A very good song! It's about a mother who gets divorced and lets her husband take over custody of the child. They sing, you can hear the children crying...Hey hey Helen, can you do this....Must have been very difficult for Frida who just did so.Divorced and let the father take over the children while she focused on her career. She wanted to be free and realize her dreams. I wonder how many times she has thought about this now that she is older? A very emotional song.❤️😭🙏❤️

"Hey, Hey, Helen" has always been one of my favorite ABBA songs. Particularly Benny's funky riff on the Fender Rhodes piano (set to a clavichord sound). Being a keyboardist myself, it was one of many inspirations for me. I knew this guy once who was more into Rock and Roll, and the only ABBA song he liked was Knowing Me, Knowing You. And as this video, and your review of this song proves, there is more Rock and Roll influence behind Benny and Bjorn (and Stig)'s songs than just one song. Then my sister-in-law only likes The Piper. Not sure what other songs she likes, but it isn't ABBA. On many songs, they take some music element and play with it. On "Elaine" they use a "Sample and hold" waveform and play with that. "Dum Dum Diddle," and "Arrival," are two songs which feature the traditional Swedish fiddle music (spelman). "People Need Love" has the yodeling. Many of their songs speed up throughout the song. Start the song over again as soon as you get to the end on songs like Summer Night City. The entire Voulez Vous album was devoted primarily to disco. Once they had "Visited" a genre or style of music, most of the time they would never visit it again. Hence Benny and Bjorn's hesitation to ever revisit ABBA again. The new "Voyage" album suggests that they are off to discover even newer, unvisited ideas.

OMG! I’ve been waiting for you to get to this underrated epic ABBA banger! I knew you would love it and I’ll go out on a limb and speak for the ABBA-verse to your wondering how this song is viewed with ABBA fans. I’m biased because I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this song, but, I have only seen and heard positive reactions to this song whenever I’ve heard or read comments on “Hey Hey Helen”. I really enjoyed seeing your expressions during the various points I’m the song when you were pleasantly surprised. I had to laugh when you apologized for going back to the beginning of the song because I certainly had no problem with that and I doubt anyone else did either. I felt like your comments were 100 💯 exactly the same way I would describe this glam-banger and the big thing is the mash-up of crunchy electric guitars 🎸 with melody that is not usual with songs which are so heavily guitar driven. But, like you noted, that’s the genius of ABBA. They always managed to do things which were not “supposed” to be done and this is a stellar example of that. And to make this song even more epic, to no one’s surprise I’m sure, is once again the vocals which are unmistakeable and incomparable. The blending of Agnetha and Frida’s vocals 🙌🏼 elevate “Hey Hey Helen” within ABBA’s catalog which is chock full of pop gems to begin with.

Hello again dear friend GivenToe, and happy to see you discovering more ABBA songs
It's fantastic that You follow the sequence of "ABBA" album
    "hey hey Helen" (1975)
is a good rock style song,
interesting lyrics, great piano, beautiful voices and chorus
it's the second track of their third: "ABBA" (one of the three best)
here's "hey hey Helen" on a TV special in U.S. 1975 where you can see ABBA with their special costumes
the next song of "ABBA" album is "Tropical Loveland", there's TV performances of these song
I suggest these video, because included a raritie: Agnetha playing the piano

Hi Marci, well Benny was always too modest and demanding and sometimes 'inadequate' to estimate what we fans aproove.Otherwise he wouldn't have been negative on the choice of 'One of us' as a single, 'indifferent' to the masterpiece 'Move On' and 'rejective' on the tearfully missed 'Just like that' gem that a huge lot of us dersired to be reworked and released. But he's human as us.Fortunately he reconsiders sometimes ('Just a notion'),same goes for Bjorn.Of course that doesn't mean they are not two so adorable and so exceptional 'captains' of the band.

GivenToe- I just love your channel ! ' Hey, Hey, Helen', the lyrics were probably inspired by the 1973 British television series - Helen- A Woman Of Today, the 13 episodes of which aired in Sweden between January and April 1974. The series dealt with the exact same topic as Bjorn's lyrics: a woman who decides to leave her husband. The song even contains the line " a woman of today". The difference with you compared to so many other reactors is you really seem to embrace the music and react so sincerely it's a refreshing watch and of course the song is cool too. I've read recently a confession something like that the band and their team were too much on Deep Purple while doing this with their in the studio. It's admirable how they managed to unite in such a fine way,Glam hard rock dashes, pop, next to a funky interlude and Gospeli-sh vocals that were especially stressed all way through the outro.

ABBAMAN.. knew you would like this Glam Rock style song by ABBA it's a foreshadow of things to come as you'll discover down the line. It is a shame the song is a bit short but that was the length of songs back then . Over time the songs did become longer as you will see. Next up is tropical loveland .kind of back to sitting in the palm-tree vibe I would react to the EDDY Merry-Go-Round show. Benny is playing accordion and agnetha is playing the piano

Just discovered your channel as I was just about to give up on RUclips for a break.
    What's with the name Giventoe?!
I've always loved this song since I first heard it when I was a kid. I'd rewind the tape just the right amount of seconds to play it again! Great rock sound and very progressive for 1975.
There are different kinds of ABBA fans who like almost everything but prioritise different aspects and songs.
My top three would be The Visitors, The Day Before You Came and Eagle (long version)
    Others will disagree strongly.
In my opinion, ABBA were creating some of their best music in the early 80's influenced by New Wave as 80% of their 70's fans were turning away from them and their new sound and as they were breaking up as a group. What a pity they didn't continue being creative as a group even if it was to a much smaller audience 😢
Enjoyed this video. I'll be back for more!

Hello there and sorry for the late reply (I have a lot of comments to catch up with, cause I'm currently moving). The name hahah, well it's a bit covered in mystery. But I have had it many years, and since its short, catchy and easy to remember, I decided to apply it to my channel :D
This is a great song! ABBA are true legends, and they are vey special! They really are uniqe, because they can basically take any story, and turn it into an interesting song. Even daily life situations they make into bautiful songs. Yeah ABBAs breakup was sad, but also, the reunion is the happening of the century, and I am so thankful they did Voyage wich according to me is an AMAZING album! Thanks SO much for the kind words, and welcome to the GivenToe family. If you are now a Subscriber, you can officially call yourself a "Chiquititoe"!

The video is a real rarity and is from the US Don Kirshner Rock Concert in 75. In the 90's Benny dismissed the track as one they shouldn't have released and said its only merit was Janne Schaffers guitar licks. Bjorn commented it sounds far tamer today compared to the heavy feel they wanted. You also have to remember pre~1978, ABBA didn't have their own studios so they had to rent studio time in Sweden. Personally I dont agree, its a fine ABBA tune from their glam period (sort of between Waterloo and So Long). I think the ladies voices and harmonies are brilliant. This is the only time they performed the song before cameras to playback, but it was used as the opening track on their 1974/75 tour although there is no film of that, just a very rare fan bootleg of the concert they played in June 75 in the Swedish town of Eskilstuna.
