What if I use a 3mm or a 5mm hook? It'll have a big difference right?

I used 3mm yarn because i didn't like the outcome of the 5mm yarn since i didn't have a 4mm, but yeah it did make a big difference but I still like the look of my 3mm crocheted yarn hehe looks detailed but kinda too much work

Typically this happens when the stitches are too tight. If you’re already finished with the piece you could try blocking it (soaking it in water and laying it out flat to dry) to see if that loosens the material a little. But otherwise try adjusting your tension while crocheting to make looser stitches.

Haiii, hope I can help.
R3 : (inc (increase), dc1 (double crochet1)) rep (repeat)
It mean you keep repeating this process : increase (double crochet 2 times in 1stitch/same stitch), double crochet 1 stitch and repeat the process = inc, dc1, inc, dc1 and go in till the end
R4 : (inc, dc2) rep
So for this round : increase, double crochet at 2 stitch
So it look like this : inc, dc, dc, inc, dc, dc, inc, dc,dc and rep till the end

I've made several of these hats and somehow they are not all the same size. I used the same type yarn and the same size hook each time. You don't give any stitch counts or measurements. I have followed the directions to the letter. For example how many stitches should I have at the end of row seven and how many inches should it measure. I have 76 stitches and it measures 6 1/2" across. . Why does it end up bigger when I know I'm doing it right. Thank you. I am not a beginner, I have been crocheting for over 50 years.
