Who remembers racing with the HPI RS4 with a Dodge Stratus body ?? I used to race touring cars in Ripon California Ripon RC speedway right around 2004 some of the best times ever 😁✌️ thinking about getting back into it they're still there!
I do feel that you are right. Fun doesnt equal money. But if you have bleeding pockets and you loose it hurts real bad. Sometimes getting into something start off at the bottom as you learn more from others as you go along. Thanks again gents!
30 years ago I made the mistake of thinking more the car cost the better you would do. Now after a break of 30 years i am now enjoying my kamtech Mini leass than a £100 and it came with wheels and tires just shows more money you spend the better is always the way.
I remember running a schumberger ty9673556.1v2 back in the day. It was ok but decided to trade it in for a traxarse b654566 which handled much better in the air.
I bought my schuey mi4lp from new, I'm still running it, it's still competitive. I did have a shop at the time so still have plenty of spares for it, but my best, most successful car was the associated tc4.
I always thought the AE cars were really solid, as they have a long history in on road racing with many wins under their belt. Better said that on road racing was AE's bread and butter. It's a shame to not see AE coming out with new touring, F1, and pancar kits nowadays.
Take a look at the Destiny rx10 3.0 at £465 from Zen too. Great chassis, new release, getting good reviews and at the cheaper end of the 'premium' range.
Cheers Andy Thought we had been quite thorough with our research but it just goes to show that there are lots of cars out there we are spoilt for choice.
Good stuff as usual chaps, and good to see you trying out some new TC's. Sounds like you've made your choice so good luck with the cars. Just wanted to give a mention about the Destiny cars too, sold by Zen Racing in the UK. I have their previous generation 4wd TC, and have been running their Frontie in the BRCA 2wd Nationals. Really nice cars and sit in the mid range price bracket. Their latest TC has recently been launched and comes in at a reasonable £465, and has all the modern features that you'd expect - Mid Motor, Ali and Carbon chassis versions, Carbon wishbones etc, etc, etc. Worth a look for anyone watching that is also looking for a new TC or Frontie. Good luck, and hope to see you trackside sometime soon!
Cheers Adam, we will be sure to check them out as it is yet another brand we have not been aware of. This video is just a snippet of the cars and brands available today
Xpress also make the xq2s. Competitive chassis that comes in under 150 quid. Also can get a mid motor conversion. I’ve only had mine out once this year but a few choice upgrades and it should be a better car. Just have to make my driving match…. But the team powers cars look like a great budget option!
Agreed, I got a X2QS and it's great. Made a A final on my second outing with just a stiffer spring set and anti roll bars. Parts are cheap and readily available and there are significant upgrade options. I would guess the next version will be mid motor which would make it a no brainer if the price stays close to where it is
What do you guys think of the XQ2S? I’m considering this chassis to dip my toe in. I’m currently using a Kyosho Fazer as my daily fun runner and I’m pretty sure the track snobs will laugh me out the building with that car 😅
My Brother nephew and son all run team powers cars. 2 have the non carbon one and my bro has the carbon one. I can tell you, if you get either of the two cars you mentioned, you'll not be disappointed as they are mega, especially for the money.
Nice informative video guys, yes your right it can be expensive and we all make mistakes but that's how you learn about how the hobby works and how you know your limits, top work 👌⭐⭐⭐
Often you can buy a used “last years model” of the best touring cars very cheap in clubs. Some drivers always buys the latest and greatest (especially XRAY drivers as a new model comes every year) and sell their used car cheap. I would recommend that for a newbie 👍
I am looking at getting into racing. Originally I was looking at 2wd buggy racing but it is expensive in Australia, after watching a bit of your channel I've decided to go with the Tamiya class TT 02 as I can get into racing a lot cheaper and as with the off road clubs my nearest club is still 1 hour away so that stays the same.
I'm making this journey a bit differently then you chaps. I started off bashing. I'm starting to go a little smaller so I can run it at a local track (1/10th,2S limit) so I'g going to be running an SCT. I've wanted a 911 GT3 forever and realized they are just out of my budget so a scale version might be a bit easier on the old wallet. I just pre-ordered the newly announced Tamiya 992 GT3. I started thinking, do I want to just roll with the body that came with the Tamiya but skip the TT-02 chassis and just mount it on a nicer chassis...like the Race-Opt you showed. It looks badass and seems to offer loads of tunability (not that I have any clue on how to do that yet). I am handy with a screwdriver and good with math and science stuff so I should be able to pickup a rudimentary skillset quick enough. Is this a good idea or have I been smoking the wacky tobaccy again?
We have done a lot of tamiya racing and the tt01 tt02 platform is a great way to get into club racing … it will depend on what they run at your local clubs as to what is best . We do like it when the cars look like real cars … another reason why we like the iconic cup so much
I run the TT02 TYPE S. Keeps up with the 'proper' chassis albeit hard work. I've got a TC4 FT from when I raced 15yr ago which would likely do far better, but scarcity of parts is one reason to not run it. The other is that it's great fun taunting someone who paid almost a grand when your set up cost less than 250 including electrics 🤣
Love this. I went the same route. Have a tt01r and found it way too sloppy for onroad touring car. And on the recommendation from my RC club, I picked up a SNRC R3G. It's a much better car to drive and really good to learn on. We run them in a 21.5t class. Also, as a beginner learning about basic setup on this car is the same as the higher end chassis. Cheaper to fix crashes too.
Very interesting but do not forget the TRF420X contains two chassis (Ali and Carbon) where as the others contain only 1 chassis. Plus if the big difference with 1/10th Tamiya will holds it value. Look at the TRF419XR, you can sell it for close to £600 now. Best advice i could give is just buy last season car. All the drivers chasing lap time tend to get rid of their old cars - so you can pick up a second had one last season at half the price of a new car (not tamiya as they never get cheaper).
I think Xray and Awesomatix spare parts are noticably more expensive than Tamiya, so you'll probably not get to enjoy that difference in price for a long time if you start racing. Not that it matters, as tamiya is pretty much out of the racing scene, I think its mostly xray and awesomatix out there on the top. I'll have to agree with the popalong crew about the cheaper cars too, theres not much advantage in buying a high end touring car, if you're not good enough. Good driving lines etc, will bring you a lot better times on the track, than an expensive car. Get the top end models once you start to get closer to the fast drivers in lap times with your economy model. I bought a TRF420 on discount at a store for 280€. Still havent put it together. I'm kinda enjoying my TT02sr and truck racing at the moment.
The Schumacher MI8 is a fantastic car, only slightly biased being a team driver 😂. It's a UK designed and developed car with a large UK team all around the country. Xpress probably do the best budget cars and have a UK team, I've seen the Team Powers cars and the quality is definitely below par so I wouldn't advise them. Schumacher will be having some new budget TC cars coming out but do not have any ETA, probably won't be until next year most likely.
@@PopalongRC they are more budget friendly with updated features.. 👍🏻 I just got back to TC after 10 years..last TC I had was T3 but now the price has skyrocketed.. 🤣
Hey guys newbie here, if u as a beginner would wanna get into touring would u guys recommend used chassis? Ive found old e.g. tc7 chasis for like around 100€! Do you guys think they would be worth the money? ive they are in good shape and operational ofc 😂
We have picked up a few 2nd hand cars and it is definitely a cheaper way to get into the hobby.. only risk is you don’t know what you are getting if buying online. Can be good to go to local club and buy from someone there as they can talk you through the car .
@@PopalongRC fair points, well maybe i will keep my eyes peeled and pick something up :) Ive seen alot of tc'6s and tc7's, is there still good supply on spare parts? and can they still keep up with newer cars? Ty for the help :)
A we’ll set up car can keep up with modern cars… it’s all about marginal gains … can’t comment of spares availability though. Often depends on what bits you need and where you are located
What if I just want a solid on road awd car for out door use that handles well, I will be going over relativly rough asphalt and concrete. I still want an on road car that is fast, but I dont think I need carbon fiber, I still want the adjustability of these cars but without the cost or fragility of carbon are there even touring cars that fit this description? Are touring cars good for this or should I just go for something like a 4tec vxl type car.
Still have my Tamiya M03 which I run at the Iconic cup events and also have a Tamiya M06 which I’ve raced indoors. Fun cars and relatively cheap to maintain

I'd just buy a Tamiya TA05 or TA07- TA08, and shim it up, seen someone racing 1 against modern touring cars and it put up an amazing fight👍
Another good option … these cars look great with the TRF hop ups
I bought my schuey mi4lp from new, I'm still running it, it's still competitive. I did have a shop at the time so still have plenty of spares for it, but my best, most successful car was the associated tc4.

I run a 3racing advance 20m great tc car 13.5 spec is the best class imo
We used to run 13.5 but on our local indoor tracks they are small so think 17.5 might be better for us

I’m sure at 17.5 theywill be but might struggle as the cars get faster

@@PopalongRC yes, I would think that will be their next release with the indoor season just around the corner

What about a Mission FT with a 4wd conversion? Just a thought!
We have been looking at the ft to run as a frontie… rather than convert if you want Schumacher it’s probably best to get hold of the Mi8
