  • What's up RUclips Family! This video is kind of a follow up to a video I did a while back about the Yamaha MT-09 being my first bike. I absolutely love this bike and have learned a lot in the past year and a half. I know I still have a long way to go but I just wanted to share my thoughts with you all. Thanks so much for watching. @@cricedaking1 I've had the 2015fz09 for 3 seasons. Been riding for 35 years. Lots of the old KZ and Suzuki big 4 cylinder bikes. This lightweight 3 banger pulls harder than any I've had. M4 exhaust and PUIG screen. No flash. Wasn't needed for the slip on exhaust.
I dont really want more than 132mph on this style of bike anyway. By far the most fun bike I've ever had. I have a 2010 FZ6R as well. So I can choose a different way to go on different days. I think torque more fun than crazy top speed. Never did wheelies on street before. Hundreds of little ones on the FZ. Like any other bike - take to get used to how it handles. No 2. Bikes the same. Would love to have the MT10.
In a perfect world we'd all have at least 3 bikes on the garage. Dual sport too

Some people think my Ninja 300 is too slow to be fun. For how I ride, it's perfect for me, just as your MT-09 is perfect for you. Good luck in this crazy world. Ride safe and stay healthy.

I ignored my salesman and bought a 2017 Kawi Z900 as my first bike, 29 months and 25k later and I'm still good to go and pushing my limits and improving my skills. Remember our uncle pushing this is your safety ☝️? Well this is the new safety 👊! Getting into that zone where you can calmly sort out a situation when everyone else is losing their mind is a gift, embrace it! Good riding and rubber side down!

I've owned 9 bikes of every riding style in 18 months. I currently own a FJ-09, FJR1300 and Tiger Explorer 1200. My first bike was an MT07. After two months I regretted it immensely but I was locked into a finance plan. I rode it for 12 months and then sold it at a loss because I simply wanted/needed something faster. I now have a gixxer 750 and whilst it’s not the fastest bike, it ticks many more boxes for me in the speed/adrenaline departments. MT09 sounds like the sweet spot and I will likely buy one as a city rider and keep the gixxer for weekends.

I’m planning on grabbing an MT-09 as my first bike. I’ve grown up driving and riding anything with a motor with 2 or more wheels. I’ve read a lot of reviews and seen a lot of people mention the snappy throttle and that it’s a bike that has a lot of torque. That makes me nervous but that just means I’m not going to hop on the bike and put myself in a situation where I’m a danger to myself or others. I live out in the country surrounded by backroads to get comfortable with the bike.

It’s not that these bikes are “too much”. Anyone can ride around in rain mode and learn how to ride. People do it all the time. The issue here is the learning curve. You’ll learn way faster, and have way more fun learning to ride on a smaller, lighter, less powerful bike. So if you want to buy a cool bike, sweet. If you want to learn how to ride, go buy a 3-400 cc bike.

Almost everybody told me not to go for the 900 since it´s definitely not a beginner bike. In the end, I did listen though. I know myself. For daily driving, I will use my car and the 700 is good enough not to get bored quickly. Besides I think i do not need that extra power. All I care about is that I can ride.

@@numpty94 I understand getting a steal, just saying there's steals on 500s and 650s everywhere at least state side. SV650 is a fun amazing handling bike with some decent power and can get them all day for 4000 dollars here in great condition and it's got more than enough power to keep even experienced riders happy in the curves.
Ask any ace rider-- "outgrow" is a commonly used fallacy for people who commute and are used to a bikes power in a straight line lol when a good rider on a 400 in the track or curves will absolutely shred on a mediocre rider on something powerful.
Flip is the powerful bike something goes wrong like throttle sticking or just bad mistake and it's little room to adjust to avoid a crash. Then in the dedicated riding communities an unskilled noob on something powerful is seen as silly and a top rider blowing everybody away on a 400 is seen as badass.

    Good video, and awesome bike.
We always see the “big bike v little bike for new riders” debate concentrate on “you will die/get hurt”. Obviously that’s important but as you have put nicely, with a degree of maturity and self control, this can be largely mitigated. 2 things that I don’t see discussed as much thst I would add to the debate -
    1) we learn when we are in situations where our tools are less than our abilities. A powerful bike will allow you to use the bikes power to compensate for some degree of lack of skill - lazy shifting etc.
    2) there is no feeling like getting a new, more powerful bike. Skipping straight to a big boy apex bike like an mt10 or mt09 means you get that feeling once. Starting with a used 400 it will feel like a rocket ship as you don’t know any different. Then in a year sell it for almost what you paid and get a z650 or mt07 etc. And holy crap it feels like a rocket ship. Rinse and repeat. Years of “holy crap this is awesome” new bike energy haha.
You make good points, and I enjoyed the vid. Did not mean this to counterpoint your arguments at all, just two more things to consider.
Also, while the economy is shaky, the used marketplace is full of cheap bikes. I just picked up a 95 goldwing with 40k miles (barely broken in) for 2.5k, and I see these all the time. Got this to complement the z900 I absolutely love as my main fun mode of transport. Give old goldwings a look man!

Enjoyed the video, clearly you are more mature and responsible than I was starting out. I’m also trying to learn wheelies on my ‘17 FZ09 but the dang snatchy throttle is what makes it hard. Putting a ZX-6R rear shock really helps power it up though without losing energy from the OEM shock compressing

  • @nSquared75
    @nSquared75 3 года назад +4

It’s apparent by all of the “verbal” fist bumping in the comment section, is that the criticism was taken as a personal attack on one’s level of maturity.
That’s hardly the way to look at it. You come real close to implying that motorcycle accidents often have to do with riders acting foolish. Of course there are some. It really boils down to muscle memory and understanding not only the bikes limitations but, your own. The muscle memory portion relies on your body’s response in an emergency situation.
Smaller bikes are usually easier to deal with and gain the muscle memory for braking and throttle control in various situations, while learning your own limitations. That shouldn’t be taken offensively or to heart.

Thank you for your service. Canadian Airman here. Not everyone has a good heed on their shoulder like you sound, many don't live long after getting a bike. Reference different styles of bikes, I started on dirtbikes at 12 years old, raced them for a few years, hurt myself and didn't want to lose my primary job. I switched to street on a 2010 Ducati Monster 796. I found due to my previous injuries, the sitting position on the monster was aggravating my knee, after long rides. i got a Kawasaki Vaquero in 2015, I thought I liked cruisers, but after riding that for a bit, I'm not feeling it. I'm getting a Tracer 9 GT this summer. Still ride track with my GSXR 600, so that takes care of the fast stuff lol. Hope you like the cruisers, ride safe.

Great to hear your opinion and experience Jaye. I'm 52 and just doing my motorcycle training in the UK where we have to pass some serious tests and do some good training before we can ride anything bigger than a 125cc. I've ordered a Kawasaki Z900 as my first bike and I don't see why I should have to buy something smaller that I don't really want that I will then change in a few months and lose a load of money on. The Z900 has rider modes that can restrict the power to 55% and adjust the throttle response to match, so it can be like a Z650 if I'm not confident with the full power of the Z900 to start with.
