Penetration should have been one of the biggest bands of the Punk Era but unfortunately they were overshadowed by far inferior bands. Moving Targets was one of the great albums of the late seventies. And Pauline was FIT !!!!!
Saw them 4 yrs ago with little big sis in lewes con club brilliant. 6 month lost sis 2 cancer so thanx Pauline sister ad pic with still got it. Miss sis fakin big time😔
I bought that Ibanez Explorer from a shop in Durham when I was 17....used it for a few years and believe it is still owned by the lad I sold it to in Durham...
Woolwich Poly, 1978(?) - Penetration, Buzzcocks - talk about spoiled for the night. Little did I know, my future husband was in the crowd!! Oh, the memories ...!
I shot pictures of them on their tour of the states back in 1978 that can be seen on the Penetration website. One of the better bands of the time. And yes, she is still amazing today.
Second live song by Penetration, this time from the Reading Festival in 1978. With the addition of one guitar, the band was beginning to leave their punk roots behind, a move which angered some of their punk followers. But they went on to produce some really excellent, accomplished music in the Moving Targets LP (1978), an album that still sounds fresh today. After Penetration folded, Murray went on to record two albums as Pauline Murray and the Invisible Girls.
Reminds me a bit of the gits who I saw in 93, they played the Richland hoedown along with a pretty hardcore band called CROWN 👑! ALOT OF SIMILARITIES BETWEEN PENETRATION AND GITS
Pauline is married to Rob Blamire the bass player and they have grown up children who are in bands. Penetration still play with Rob and Pauline, Paul Harvey ( who worked with Pauline during her solo times), guitarist Steve Wallace and after original drummer Gary Smallman left in about 2010 they've had a few drummers including John Maher from Buzzcocks. One of the original guitarists, Fred Purser produced their album Resolution in 2017. 1st guitarist Gary Chaplin is alive and well.
Actually you're right: was a great time to be a teenager! The ol' man thinks The Slits were supporting The Adverts - but they mighta been on the same bill??? Loved the Tramshed, Woolwich too. Sploogenessabounds spring to mind. (Think we liked it cos we could get a late drink :D ) Oh, and mourned the loss of Lewisham Odeon too.
@Dillboy Some of us knew very well what punk was/is. Penetration were as little as 50p to get in to see at times. Then it went up to 65p, that's when you knew they were getting successful! That was at the Marquee btw.(not the clip, the 50p & 65p). It was fun watching those Genesis fans slowly become punks from one gig to another back then, many of them only got as far as a Stranglers T-shirt instead of the Genesis one though ROFL
@horselesspaul Here here, Ultravox were at their peak musically then. The train ride to Reading was murder though! Jon Foxx leaving was a total disaster.
You done too much, much too young...LOL! Just kidding! Loved the three years '77,'78, '79...all the best gigs I ever went to. And as you said I didn't realise how spoilt I was then...I was only 14 years old in '77. Take care!
Greatest eye make up ever. What a beautiful face. Ok, i admit it, i had a painful crush on her. And the way she says "Punk" at the end...soooo sexy! Wish they would play the States!!!
I always thought I was at their last gig - West Kensington Nashville in 1979 - hmmm - have to check this one - they stormed off near the end cause some skinheads got up on stage!
wasn't their last gig was at the Electric Ballroom in November 1979 ? It wouldn't surprise me if skinheads had got up on stage at there or at The Nashville as that was a Skinhead haunt at that time unfortunately.
Her eyes are simply amazing..
One of my favourite bands, lucky enough to see them live 3 times and this song is facking brilliant.

Although well intended ,this bunch came over much too serious......and missed that certain '77 anarchy chic...
Her and Poly the best punk ladies ever
Agree!
Saw them 4 yrs ago with little big sis in lewes con club brilliant. 6 month lost sis 2 cancer so thanx Pauline sister ad pic with still got it. Miss sis fakin big time😔

I shot pictures of them on their tour of the states back in 1978 that can be seen on the Penetration website. One of the better bands of the time. And yes, she is still amazing today.
Are you even alive still?

most underrated band of the punk era. i'm 20 got into these through my step grandad absolutely class!
What makes you believe they're underrated? Did you travel the globe taking a survey from every citizen of the world? Please explain.
Rock and punky rolling. With extra extra extra extra helpings of deeper humanness.

This band is massively underrated. It's a shame really.
I can recall seeing her supporting the Ramones in Manchester,
Still going strong as saw them at The Fleece in Bristol last week! Excellent gig!
Saw them down the 100 Club couple years back, doing the Moving Targets album. She sounds exactly the same, her voice hasn't changed. A great gel! :)
