- In this video we fit a new keyfob and remote battery to the Land Rover remote control keyfob. The bodies are available to buy as an empty "shell" and you can swap all the internals over from you old keyfob to a new item. Ideal if your buttons are worn or damaged etc.
These remote controls are used on many Land Rover models including Range Rover Evoque / Freelander 2 / Range Rover Sport / Range Rover L405 etc. Авто/Мото
Extremeley useful Simon. Honestly, this was a life saver for me.
Really helpful video, thank you very much - followed stage by stage to change my old for new F2 fob. Would have really struggled without your clear instructions!
Thanks great advice ,I used nail clippers to remove the plastic nib
What a simple but great idea! 🙂
Fantastic shout. Worked wonders that did haha
I don’t think you need the superglue or the soldering iron to secure the PCB in the new case - my new case had a pad of foam in the back that secured the PCB on the pins when the case was assembled. I changed my case about 8 months ago with no issues (although with Covid, it hasn’t been used as much as normal ☹️). Thanks for doing this video.
Tks a million! Without your video I should spend a lot of time trying to figure out everything! Great job guys! 🙏🏻
Your instructional videos are blok#y fantastic born in the real world with no bullshit thanks again
Cheers Guys, just the ticket! one part of my original key fob had snapped, so this was a very useful video
Glad it helped!
Really helpful....Thank you from sydney Australia...!!
Really useful video Simon. The hard bit is definitely getting the circuit board off the black pins. I managed to grab the ends with needle nose pliers and twist them off...
Glad to hear you got the job done !
Same, I was hesitant to remove the pins, but they are very soft and easy to pull through what's left before placing the board with holes exposed now on the new fob. Works a treat! To think the LR main dealer was going to charge over $1,000 for a new main battery and key replacement. Probs an hour's labor for the key alone ( $280 ). $41 for the fob from LR parts, 5 mins of time - job done!
If you don't want to buy new tools, I think you will find that nail clippers may work nicely to snip the top off the posts.
That sounds like a good plan John
Thank you, worked a treat. 👍🏻🍏
You are a National Treasure!
Very helpful video, thank you
You're welcome!
Thanks very useful
Good work...do you do new metal slide bits though? An “Autobiography” one would be good or one marked “PowerfulUK” might be better!! 😎😎😎😎...there you are, another job in satin finished alloy lookalike stuff!! 😃😃😃Richard
I have a 2010 L322, which has none of these particular key fobs. Is there another video for those? Thanks again.
After several attempts, I was able to free-up the circuit board from the case. I would not be able to do it without you guys. Thanks 😀
Great job!
I had a shot every time you said “right”, I think I’ve damaged my liver 🤣
yes sometimes i edit out the "rights" and the "errrm's"
I don't understand why you have to glue/hot melt it in. Surely once the other half is in place it can't move?
Fair point - i guess as the original one had the board "staked" i thought i would follow the same route...but you are correct ...not really needed.
@@L663 Still love you guys
If you use super glue you will Never get that off again without breaking the circuit board or the remote body pins
Good point..
Yes, it did seem to me Simon was intent on ensuring it never came apart again. Let's hope it outlives the car! ;-)
@@rafflesnh As the car is not on the road and mostly used for development I think we are OK
@@L663 the orange disco isn’t developing much Simon 😉
@@dantheman7370 Big plans afoot ... we are going to re occupy one of our old units and fit it out as full workshop with 2 poster ramp ! this will help with the Orange Disco !
I bought a 2011 Range Rover HSE and have had it for years, but my battery died, and I can't seem to find where to buy the key "blade" part of the key fob to even get into my vehicle. I have the key fob itself; I'm just missing the manual blade. Land Rover says they are on backorder. I ordered one three months ago, and they still haven't processed the order for the key blade. Would you happen to have any suggestions?
what year is the freelander
where is the link to buy please
What are the Key fob frequencies for the different countries?
Looking to get a spare programmed and want to make sure correct frequency. It is for a L494 Australia
I know the UK is 433 and most Aus stuff is the same as UK but you need to check
@@L663 would calling JLR direct help? I will find out and get back
Whew... you had me worried when you were trying to cut the plastic tab when there is an IC right in your path if the blade slipped or cut through...
Come on Alan .. this is me .. i live life on the wild side !
Is this suitable for replacement for freelander 2 facelift models?
Yes this suits Freelander 2 facelift also

No need to use glue.
Also you maybe pleased to know the big fat key the early discovery 4s had, that was the same as the 2010-11 RRS and the 2009-2012 l322, you can remove the enternals from those and fit them in these new type keys with just a small bit of nail filling the corner of the circuit board.
I give you a shout out in my next video - thanks for the tip !
Please help
Do NOT lever a circuit board from underneath with a hard metal screwdriver when you can’t see what components are there!!
Hi 🙋♂️ 🙏🙏
Have a nice weekend sir...🗓🏠
@@L663 you too and have some rest .
Thanks 🙏
I have to question the logic behind Key Fobs of that size which Fill your pocket and you feel like a Pit Pony carrying that great big thing around with you all day as opposed to the older Key Operated type which is so much lighter and easier in your pocket !!!- Has Technology moved forwards or Backwards ??????????????
Good point - the Tesla has a credit card.
Clumsy guy 10:32 10:34
Thats me !
You don’t wanna put an iron near superglue. Stinging eyes.
As i was doing it I was thinking "this could be a bad idea" but no one would really do both ! actually looking at the comments i was probably a little keen doing either..
Super Glue!!! NEXT time you will spend hundred of pounds to get a new electronic key... what a stupid ideea
Wow, very helpful video. I was hestitant when the circuit board would not budge. The posts are designed to be broken off carefully. I found wiggling the broken post out of the circuit board works best - considering a metal tool could cause damage. I didn't use super glue or soldiering and everything seem to snap together perfectly, which explains why there are those 2 styrofoam pucks inside.
