Can't believe they didn't do Dream Police!! Wasn't this on their Dream Police tour?? They still kicked ass!!
Amazing! What a show! Happy to have met Robin Zander and introduced by Bobby Chouinard of Billy Squier, who gave me props as a great guitar player at the Cat Club NYC!
Wish Downed was on the playlist, one of my all-time favorites!
GONNA RAISE HELL tease at around the 41 minute mark!
@@redriderbbgun8018
Downed is a magnificent tune and Robin Zander's vocals are masterful.
The best version I've heard online is from The Beach Club in Las Vegas in May 1996. Quite brilliant.
The golden age of Hamer guitars, Rick and Tom rocking out
Hamer are still making great guitars today!
Never in the conversation as 1 of America's greatest bands, yet still on the road kicking ass
Of course they weren't. I saw them on this tour and thought they were good. Oooops this is pretty terrible and their music doesnt hold up at all. When your best songs are all COVERS that's a problem.
This footage is amazing. It just confirms what I have loved about this group since the 70's. Robin's incredible voice, Rick and Tom strumming away and Bun E in the back pounding away like a maniac. I miss Bun E in their lineup. They still rock!
I saw them at a local fair 12 years ago. I was stunned. It was one of the best rock performances I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of them.
They played a lot longer than this Redding show, as well. The longer older moody spooky tunes.
@@jamiboothe
I have to explore these "longer older moody spooky tunes"!! They're such a great band from all that I've heard from them.
Bun E. Carlos sadly missing today...his drumming Style helped a lot to make this band big
A very Happy 71st Birthday Robin Wayne Zander. Born in Beloit, Wisconsin January 23, 1953.
Robin joined Cheap Trick 50 years ago. 1974..
R & R Hall of Fame induction proves they are a great rock and roll band.
Many, many more Robin Wayne..
No matter how chaotic things got on stage, it's amazing how well Zander kept those powerful vocals right on the money.
The only singer who can sound like Lennon and McCartney in the same song...
Saw them 4 times and it was like that every time! They were flawless!
@@stephenstone8480never thought about that but you are right!
@@mariskacandice890 Thanks, Mariska!
Lord I miss these days. Back when Rock n Roll wasn't neutered like the trash we have in 2024.
I hate people say dumb S like this. Like all my old high school buddies who drag their A's to see Steve Miller Band play the sunset show at some amusement park while they complain hows theirs no good music. Plenty of great music. Infact the last couple of years there's been amazing rock and punk coming out...probably thanks to how messed up the world is. Go mow the lawn and watch Wheel of Fortune grandpa. And your probably younger than me.
@@pmbbmp Go screw yourself. As if you.. in your entitled little world.. are the only one allowed to have an opinion?!
@@rdgSWwot
I'm with you ALL THE WAY!
You and I know good rock n roll ~ he couldn't understand that to save his life! 😉❤
I was there in 79 , 18 year old underground miner with 3 mates, still remember it like it was yesterday, didn’t have a care in the world watching my first real festival, absolutely awesome x
I saw them that same year in Oakland Ca, opening for the Doobie Brothers! I was 15, the first time I ever heard or saw them, and have been listening to them ever since!
I was also there!
Did you ever imagine that over 40 years later you could see such an incredible recording of that concert?
me too bro..
Respect from Rockford!
Two rock stars,an accountant on drums, and a grownup Charlie Brown on lead guitar.
Yep love the “in color” album
Motorcycles and mopeds 😂
YES! These are my hometown Boys from Rockford, Illinois. Met them several times. No big egos, totally humble dudes. Robin Zander was my cousin's babysitter when he was 13-14. He babysat a bunch of the little neighborhood kids on Friday and Saturday nights so the parents could go out. My bestfriend's older boyfriend grew up with Robin which is how I first got to meet him. My other cousin's husband is very good friends with Rick Nielsen. Rockford is a small city so most everyone knows the members of this band OR they know someone who's friends with one or more of them!
GOAT American rock band
hahah
Huntz “Satch” Hall from the bowery boys
Four of the best to ever do it. Everyone at their peak.
Only 220 likes?! WTF, people? 😮 This is Cheap Fuckin'Trick!!!❤
Bun E totally in the moment (as is the whole band). Never plays the same thing twice. It's like he's plugged into an electric socket. I've never seen them 'live' before. This was controlled chaos!!! ROCK & ROLLLLLLLL!!!!
I absolutely go crazy with Rick's guitar sound on "Stiff Competition"!
I just adore all of Rick's various guitars, all of them unique! ❤
Probably one of the greatest bands ever
Cheap Trick are a band I've heard mentioned over and over again for years, but this is the first time I've properly listened to them and fuck me - I've been missing out. This is class. I'm obsessed with the drummer, what a legend.
Never too late! He's retired guitarist son now in the seat
You cannot be any more Rock or Punk Rock than this. Cheap Trick, greatest American band ever. BTW "Power Pop" does not exist. Thanks for posting!
Back again!
And again and again and again and again and again .....
I LOVE CHEAP TRICK! ❤
Always liked and picked up on Robin and Tom's smart and elegant fashion sensibility.
Ho's know!!
The reception they received in Japan even before they landed was unprecedented. The frenzy they stirred up over there was only equaled to that of the Beatles landing there in the 60's. Cheap Trick has a sound that is unique unto themselves w/ anthemic riffs and vocal pairings underlined w/ a sublime sense of humor !!
CT and Van Halen were the two major rock acts of the late 70s that stopped rock n roll from dying. They kickstarted a new era. Great post. Thanks!
Yes but u forgot a certain Aussie band starting with A and I would also include
Judas Priest, Motorhead and UFO from England.
The Cars
Blondie
Agreed! my 2 favorites also!
Cheap Trick sucks azz one of the greatest bands ever HA HA 😂 had like 2 good songs
There were plenty great rock acts in the late 70’s that were just getting big. Foreigner, Journey, Thin Lizzy, The Police, Tom Petty, AC/DC etc.
American rock and roll songs stand the test of time love cheap trick ,
brings back so many memories, better times
Since I Want You To Want Me a fan. Literally dreamt about seeing events like this. See Cheap Trick in their prime is so easy nowadays. Thank you to all technical developers since 1979.
Thank you for posting this awesome concert.
I’ve seen them 21 times!!! My favorite band, EVER & Robin is Mister Class!!!!😍😍😍🏁🏁🏁
This how I will remember them .
I was there 17 years old they were fantastic
Me too, I was 19
Back again, I can't get enough! ❤
Just saw Cheap Trick a couple of weeks ago in Omaha NE.... From back then to today it's no wonder they are considered one of the greatest bands in rock n roll history. They are just so good, wow, I can't even find the words... so damn good. Robin Zander had skyrocketed into my #1 favorite vocalist spot for a few decades now and he shows no signs of being knocked out of his position. I've been on a CT high for months after seeing them twice this summer.
Soooo. Yeah. This needs to be spread across the world. Need your love. Holy shit. Beginning to ending just rocking. There’s no one like them. Talk about a wall of sound by the guitarist.
I was there! A week short of my 20th birthday. I went NUTS for Cheap Trick!
Lucky!
Me too
Can't believe this was 43 years ago,and me being 22 years old and virtually on the front row of this set.Great memories of a time long gone from a great band who are still performing ❤
I'm from Chicago. Saw them at a local bar when they first started out. I've probably seen them 25 times since then. Still jamming today as hard as they did then. KICK ASS BOYS.
Haymakers ?
What a great watch!
All band members are superb, and not forgetting Tom Peterson's vocals on I Know What I Want!!
Peak Cheap Trick....but this was the UK, so not overly surprised if they weren't appreciated as much as they should be!
My first concert 5-20-79 Jacksonville Florida civic auditorium, Cheap Trick with support from the rockets. I was 14... Changed my life forever..🏁
I seen the ROCKETS open for BLUE OYSTER CULT iN 1979, ON THE "MIRRORS TOUR"...
what ever became of the ROCKETS???
seen CHEAP TRICK afew times, last time was a couple years ago when they opened for AEROSMITH in CLEVELAND, OHIO...
2 GREAT BANDS AND 1 OF THE BEST SHOWS IVE EVER SEEN...
LOVE ME SUM CHEAP TRICK AND OLD AEROSMITH!!!
2 OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE BANDS!!!
THX 4 THIS GREAT FOOTAGE AND UPLOAD🤘🤘🤘
Robin Zander is unreal
This was the day of my 21st birthday. What a day we had.
A Tight Talented Old School R&R Band. Great live Saw them 3 times in
Mind Blown. Thank You.
One great live band and this captures them near their peak form.
That Flying V is a 1.5 million $ guitar now.
Bun E is the shit.
Rick's tone is impeccable on this recording. and Bun is on fire
All the while Bun E smoking
Love the cig in the mouth and nonchalant drumming style of Bun e
Amazing footage. Thanks for posting. Awesome.
Amazing Cheap Trick is still touring today ❤
Cheap Trick and Rush at the Auditorium Theater Chicago 1976 🎶🔊
I was there. I worked with the promoters . C. T.'s 1st album. Rush 2112.
@jimfritz2087 1976 was a time no one heard of cheap Trick except ROCKFORD
@@bigal05171957 They played all over. We saw them once at Haymakers in Palatine.
Would love to find that online. It was my first time seeing both bands. Cheap Trick got booed off the stage by the Rush fans. But I liked them!
I was there with a friend, I don't remember the booing off of CT . I liked them in the show , they had been doing shows downstate Illinois near my home and I had not gone to see them at tis time. We were there for Rush who played a perfect concert and CT did impress some . I did see CT play their final two shows at a bar in Champaign IL' .
Robin Zander: The bionic throat
i love Bun E. !!!! 4 underrated musicians ... great band .. live .. great image , music, longeviety ,... hardest working band out there , for years .. Robins voice , tone, range , and note holding ability , Tom on the 12 string ... bass... backing vocals, Rick is one of the greatest power pop songwriters ... and dark ... but , i love Bun E. ... the cigarettes, the time keeper ..
You didn't mention Rick's phenomenal guitar playing ❤
Robin Zander was so freaking sexy! I used to be kinda obsessed with him as a teen 😊
They forgot to mix in any bass....what gives I wonder? All mid range and treble, no bottom at all. It's still a cool view of the past. Just a a healthy dose of bass would have made this exceptional. Damn!
Yeah, I just can't believe the bass was overlooked, or forgotten or whatever the case was!
If proper bass has been mixed in, the performance would've been phenomenal! ❤
Need your love here is just something. This whole show should be released as a live album!
That was CLASSIC! I just saw them a few months ago and they still rock but this show was special.
Beautiful beautiful beautiful beautiful beautiful
Saw them at Legend valley in Ohio in 1979. They kicked ass then and over the past decades. Wow!
Definitely awesome......
No weak links in this band.
awesome old school
Back in the day when Bun made 'em swing.
What a set list.
I was in the crowd on this day in 1979.
The crowd sounded so unappreciative and kinda dead, were they?
Great show here thanks!
One of the best to ever do it
Fantastic live act! Rock n roll used to be good, kids.
During the song Need Your Love, Rick Nielsen is playing a 1958 Gibson Korina Flying V.
In 2024, these guitars are valued at anywhere from $100,000 to $500,000.
It's my opinion that Rick Nielsen has the largest and most expensive, most sought-after collection of guitars rivaling only Joe Bonamassa.
Just stumbled across this - awesome! Can't believe it's so long ago - my first rock festival aged 16
Awesome. I especially like that guitar solo!
The producers of the original live show recording should have added more crowd sound and added a little more reverb to cheap tricks' singing & playing .
Like they did at The Budokan - sure, maybe A.I. will sort that out
Thanks, haven't seen the full thing before
Frick'in Robin... what a voice!
Мощно, энергично, здОрово!!! ⚡
Really fantastic!
Wow this is really good to watch, I am a veteran of Reading Festival but my first visit there was 1981 so I missed this with Cheap Trick.. However, this does show how good Reading Festival was back then...
Never saw them live but have enjoyed their tunes since they hit the scene. Especially their live at bodakan album.
No wonder I choose to live in past 😂
Love this!!!
Rick Nielsen. Good man. Awesome guitarist.
I was there
Fucking hell I was there fantastic gig
This is they're best
I would love to see any videos when Cheap Trick played clubs in Rockford …
They were cool as you'd imagine 🌿 way back in the70's.
I seen 👀 cheap trick in 1979. World 🌍 festival concert. I was 17. 😁
Thank YOU!!!!
Peak Cheap Trick !!!
I was there !
Long live BUN!
And Day Tripper was played as encore, with Dave Edmunds joining them.
They are a Trip live 1979&1985
When I lived in Milwaukee, Wisc. I seen them 3 or 4 times and proudly wore my prism Cheap Trick belt buckle and people use to call me " Little Trick ".
I've still got that belt buckle! Never had a belt for it, though.
At one of my class reunions, I went with my best friend from 5th grade. She and I loved CT since then & several people came up to us, seeing us together & said, "it's the Cheap Trick girls!" Nice to be associated with these guys. They (along with Stevie Nicks) proved to my parents it wasn't just a fad...
Go bun e..!!!
Awesome! Thanks for uploading ❤️🙏🏻
@🤘🤘🎸 🎸
@@karenroberts6435 i know it's surprising of a reply. How are you?
Robin Zanders bodyguard took me back stage and took my camera film, he said camera or film...? 😢 True story, This Show is Sick 🤢 in a Good Way, all original lineup on a very Good Night 🌉
Enjoyed. Many Toodle Pips, peepsies. Gie us a plectrum. CHEAP TRICK
ROCK’N ROLL !!!
Damn, even their soundchecks were happening!
That's how I remember them in the early days after Budokan. So loud and powerful!!!!!!!!!!! 👍❤️
Catch the Beatles bass riff in Ain't that a Shame
