Great Fairy’s Fountain absolutely sounds inspired by Bach. Credit to the guy for knowing the OG!
He might’ve been receptive to learning about Koji Kondo, but it ended up kinda awkward. “It’s a famous composer named Zelda,” is a pretty dismissive answer. You’re just assuming he won’t want to search it up later. Even old folks have heard of Legend of Zelda (Think Robin Williams.) So he could’ve been feeling like Boomer hate and just moved on.
Just respond with confidence! “Legend of Zelda, baby! By the incredible composer, Koji Kondo!” or “Ocarina of Time, a true work of art in video games. You learn and play music as a core mechanic of the game!” That’s the way to do it, and warm people up to the merits in our favorite works.

I used to play Zelda a Link to the Past on my SNES back in 1992 and have not really played another Zelda game until Tears of the Kingdom. I almost cried the first time I heard The Fairy Fountain theme playing in Tears of the Kingdom. Obviously it sounded very modern with real musical instruments but the melody was the same and immediately took me back almost 30 years. Back to my bedroom and to a better time when I was just a kid in school playing on his SNES. Very nostalgic. I love this song. Thank you for playing it.

It's crazy how a lot of classical music fans don't really appreciate great composers like Koji Kondo, Nobuo Uematsu, Jeremy Soule, Harry Gregson-Williams and the like today just because they're associated with video games. Though at least many will still somewhat appreciate movie score composers like John Williams and Hans Zimmer, but video games usually seem so ignored.
Like guys, the composer doesn't have to have died over 100 years ago to qualify as a great composer. Video games are keeping this style of music alive today and more classical fans need to appreciate that.

The stranger who sits down and plays at around 1:57 is playing a french song named Comptine d'un autre été, l'après-midi, by the composer who made that (and many more) brilliant melodies for a french film called The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain from the year 2001, original title is Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain. For anyone who enjoys the lovely background sound of Piano and could possible enjoy watching a heart-warming and beautiful romantic comedy (and not the cheesy type) you owe yourself to watch this movie and listen to the music. She likes to try new things, and do things people wouldn't think to do. I love the gnome. She also loves to make people happy so much, but she sees that someone's boss is really mean, so she takes action herself. She goes into this person's house, and changes things very slightly, like changing the doorknob from a round one to a rectangular one, or getting shoes exactly like his, but a few sizes down, and replacing his with the ones she got.

Early video game music and bach are actually pretty similar. Due to the technical limitations of the hardware, composers used a music technique called counterpoint to create rich sounding textures using only a few voices. Counterpoint was kind of perfected by Bach in the baroque period, and video game composers often cite him as a huge inspiration.

He did an amazing job with the piece. I had one friend who could play it, and whenever we were in the vicinity of a piano I would almost beg her to play it. It sounds better live, somehow.
There was one time I was visiting Boston and I walked into this like mall lobby and heard extremely familiar music playing. Some guy was on a piano playing the Build Mode music from the Sims 1. I think that feeling is intentional and tied to the origin of the song in the game. You get the song by approaching a man in the windmill as adult Link and he shares with you the song a boy had played long ago to make the windmill spin faster. Go back to the past and play the song there as child Link and you literally become the origin for that song. Which I assume ties into the song itself looping back to its own beginning. At least that's how I've always interpreted it. It's a genius piece on its own but for me became so much better with the in-world lore from the game.
