- Crochet Granny Circle Bucket Hat
Tutorial for confident beginners and beyond!
Must know how to slipknot, chain, double crochet & slip stitch
Abbreviations:
Ch: chain
Dc: double crochet
St: stitch
*asterisks*: repeat
Pattern Notes:
Traditionally the granny stitch is 3dc in a each space/gap. In this tutorial we use this method and for some rows we do 2dc in each space/gap. To get the granny stitch look with the holes in between, we crochet in each space/gap (after the 3dc clusters or 2dc clusters). This is not to be confused with crocheting in each stitch.
Materials:
100% acrylic yarn/medium 4 weight
5mm hook
Scissors

For those needing to increase the base of the hat, this is what helped me:
Repeat Row 4 exactly as shown in the video.
Then for the next row repeat these steps: use a size bigger hook for this row and lighten your tension just a little -> ch3 2dc in same stitch -> ch1, skip 1 gap and 3dc into the next gap -> ch1 skip gap and 3dc into the next gap.
Do this all the way around.
This will flatten the top of your hat slightly, it will not be completely flat and perfect but it will look very good in the end, trust the process.
Hope I could help some of you out!
full written pattern:
(each new round is worked into the gaps of the previous row, either cut your yarn, or slip stitch over to the gap)
rnd 1: magic ring, ch 4 (counts as a dc and ch 1), [dc, ch1] 9 times, sl st into 3rd chain
rnd 2: into a ch1 space, ch 3, dc in the same space, [2dc] in each space, sl st into 3rd ch
rnd 3: ch3, 2dc in same st, [3dc] in each space, sl st into 3rd ch
rnd 4: ch3, dc in same st, [2dc in middle stich of previous 3dc cluster, 2dc in next gap/space] repeat, sl st into 3rd ch
rnd 5: ch3, 2dc in same space, [3dc] in each space all around
rnd 6-15: 3dc in each space
brim
rnd 16: ch3, 2dc in same space, [3dc in middle stitch, 3dc in gap] all around
rnd 17: ch3, 2dc in same space, [3dc in next gap] all around

Thanks this was quick to make up about 1.5 hours . Had to move down to 4.5mm hook , I think 4mm would be better for me I crochet very loose . Thanks again
Now that was the easiest and simplest bucket hat I have seen thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us 😊😊😊
I'm so happy with my results!!!!.... I love how u quickly tutorialized (I know that's NOT even a word, but that's the only way I could describe how you got thru this without a bunch of words to confuse the hook out of a beginner crocheter. Thanks for the tutorial.... I made this bucket hat in 5 hours and I was rushing because they were goin on vacation and asked me if I could make a bucket hat them in record time!... I took on the challenge and it was completed so fast I didn't even get pics of the finished work!.... I have some the progress I was making but none of the finished work. Thanks again!!!... You're a gem...... Keep Up the good work......p.s. I've also subscribed to your channel
Finished in 2.5 hours, perfect fit for me with a 5.5mm hook ! The pattern was easy to follow, and was EXACTLY what I was looking for, thank you !
So glad to see someone who holds the needle the same as me!! Love this tutorial, I'm sat here halfway through a shawl but this is 100% next on the to-do list
My favorite tutorials❤straight to the point! Thanks! Super fast and so EASY!!
Hello everyone! I just wanted to say I’m order to make a bigger or smaller sized hat it’s about the amount of stitches on the first row that creates the circle. For an average Womens size head it’s usually 12-13 stitches to start off. I hope this helps you.
Thank you for the tutorial! May you give us a clearer description on how to increase the crown of the hat? I think this is the comment you are referring to when people ask but I was under the impression that you can only increase by adding an increase row. Not necessarily the starting stitches. I appreciate your help!
I just started to learn how to crochet, and this tutorial was great! I made my first wearable item, and I'm so geeked about it. Thank you so much for making this!

Love it. Can't wait to try. Thanks.
somehow made a baby sized one,, good thing im nearly four months pregnant lol
did you use the same crochet hook or a smaller one? I didnt know that crochet hook size matters and started with a 3.5 hook and realised its too small so i bought a 5mm hook
Maybe you are pulling your stitches too tight
This comment is so funny 😂
YOU ARE TO TO FAST AND YOU DON'T EVEN TELL HOW MANY ROWS THERE IS WHEN YOU STARTED THE HAT FORGET YOU I WILL LOOK ELSE WHERE.?🎻🎻🎻🎻😃😃😃😃😃😆😆
How did you go about the baby size?

Just came across your channel. I have always wanted to make one. Thanks for sharing and look forward to your future videos. ❤
Can’t wait to make one I love all the bucket hats you make 😍😍😍
Thank you
Omgoodness! This is adorable! This is definitely a Childs size tho, Mine turned out the size of toddlers head, adorable tho!
For those that are having trouble, I was also having trouble in the beginning so instead of doing 10 double crochets I did nine since the chain four counted as one double crochet chain one and I was able to get 30 stitches at the end of the round. for the rest. Just make sure you pay close attention and you should have no problem.
Omg thanks this helped me soo much!!!!!❤

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 beautiful
Finally I made it.
Made the hat ❤❤❤ it thanks
Good luck with your new channel! You got another sub! ^_^ Wonderful pattern!
I didn’t care for the wavy brim so I did more rows of dc in which I did four dc in each stitch then 2 dc in the next all the way around. The next row I I did 5 dc in each stitch around and then 2. So it’s first row 4 then 2 etc all the way around then next row it’s 5 dc 2 dc etc
Nice. This was easy, but I was to lazy to get my 5mm 😂😂 it’s smaller and tight😂 fits a kids head prefect though 🤷🏽♀️ used a 3.75mm & started a 4.25mm at row 11.
Shared ya out great job!
im currently making this right now (havent finished but i think its gonna be great) although my wool is thinner so i have to do more rows for the top of my head. i probbaly would have to either way because i have a really big head and ALOT of hair lol
This is a great way to do summer hats but I think it would look better in cotton yarns.
Cotton is fresher!
That's what I think too
Thank you for your instructions. It is super. Perfect-
I crocheted the hat. Unfortunately with yarn, the measurements. Were not right. But I've never had such perfect instructions.
The brim is not good for my yarn, too wavy and short, but the hat is too long. You also have to think and experiment.
Thank you very much.
Oh wow, I LOVE this hat...turned out simply adorable and will make many more for gifts! Thank you Very much for sharing your pattern, and a very good instructor
🌺Perfect🌺
I LOVE THIS SO SO MUCH. I made like 8 of these hats already haha! What would you recommend changing if I wanted to make a kids sized hat? Thank you ❤❤
U could try to use a thinner yarn😅❤
This is so cute!!!
❤ this hat I made quite a few but dont know to post on instagram for you to see.
Thank you for sharing this. I just subscribed to your channel.
Gracias❤
I’ve made two that came out PERFECT!! Tried making a bigger one by repeating row 4&5 and it’s not coming out right 😢. Going to try just using a bigger hook. This pattern was super simple to follow!! Thank you for sharing!! ❤
i had to trial & error to figure out how to make it bigger and what finally worked for me to add a 6th row was to 3dc in each space and then ch2 between spaces!
@@elliemrosehi! Do you think the 3DC CH2 will work if i'm gonna add a 7th row and so?
@@elliemroseDid you do to that to all rows or just the 6th row? Please help
Love the hat :D If I just use one color, does it fine with just 1 roll of yarn like yours?
Very nice
Hello, I made several of your hats. How would I make the brim to go more out?
What is the pattern for more rows at the top
Thank you. I love this pattern. But as you can see in the comments, you left us all hanging after you measured the circle! You said we could add more rows but never told us how. My beginning circle only measures 5". What is the pattern sequence to add another row or two? Thank you!
I think you would repeat the increase row that is two in the space and two in the middle stitch
And then when you get to the desired measurement of the crown, you can repeat the three dc cluster for the hat.
I too am confused. I tried to do the one row of increases and then other regular and it just came out wavy. If anyone has a better tactic plz help!!!
Same
@@delphiphoenix9024that didn’t work for me. It came out wavy and curled upwards when folded.
