Beautiful hat and very well explained! I am only on row 15 but seeing all the tails inside, I already know what I'll begin to do now and *always do* with my next projects. The tails are overwhelming to look at and actually, weaving them in now at row 15 will give my hands a nice break from repetitive movement. Tails. Ugh. Cute on puppies but so annoying to me when I crochet. Thanks for yet another gorgeous pattern tutorial, @CrochetbyJen 🥰

Love your tutorial but I have a question. Rows 17 & 18 are suppose to be increase rows. Row 18 can’t be correct if you’re suppose to end with an increase. Is that an error or do you put a single crochet in the last 3 stitches?
Yes row 17 and 18 are increase rows. Row 18 will end with 3 single dc in the last 3 stitches. Thank you for your comment. Sorry for the confusion.

If it helps, my row 18 ends in 5 single dc in the last 5 stitches (109 stitches) and row 20 ends in 4 single dc in the last 4 stitches (124 stitches).

I don't have a 4.25 hook. Can I use 4.00 or 4.5
Either, if you gonna use smaller 4.00 mm hk you need to add more rows. Measure the top of the hat 6 1/2 inches and the height is 4 inches.
If bigger size of hk you need to lessen the row. Thank you for the comment 😊

I'm sorry I suggest to use smaller hook( 4.00 mm ) or you can stop increasing when you measure the top of the hat into 6" only. Thank you I hope it will help. Have a nice day!
I made the hat top to measure at just a little smaller than 5" (16.5cm). Perfect fit. My head size is 54cm. I also did not have the 4.25mm hook nor 4ply yarn (only 3ply yarns available where I live) I used 4mm hook and added 2 increase rows after Row 7. Try making at 5" instead of 6".
