Received the Cricut Joy from my son for my 70th birthday last week. After viewing your tutorial I was able to design all my thank you cards. Of course the first two were horrendous but once I got it together (clicking back & forth LoL) I was able to get all the cards completed. Thank you 70 times over. :)

Three yrs later comment….just started using the Joy I’ve had for maybe a year….now I want the Joy Xtra for the sticker capability. But just a comment on the cards. As a regular card maker using die cuts, stamping, stenciling, etc., I have to say the Cricut cards look a bit plain to me. But for someone who doesn’t already have all the tools and supplies to make the more sophisticated and time-consuming cards, these are a good choice for something quick and easy and cute. I just ordered the card mat so I can practice on some Dollar Tree card inserts. And I really like that I can have the Joy write an inside sentiment. That’s really great! Thanks!
Thank you, I have had my Joy for a while and have not really used it yet ( I have the explore 2 that I use all the time). Looking forward to card making.
If you attach the sentiment and the rectangle in design space it will remember the placement when you go to make it. This way you don’t have to adjust it. You can still hide the rectangle after you attached it. Also you can choose the card size and change it before you make it. I noticed you didn’t change the card size you were using. If you select the measurements of your card you can place the sentence much easier and make sure it’s centred.
Just a tip for seeing your exact card size in the preview, you can choose the Material Size from the menu on the left. Then you can actually see how the text will look on your size card! Great tutorial!

Hello Ms. Bethany...I can across your channel today. I received my Cricut Joy for Christmas 2020 and used it for the first time for a Birthday card for my DIL. I have had a Cricut since they first came out with the Personnel Cutter, way back when. Then I upgraded to the Air 2, but my brain is challenged when it comes to technical things, so the Joy was the way to go for me!! I knew it could do all the things that all other machines could do only smaller, quieter and less brain fog...I look forward to learning fun and new exciting things for kids to make. I have a 7 year old granddaughter and a 3 month old grandson. My girl is very crafty!! Take Care xo
Oh, so wish I had seen this tutorial before doing my first card! But, am so glad to see it now. You are the very BEST teacher ever and I mean that sincerely. Whatever kids you taught were very much blessed by having you with your kindness and how clearly you describe and the demonstrate everything. I did my first card on the outside first and it was a very intricate cut. Just as you said, it almost got demolished trying to get it out of the card mat, but finally got it out with no tears! YAY! Hi Bethany, Love your videos. I have made about 30 cards on my Joy and if you turn the card mat over and carefully peel the card front from the mat it works the best for me. I haven’t ripped one yet and I have done some pretty intricate cuts. Keep up the great videos!

Ha ha! I think it's an easy mistake! Check the other comments, as others can mentioned a certain button to click to change the card size to help with that! I haven't tried it yet, but will once I get back to crafting.

If it’s a Joy premade card, the Joy will ask you to load the pen for any writing that will be on the card. Then you will put the blade back in to cut. Design space will walk you right through it as you make your card and let you know when the pen is needed. Hope this helps!
Yes, I believe you would just rotate your sentiment in the Make It screen. Do you remember in the tutorial when I centered my sentiment on the mat before sending it to the machine? You should be able to rotate your sentiment by clicking and dragging on one corner. Hope this helps!
Thank you for this helpful tutorial Bethany. One thing, when you do the writing you could have selected the size of the card for the one you want and then not have the problem with the centering of the text. There are two choices and it defaults to the larger size which is too long and too wide for the insert cards.
Sandra Lock Hi, Sandra. I believe that if the machine is connected via Bluetooth once you select the design and the mat you can look to your left and see the mat size. If you click on it you will find two options and can change to the smaller mat.

Hi David When I choose the card mat it then changes screen and I don't have the option to change the card size. Am I doing something wrong ?
Sandra Lock Hi, Sandra. I believe that if the machine is connected via Bluetooth once you select the design and the mat you can look to your left and see the mat size. If you click on it you will find two options and can change to the smaller mat.
