Great tips! My favorite was the "Repeat people's name back when meeting them" because I have a very short memory and problems when it comes to focusing, so I have start repeating people's names from now on! Starting a new job as a bartender tomorrow and to be honest I am feeling tense. The beginning is always the hardest part and I wish I could just fast forward like a month when I'm actually able to work fast and know all the drink recipes from my mind rather than look at a recipe.
What you said brought me 10 years back when I was lousy figuring out how to be more professional in the most simple ways. Yes these are simple, but these are precious than gold. I am glad I had time watching this.
All these tips are great! Had many jobs over the past years and starting a new one next week, always great to get a refresh of these tips right before starting a new chapter! If I can give one extra tip that I miss a little in your video is “having the right body language” and “remEmber to SMILE” :-). A smile can help you, even when you made a mistake or forgot about one of the tips! Good luck everyone!
I've had this job for a month but tomorrow is the first day we return to the office after 18 months of remote work (or so I'm told) and these tips are still really helpful, thank you so much!
Started my first job yesterday and got a terrible first day. Basically I'm working breakfast as a waiter in a hotel. We were told there were 60 people for breakfast, cool that's not too bad, there's 4 of us so we should be fine. The problem is that 30-40 of those people decided to unanimously come down at the same time. Thanks to this, I was in charge of cleaning and preparing the tables for EVERYONE by myself. Today wasn't too bad though since there were 120 people, but there was no more than 6-7 in at a time and there was 7 of us working.
@@verynaomi went well, your hole saying peoples names out loud when introductions happened kinda saved me, good advice even for a blue collar job like this one.

Im still in college. But I decided that I should try kick start my career and work in the field which im studying which is Marketing. Today is my first day of working at a marketing firm and I am FREAKING OUT. I decided to lessen the financial burden at home thats the only thing that I am trying to focus on because its going to force me out the house. Im too old to want to work and more of a I have to work. Like even if I have a crap first day, its nothing thats in my own hands. Even if this job sucks. Survival is the main goal. Sigh I really don’t want to go. I know u said u take a lunch box but I cannot fathom eating anything. I haven’t even had breakfast because I know I will vomit it all out because of my butterflies. Wish me luck
Im done few jobs before but still nervous thats why im here 😂 first time working in a country which use fully english in their daily conversation, im dead but still want to try!!!
I’d recommend dressing on the conservative side at first, then you can determine how other people typically dress at the office- but a nice blouse and black pants are my go-to with a blazer in case it gets cold! I have a video on my channel of some of my go-to outfits for work which I think would be considered appropriate for management!
If your new job is receptionist and your reception phone has a cordless phone linked to it, get acclimated to that cordless phone ASAP. The office manager will not care about the circumstances surrounding a bungled call transfer to him/her (like being in the middle of an “how to close up shop” instruction session in the break room where you find out first hand the reception is bad) even if the caller was only an employee from the job placement agency that got you that job and not a client of the company. If the office manager hears you bungle that call on just your 2nd day, you are OUT.
