    There is no comparison, the GS so much more pleasing on the eye it's insane. You could put that GS next to a Calatrava and it would hold its own.

      @@danr6175, I have owned the Spring Drive and the 8800 movement. I think the Spring Drive would go longer without needing service. My 8800 needs servicing after 7 years.

    I didn't even get to the "cost no object" part of the video before writing these comments...
    And my unaffected original thought's were - price no object, I'd go with this GS over the Tresor, as it's noticeably more exquisite in every way. But then I heard the prices. So Tresor it is. But then, as beautiful as the Tresor is, the GS is so freaking awesomely beautiful, so maybe it wins regardless. ARRGGHHH!!
    One of your best comparos ever Tim!

    For a second, I thought I'd misheard you - $29,000 for the GS? And $22-23,000 pre-owned? That's getting into Patek Calatrava/Vacheron Patrimony territory. It's a beautifully well made watch, no doubt about it, but you'd have to be a real fan to choose it over either PP or VC.

      @davidr2802 6 месяцев назад +7

      If you make a $100,000 a year buying a +$20,000 watch is going to be most probably be a binary choice with a real emphasis on head over heart. If you make a $1,000,000 a year you can most probably afford to buy what you love rather than thinking I should have gotten a Patek because that is what watch youtube universe would have said I should.

    • @aaronw4537
      @aaronw4537 6 месяцев назад +4

      I agree, the price is (or was) pretty steep. Then again you probably get more hand finishing with this GS than with any "entry level" PP/VC and additionally I think it is much more attractive.

    • @mols0n
      @mols0n 6 месяцев назад

      maybe on the dial but not on the movement. he even mentioned the movement was machined. entry level pp/vc movements are machined but the final touches are all hand finished@@aaronw4537

    GS charges an arm, a leg and then some for precious metal in fact I'd wager the delta between their steel and gold watches is far bigger than any other major brand. I prefer the Omega. I like the more traditional movement finishing and that price is just too much to ignore. I also like a date and that hour feature. More practical.

    • @Melontheyoutuber
      @Melontheyoutuber 4 месяца назад

      Why would you need a date on a dress watch? Omega is played out but hey wear what you like

      @@Melontheyoutuber Why do you need a crown on a dress watch, or lugs, or a strap? Maybe the only true dress watch is no watch. Watches are played out but hey do what you like and dictate what you like to other people.

    I didnt think it was possible, but I actually like the simplicity of the Omega over the Seiko. ( In this instance only, other Gran Seiko watch faces for the win) However, the finishing of the case is superior in the Seiko

    I have the both Grand Seiko and Omega 8800 caliber watch. I can tell you GS has superior quality, more precise and better looking watch than my 2022 Omega De Ville Prestige and the SMP 300M Diver! Grand Seiko is another level compares to an Omega in horology. I would compare GS with Zenith or JLC in terms of movements precision and with A. Lange Söhne, F.P. Journe, AP or Patek in terms of finishing and the overall quality especially with their sub brand Credor!

    I have that Omega in yellow gold. Very nice watch; runs at about +1 s/d. I prefer to have a date and love the time-zone function.
    The case and dial on the GS is more attractive, but the movement is ugly.
    I am not sure which I'd choose, money no option, but I don't think I'd pay the $10k premium.

    It’s hard to compare a “Limited Edition” watch model to another watch that is a regular run model because the former can’t ordinarily be sourced whereas the latter is readily available. And in the case of the Omega, not only is it readily available, but you can get it one of several versions to suit your tastes. Don’t get me wrong, I like the GS, but its run is already over with, and so comparing it to a regular-run model from another brand is almost an exercise in futility.

    For me, a power reserve indicator is much more useful on an auto-wind than on a hand-wind watch. I have a G-P Seahawk dive watch with power reserve indicator that I can go weeks without winding. Sometimes, I may have had it off my wrist for more hours than I remember, and I like having the power reserve to tell me if it needs winding. If I'm wearing a hand-wind watch, then I probably know when I last wound it and I know how often it needs to be wound. I don't need the power reserve indicator to tell me to wind it--I'll wind it, anyway.
    If it's just about the date vs. the power reserve indicator, I'd take the Omega over the GS.

    GS is nice and the deployent clasp is a big win but the Omega is damn nice and so much cheaper. An easy choice if money is no object but that's rarely the case so the Omega for me as it's at least attainable pre-owned.
