- Here's my original a-cappella arrangement of Sheik's Theme from OOT! It's the first song I've ever done with such a fluctuating tempo, and though it's a short theme, it took quite a while to get right. I have to admit that I prefer steady tempos for acapella projects, but my love for Sheik's Theme and Ocarina of Time motivated me persevere and complete this project 😤🙌🎶

I'm too young to be in the OOT nostalgia demographic, but playing through this game and hearing songs like this made me realize why people who played it as a kid have such an emotional connection to this game. OOT's soundtrack is full of these haunting tracks that ooze a sense of wonder, importance, and calm. It always surprises me how much a memory of a game is held or even made in it's soundtrack, and this piece is a perfect example of OOT's masterful use of music. Excellent job, I was quite moved by this cover even though it's such a short piece.

I saved up my lunch money to buy this game freshman year. Even though most kids were playing PlayStation, this game made a ton of PSX users so jealous. Good times.
Well said. OOT got me through some really awful times back in the day. I was 14-15 when it came out and depressed and suicidal from bullying in school. OOT was my escape, and probably even saved my life. It was such an escape.
I could almost feel myself in the game - it was a magical effect. ❤️

Just wait for ~20 years to pass from when you first played the game and then come back to it. You'll be in the nostalgia demographic for it then, I'm sure.

I think this track is a great example of how music sets the tone in a game. Some would think meeting a red-eyed stranger after waking up from a time skip would be suspitious, but the song puts the player at ease. This person means no harm. This is someone we can trust. And, for me at least, I feel a sort of gentle love in this near apocalyptic world. Amidst all the pain and chaos, we can feel safe whenever Sheik is around
Not the first time we’ve seen Charl’s new friend but I think we’ve never seen both cats in the same video, let alone at the same time. What a treat!

I was 8 when this game came out. I'm turning 32 in two months. This game is baked into the fabric of who I am. It's the first thing I think about when I remember my childhood. As soon as the N64 logo appeared on my screen and the Ocarina menu music hit my cerebellum, I knew everything I knew about videogames (and life itself) was about to change.
Truly my favorite tune from Ocarina. I always let her cutscenes loop over and over. So tranquil and I loved her wisdom.
This song has always been deeply moving. And today's not the first time that hearing it has made me tear up a little.
I think the first time Sheik's theme had that effect on me was the second time I ever heard it, which is when Sheik meets you in the Sacred Forest Meadow. By this point, you've not only heard Rauru tell you that Hyrule is in ruins; you've seen it for yourself. Castle Town is destroyed and full of ReDeads. Kakariko Village is a home for refugees, some of whom have lost hope. Even if you don't visit them, you can see that Death Mountain is encircled by an evil magic flame, and snow is blowing from Zora's Domain. And in the forest, since your father figure is dead, your home is overrun with monsters, your friends are in hiding, and none of them recognize you anyway. Then just when you think you can reunite with your best friend Saria, and maybe have a tiny amount of relief... she's gone.
In short, you've just found out that everyone you loved is gone or somehow lost to you. At this moment, you are completely alone and disconnected in a hostile world.
Then Sheik's theme starts to play, and when she appears, she acknowledges the bleakness of your situation, but speaks some words of comfort. I think that's what got to me, the first time I played Ocarina of Time. The world is falling apart around you, you've been tasked alone with saving it... but it turns out, you do still have a friend. And that catharsis is something that has stuck with me every time I hear Sheik's theme. In my real life now, it comforts me to be reminded that even whenever I have to take on some challenge alone... I'm not entirely alone, at least.
So, yeah. Anyway, thank you for covering this, Smooth. This song is a special one to me.

@@Jay_Jay_Guy That's been an ongoing debate for years; other characters in the game call Sheik a man, and that's how the disguise is meant to look. But since we know (spoiler) that Sheik is really Zelda, and Zelda is a woman, I generally call Sheik a "she."
(And in my personal theory, I think it would be much easier and more efficient for Zelda to use magic that alters her appearance, rather than magic that completely changes her biology from female to male. So, I personally think it makes more sense that it's still Zelda's body under the disguise. A lot of fans feel differently, though.)
@@LamanKnight Ohh, i see. i grew up with the manga, and IIRC i think it said something about Zelda using her magic to hide in the form of a man, but it's been years since i've read it, so i could be wrong. Plus, i don't even know if it's canon, so i guess it's up to interpretation

Hey! I usually never put comments under videos but i have to, just to thank you because you made a part of my childhood. I remember asking my dad to download your acapellas on my mp3 just to listen to them on repeat and fall asleep with them. It was especially the undertales and zelda ones, so thank you for making these songs that give me so much nostalgia each time i hear them, thank you.

Something about Shiek's theme really reminds me that though Link may take the appearance of an adult, he is still but a child at heart. There's just something nostalgic yet innocent about her theme. I can't quite pin down what that is but I think you nailed down most of it to the best you are capable of. It's definitely a tough song to cover vocally since the notes fluctuate in a unique manner that's difficult enough to figure out on a harp.

I remember years and years ago when my friend first showed me your videos. I was in the passenger seat and he put his phone on the center console, and proceeded to play one of your songs. This is the only moment i remember of discovering one of my fav youtubers. I was so in awe as a little 13 year old kid. Now I am an adult, and unfortunately that friend has passed away. I wish he could've saw yet another smooth mcgroove return. RIP Gabe

Just putting this one on loop for awhile! I used to have a save just before this conversation on the original cartridge, and I'd purposely not finish the conversation so it would just loop. Used it as a lullaby for weeks.

You should mix footage from many different games if they have the same song, but this song is too short to have footage from the N64 version and the 3DS version.
