dock in Juneau.
We arrived here at 2pm and most of our day was spent on a Whale Watching Tour (it wasn't meant to be lol) and a visit (a very wet one) to the Mendenhall Glacier. We booked this Excursion directly with a local tour operator and will leave the link down below:
    Really hope you enjoy guys
We booked with Juneau Tours for our excursion and highly recommend them - www.juneautour...

This video should be mandatory viewing for anyone thinking about Alaska. First, to set reasonable expectations. And second, to show people the proper attitude to have. Well done.

The tail of the whale is called a "fluke" and each one is as unique as a fingerprint. Naturalists use pictures of flukes to identify them. Several years ago, our family went on its first whale watch. We had an experience that the crew described as "epic" and assured us does not happen every time. They were right. It was as if we saw a lifetime's worth of whale sightings in that one trip. I'm enjoying your videos of this trip and can't wait to see the next installment.

We couldn’t get out to Mendenhall or walk out to Nugget falls, same thing no time. The ice has receded quite a bit since 2014.

If you are going to Icy Strait Point, you will almost likely see whales while in port - there are often one or two feeding in the bay by the ship. If you can get on it - Glacier Wind Charters is awesome and frequently they see whales, humpback for sure, and possibly Orca/Killer whales.

Gutted for you, but you've got the perfect attitude for these sorts of things nobody's got any control over. We're heading off that way next month and have a similar whales and glacier trip booked so I'm hoping we get either at least better weather or better sightings, but if it's cold, wet, and grey then we'll still have had a great time. We have seen whales off ships before around South America but we're ever hopeful that we'll get something closer and more majestic in Alaska. I had to search for your previous glacier experience just to compare it, and that was a good laugh. If you do want to get up close to a decent glacier, then Sólheimajökull in the south of Iceland is a good one, but you're always going to be at the mercy of the weather, of course.

You have brought back so many memories for me with this. I absolutely loved our Princess Alaska Cruises, we did two, and I still had sight at that time, so thankful for that. On one we did a helicopter ride over the glaciers , landing on the glacier, meeting the Husky Dogs, there were puppies there too that we played with, before then going on a. dog sled ride, it was out of this world. We also did a brown bear tour and got to see the bears and also Salmon swimming up the water etc. For the brown bear tour, we got on one of those little planes, and landed on the water - it was all just absolutely amazing. Our second one, we did the cruise and also land stay, at the Princess lodges, and boarding the train with glass roof going through the mountains to the lodges ..gosh, Ill stop now, could say so much more.
