      Yup. The Black Winter, also known as Fimbulwinter, he destroyed the previous cosmos and Galactus is supposed to be his herald.
      Galactus freaked out and asked Thor for his help and imbued him with the power Cosmic to help fight against him.

    Thor is… interesting. Its weird, his stories and the concepts they present are super interesting, but the majority of his villains are boring. Gorr? Amazing! Enchantress? Boring. Loki? Depends. I think he works best in big, existential stories like the one where Black Winter is shown in because it shows the gravitas of his actions. But he feels SUPER out of place with the Avengers, especially now. I love the new Thor figure, and I’m glad they reused the body for this figure. I hope we get Rune King Thor though soon!!

    2) I like Thor stories when done well, but he's up and down. Walt Simonson's run in the mid-1980's was life-changing for me as a kid. Solid review as always, thanks! 👍

    I would say there's no need to size compare to figures outside of the reviewed figure's scale generally. Like there's no need to show MS Cap next to ML figures because he will obviously tower over them since he's 1/10 scale instead of 1/12.
    Having said that, there should be exceptions for larger characters that could potentially still fit in a 1/12 scale display. Great examples would be MS Hulk and Titanium Man, who look very good in ML collections.

    With the more muscular figures(big forearms and bulging biceps) can you get more range with a double joint? Won’t the musculature get in the way? And does a double make the arms too long or not really because normal people won’t pose figures with arms straight down ?

    • @AnthonysCustoms
      @AnthonysCustoms  8 дней назад +4

    I for one love the look of the hair (articulation impediments notwithstanding)! I have zero familiarity with the character and no particular affinity towards Thor or Thor-related characters, but just going off the overall vibe of the character design and the art on the box I think the flowing hair does a lot to give him an ethereal, otherworldly feel that adds a nice bit of visual interest. I might not want hair quite this wild for any long-haired characters, but generally I don't mind hair sculpts erring on the side of dynamic.

      @@jordanscott4543 All of my knowledge for him is from the MCU and Avengers: EMH, so it's pretty limited. The only run that I've read is Kirby's. The figure looks decent enough. I do agree with Anthony about the chest being less beefy than it ought to be and the articulation, isn't what it could be.
    The cape and hammer effect look cool.

    My thing with size comparisons is i remember back in the day when you were staunchly against them because you did a measurement and its easy to just look at the numbers. For me comparisons go beyond pure height, but also show volume, color, and silhouette. Ive had a number of figures I got because it looked good and it was only a few cm different. Cool that character can be a little short. But then I get them into my collection and go "oh this doesnt look like a short character, but its proportionally smaller with all features" similarly theres been a lot of figures I didnt have the urge but then saw them next to some figure I had and went "oh wow that actually looks great and pairs/compliments really well". Plus just the vicarious enjoyment of seeing mutliple figures together. I think the urge to collect hits a bunch of different angles beyond just characters in a vacuum. Also Darwin being the freaky mascot is fun.
    I like Thor particularly Walt Simonson and Esad Ribic eras. Id want any designs from those runs. Highly recommend either reads. Still waiting on a Godbutcher Thor and this makes me want his necrosword final look too.
    The hair/cape i dont mind. The hair is meant to be all smokey and whispy, cape not so much iirc

    • @AnthonysCustoms
      @AnthonysCustoms  8 дней назад +4

      The problem with comparisons is that they are only very specifically useful. If you don't own the other figure, it means almost nothing to you. That's my argument against them.

  • @MasterSkywalker86

    Black winter....((sighs))) true form is...too big to even be a Haslab. I say that cause...He is basically this new character who is revealed to have turned the once man into Galactus and ((Sighs)) Made him his Herald. Yes, Galactus was a herald of Black Winter. He isn't Thor. It's just a form he took when speaking to Thor. I think Black Winter appears to look different to everyone who sees him. I don't know a ton about him. Just he is the one who made Galan into Galactus to be his Herald. And that he is actually much much much much bigger then Galactus but can take other forms of any size.
