Cannot believe how simple this was to do with this instruction video. My key snapped off and the cheapest quote I got from any company online was £169.00. This product and video saved me £150+. So grateful to you guys. Thanks a lot!
I've just fixed the key for my Insignia using one of these kits - really easy. Totally recommended. I got the Vauxhall logo off my old key by heating up a small flathead screwdriver on the hob.
Ordered the kit and arrived yesterday, swapped the bits over which was easy and very straightforward with this video. Excellent instructions - Great work guys😀
Like all the rest of the comments, this video was absolutely spot on. The buttons plastic fell off so needed a new shell. I was quoted £130 to do this and £7 and 20 minutes later, all done. Thank you so much!
I got my partner to order me this set as my buttons fell out of my old keys. Very impressed with the results. I now have a key with buttons again. Thank you for the efforts you have gone into putting this kit together and producing this detailed video of instructions.
Removing and inserting the pin was more difficult than I thought, but after fiddling around with it, I finally managed to squeeze it in. Thanks a lot for this video. It made the entire process much easier, and I appreciate the added tips, too. Thanks!
Nice, simple and easy to follow. I used the video whilst changing the fob over. Never had to go back, to re-run a bit I didn't understand either. I'm no mechanic, but my cup of tea never had a chance to get cold, I'll repeat what Harry Roman said "One of the best demonstrations ever", and I've had to sit through plenty ! Many thanks.
Just done mine. I have to be honest, the thought of taking a hammer to my key fob was a bit alarming, but the old one had lost a button and was getting flimsy. Cheapest price from a locksmith was £120. I can't express how delighted I am with it, once I got going. The blade switches in and out with ease. The lock and unlock buttons operate perfectly, and the engine starts. What more could you want? The instruction video was a God send. I will definitely recommend.
@@TheCarKeyMan hello pal. I just done this job but the button are stiff and will not press and the key doesn't pop out. What has gone wrong for me here ?
Thanks for this. For anyone having trouble opening their old vauxhall key fob to get the circuit board, do ensure you're holding on tight onto the fob whilst squeezing the external circuit pliers to break it open. I learnt the hard way and completely broke off a massive piece of plastic 😅 luckily I was able to get the circuit board out and all works fine !
@@TheCarKeyMan at first I thought it was glued shut so used a heat gun to try and melt the glue to make it easier but that didn't help at all. No idea why it was so tight, but after I broke off the plastic, I still had a bit of room to use the pliers and by holding the bottom of the fob tightly with one hand and using the pliers to expand it the fob again with the other, I was able to pry it open finally. Couldn't open it all the way though so had to turn it upside down and gently shake the circuit board out
I bought on Amazon on Saturday night, arrived on Sunday afternoon! The video is invaluable, I used a hot needle to melt the plastic on the old unit and stick the logo to my new unit! Works perfectly, 5 star review left - thank you!
I don't often leave comments on RUclips but this video is worthy of it- ended by chance buying your product on Amazon Prime after I was on your website and it said everything was out of stock, I was devastated! Was v happy to receive the key repair kit from you but just via Amazon instead after wtahcing your video. Followed this tutorial to the T and sorted everything first time and saved myself a fortune in the process, very well made video and clear instructions, thank you!
Used this guide, out of all the ones online, this is the only one which address the holding pin. Huge help, now have my reserve key back up and running, tip of the hat and firm handshakes all around!
good instruction video easy to follow, my problem was with my existing key, my 62 plate astra key did not just separate vauxhall decided to fuse the 2 halves together making it impossible to separate it took a small metal saw and pliers to separate the 2 halves being very caustious not to damage the electrical board inside took about an hour to do .
Hi Robert, yes they glue the original keys. For future reference, external circlip pliers open these easily, we use them every day . Well done for getting it open with using pliers!
@@TheCarKeyMan I'm afraid that was not the case with my old key the 2 parts were not easily separated i used long nosed pliers to try, not one part separated hence having to use a junior hacksaw to cut through the joint between the 2 halves of the key the key case would rather break some where else than separate
Thanks to the Car Key Man for the Vauxhall flippy repair kit. It worked a treat & saved me dealer hassle & oodles of cash. One word to others wanting to use this method don't lose the new case retainer screw - the last bit in the process. 🙈
Just to echo most of the other comments, great product, great price, great instruction video. Getting the pin in to attach the old blade to the new case parts the only fiddly bit for me. The circlip pliers are a necessity for opening the old fob, in my opinion; I’d’ve wrecked the PCB without them, as my fob took some significant force and several attempts to prise it open. Highly recommended - thanks again guys.
So helpful and straightforward. I was quoted £130 for a replacement through my main dealer but a blank from amazon plus this superb video demonstration meant I was sorted for £5.99.
I’ve put up with my car key being so temperamental in unlocking my car for months thinking it would cost a fortune for a new key. Just followed this having ordered the bits on Amazon and works a treat. Really easy to follow. Thank you
Thanks for the video. I ordered the astra j model before I saw this or I would have supported you. When mine came there was no punch so I used a bit of stainless welding rod. My original didn't come apart quite as easily as the one in you video, it seemed to be very well glued so I had to cut all around the outer with a junior hacksaw but thanks to your detailed video I got there in the end. Once again, thanks for posting.
Successfully replaced two key fobs. I have been putting this off for months. Thanks to the detailed instructions and the kit, it didn't take too long and wasn't very hard. I am really happy with the results. thanks.
Great video! Absolutely invaluable and, as previously mentioned, the tiny but really important detail about the old blade holder was absolutely top notch! Thank you so much. Could not have completed this without you 👍 An absolute invaluable channel, have subscribed thumbs up many thanks 😀 It's a bit immaterial not but how come the original key has no screw? When I first started the job I removed the badge looking for it 🙄
Saw the video and bought your kit. Took a bit of filing but all done and fitted together. I had bought one from amazon that didnt have a screw and didnt come with the punch. The screw felt reassuring and the punch, if you dont have one already was really helpful. I was able to get the badge off with a stanley knife, no melting required. Many thanks for supplying these kits as you do.
Just followed your guide and repaired my key in 10 minutes - and since I was quoted £50 + special delivery postage both ways also saved about £40. Thanks 😊
Followed these instructions twice and did a dummy run with watching video and simply stripping the new case down and back together easily. You need PATIENCE and care to do job perfectly and following this video is simple enough. I however removed pin with the chrome thing removed from both fobs and attached chrome bit down onto some wood with a small screw and washer and with tiny hole for pin to fall in to. Great video very very clear and good quality instructions.
Great how to vid, been living with a key with bodged buttons for over a year, thinking I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and pay Vauxhall for a new one.. Like others, my key wouldn't come apart, broke into several bits trying to split it with circlip pliers. Trick I used was a soldering iron with a fine needle head, used it to melt round the joint.. worked a charm. Big thumbs up for your vid.
Hi Paul, thanks for the feedback. I'm not sure why some cases just don't open. It's very rare that I have that problem, but then I get a lot of practice. Thanks for posting your answer to this problem ;)
Excellent tutorial. Everything went as shown in video until I had to break the original fob apart. It was a right ‘b’. I removed the Vauxhall insignia on the back,in case there was a screw like the replacement fob. Nope. So I had to expend some brute force and hoped I didn’t break the circuit board inside. In the end after a few tea breaks I decided to go Hulk on it. It’s amazing how far things ping around the room. Anyway circuit board was ok and I assembled the new fob. It works a charm. Thanks again for this tutorial and all the various comments on your board.
Just done this operation for the daughter. The garage supplied a broken spare key and gave her a new case. Unfortunately, when I inspected the circuit board, one of the micro switches was missing, so it's back to square one. Your video was very informative and helpful.
Hi. Thank you so much for your video. I'd worked out how to change the old case to a new one, but had been stuck life on how to take off the logo and put it on the new case. You said it almost as an after-thought right at the end of the clip, but yiu have NO idea how much that has been my rescue !!!!!!!!! THANK YOU 👍🏽
Mine was glued shut from years of "fixing it" temporarily. Followed your instructions for a Holden Cruze in Aus and it worked perfectly. VERY impressed, you have saved me a lot of time and money.
Superb video and service, ordered yesterday, kit came today, less than an hour (and one small injury where screwdriver slipped trying to prise old key apart!), all done and working. Saved £34 on the £50 Timpson's were quoting, and they said they'd only fit blades they'd cut! Highly recommended.
That was two months ago mate - since then Timsons has jacked up the price by no less than 20%. Today when I went back to them, they wanted £60 for the job they'd quoted me £50 on in August. So I ordered a part online for £8, and hopefully this excellent video will help me sort it out.
@@jimspriggs9217 daylight robbery, would rather use my local Independent, but whilst Timpsons get concessions in the big supermarkets, they rely on being visible and convenient, and people are daft enough to pay their prices. My repair from these Guys is spot on, very happy with it.
Omg your a genius. I took it apart ok and figured out how to change the blade but for an hour kept on trying different variations on the spring to get it tp open and you say wind twice so mimicked you positioning and all and omg it pops first time. genius on disguise and my saviour thankyou
YOU are a lifesaver.... I was fiddling with my flip out keycase for hours upon hours.... trying to figure out WHY my key isn't flipping out (whilst I WAS flipping out).... after YOUR video I realised I had to windup the spring
Bought your kit and replaced it just now, all working perfectly. Can't thank you enough!! Just a side note, managed to get my badge off with a small flathead rather than needing to use a soldering iron
Just did this on my wife's Astra 2012 Astra. The old key was glued shut from factory so wouldn't come apart easily. Figured the best thing to do was to put it on the foor on a carpet/rug then push down on one of the plier arms with all my weight. Once it popped you could hear the adhesive break. Ridiculous. The only other tricky but was the blade swap. Couldnt get the pin started in the new holder, i'd filed it back as you suggested but still wasn't perfect so filed a little "relief" in on one of the ends so you can get the pin started more easily. Once it was started it was SUPER easy to get in. Other than that - THANK YOU!! Extremely helpful video.
Hello, yes for some reason some of the cases are getting a lot harder to open, not really sure why. Maybe they were made in a different factory, so you did well getting it apart, well done. Thansk for the feedback, it's really appreciated :)
Thanks for a brilliant and straight forward explanation.... I was able to replace the key of my son's Corsa (spring was missing in the old key) and now he has a fully functioning key..... Cheers 😊
Just repaired my Insignia ignition key bit fiddly used a long nosed tweezer to hold the pin before tapping home. Great video and it all went fine really pleased. Was quoted over £100 pounds at the Vauxhall main dealer. Many thanks for the great video
Excellent. On my Insignia key fob the blade fell out, the alloy case broke. Bought a new fob with battery on line (£11). repaired mine watching this video. Fob is perfect. Many thanks.
Ordered on Amazon yesterday...arrived today and job done in under 10 minutes. Flip out of the key was slow and not very forceful after I'd finished so watched the video and found out I needed to wind it a couple of times...Brilliant video and product, saved £££'s
Spot on. The unlock button perished, fell out on Friday. Bought your kit via the Amazon link - it arrived Sunday. Your instructions made it straightforward. New key ready and working. Thank you. 🙂
Great product and excellent tutorial. Bit of a leap of with cracking open my old Insignia key. I'm sure it was glued but circuit board intact and new key works great ! Thanks.
This is an excellent guide and a great product. worked perfectly. As you suggest, getting the pin in is a bit of a challenge so I appreciated the extra info provided.
Ordered this replacement some time ago only just got round to fixing my broken key it is as easy as the man makes it look in the video thanks for helping me save money
Thanks for the comprehensive instructions. The only hard bit was getting the old key apart without circlip pliers. Managed in the end but it wasn't pretty. On the upside, in the struggle the Vauxhall logo fell out, so easy to transfer it to the new one. Thanks again.
Thanks a lot. I just changed key shell for my Astra J GTC. Unlock button on original one was held by tape, it literally fell out. Everything works great now!
I ordered mine from Amazon yesterday and it can last night, I must say I was impressed with this video it gave me great confidence. I was able to repair my key, thank you very much.
Great video and kit. Just finished the job on my sons Astra J. The hardest part was getting the pin in the blade. What I found was to use Mole Grips to hold the pin in place and gently tap the top of the tool to get it started. The balancing thing didn't work for me. Oh and you need a decent set of eyes. Thanks again
Hi, thanks for taking the time to leave this feedback. Yes, you need an extra set of hands and it’s a bit fiddly, but please you sorted it and thanks for the tip :)
Thank you for the help with this, and you’re not kidding that the factory keys seem glued together! I got one undone fine, but my second factory key is still a work in progress😅
Great video really good clear instructions. Only thing I found when I came to dismantle my key, an original Vauxhall one circa 2016, the two halves were bonded together . Had hell of a job to get circuit board out without damage.
Amazing tutorial, thanks. Hardest part was getting the original case apart without any fancy pliers but got there in the end. I used a tool meant for removing metal watch strap pins to remove the key blade pin, so if you have one of those it's a doddle. Soak the old case in boiling water for 5 mins and you can easily pry the logo badge off👍
Hi, thanks for this feedback. Yes some of the cases coming through now are getting tough to open, while others just pop open like the video. I guess they have been made in different factories. Really pleased it helped :)
My wifes key is working. Thanks. One issue I had was the black plastic pin snapped off winding the spring. So be gentle. Using the base point of the breakage I drilled it out and used the spare screw. I filed down the threads and it works fine to hold the spring in place.
Hi, did you get the case from me? I will send out another if you need it. Not sure why the black spindles snap off, every now and then this happens, but happy to replace at no cost
I ordered two cases from you and with your video the whole process when with out a hitch ! I now have two perfectly working keys so I cannot thank you enough
Fantastic tutorial. Saved £230+ and one week versus Vauxhall, £165 versus Timpson. This is for my father's car, which I have inherited - I think he'd be happy. Thanks.
Wish I'd watched you first, been struggling for 2 days, watched your video & sorted it in 20 minutes, brilliant thankyou, new fob now working perfectly 👍👏👏
Excellent tutorial. I hadn't a pair of circlip plyers and it took me an age to take apart my 10+ year old fob. Marking (but not damaging) the circuit board in the process. Buy some plyers!!!!
B....y brilliant instructional video: I'm rubbish at doing things like this, and when springs are involved I get into a flat spin !! But your video helped me sort it and save at least a £100! Many thanks indeed !
I've done this before for my Kia Ceed on both keys, now I need to change both keys on my Astra. Nice to watch just to remember how I done it and also get new tips.
Your video and replacement kit is great. However, I had a Vauxhall Astra key and both sides of the shell were bonded solid. My circling pliers would not prise the key shell apart. I had to hacksaw around the shell very carefully to avoid hitting the circuit board. Pausing your video was very helpful to ensure that I was not cutting through the PCB. The bond at the top (near the key button) was the toughest since I could not get the small hacksaw blade into the inside curve. I had to cut the metal key ring holder at the bottom and very slowly peel and cut the cover away from the pcb. I cut the and peeled to avoid damage to the pcb. Maybe using a hot blade might be better than a hacksaw. The rest was easy and in accordance with your instructions. I now have a fully restored key again. Thanks 👍
Hi Colin. When I made the video, they used to pop open no problem. They have always been bonded together, but there are a batch out there that are very tight. The only way I can describe the technique is to place the jaws into the gap as far as possible and slowly increase the power and then hold. If the jaws are snatched, then the key tends to break, on the ones that are tight. I have had a couple that are impossible and when that happens, I slowly use a soldering iron, but it can be hot work on teh fingers Glad you managed to get it swapped over and thanks for the feedback
Ordered the kit and arrived within a few days, watched the video before commencing and then whilst installing and took me an hour as I had to file the pin a bit more than was expected but got there and then getting case to click in place. To get the old Vauxhall logo off the old key, I just heated up an old sharp knife and melted the plastic and prised it off and stuck it onto the new key fob. Overall, with the help of the video it was straight forward job, just take your time. Many thanks to the The Car Key Man, you saved me a few bob 🙂
got this kit from a norwegian key retailer and this guide was perfect although i missed the tools you used although i found some simple alternatives most people probably have laying around. 1.5mm allenkey to punch through that little hole although it almost got stuck in there cus it was a tad bit too big for the hole but it came out with a bit of wiggling and most people have a few spare allen keys from their ikea things or allen key sets. and i didnt have the thing to open the key but honestly just get creative with that one because its a fairly simple task. buying the tools needed would have doubled the price of the key sets so im glad i could save that money.
I was replacing a broken key fob on a 2014/Astra. The video was great and spot on, up to the point of trying to extract the circuit board. This was held in part of the fob that was either moulded or heat sealed so there was no join that could be prised apart. The net result was that it required a combination of cutting and snipping to finally extract the circuit board. Having put it into the new body, it doesn’t work and it may have been slightly damaged getting it out. I would warn people that they may find this is the case for them.
Bought this and yes it fits! wooooo but the scariest part was taking apart my old key! sooooo careful but about 2 hours later i managed to mangle out the old chip and it works!!!!!
@@TheCarKeyMan no unfortunately i didnt have them, but the ease of opening the New key i was under the impression the old one would be just as easy! ha! one broken wine cork puller later (bent the arms)... so an hour later of SLOWLY filing down and around the shape of the chip in your video i managed to get it out (yes an hour!) i feel there should be a disclaimer somewhere about how much it WOULD cost if you break the chip!!!! i think i was extra careful through fear of a huge replacement chip!!! Overall amazing product and it fits perfectly! 100% will direct people this way if they require a replacement key housing!!! Also the fact you reply to all comments is amazing! really shows you're dealing with someone who cares about YOU and not just sales! fantastic!
Thanks for sharing this. Managed to replace my Insignia key for very little cost and fuss. Found putting the pin a bit tricky, but got there in the end.
Ordered one key and it didn't work due to the battery clip popping out when I separated it - probably my fault. Messaged the guy, he called me, realised why it wasn't working and sent me another key - all now done and working. Amazing service - thank you! Saved me lots of money.
You mentioned in your video about people having problems getting the old key open, well that's what happened to me. I have the same pliers as you but the key would not budge however much pressure I applied. I ended up running a knife down the join as carefully as I could but must have damaged the circuit board as I now have a lovely new cover on a key that doesn't work remotely.
Thanks so much for the video. When I had my first car, corsa, I tried to do this but I never could because I was trying to put the old one in the new case, there wasn't much videos then so I struggled and gave up. However, I just got a new car, Astra and the key fob is in poor condition. Ironically, for some reason, this video appeared in my timeline 2 days ago and it is a god send. I knew what I had to do. The good thing is, I already had the key fob which I brought from ebay, like £2.50 2 years ago. Only difficult thing was to get the pin removed, but I have a watch links removal tool kit which had a hole punch, smaller but it did the job. I also had to find down the metal as it was slightly too big but once filed, worked well. (Lol, literally had all the tools which I brought over the years come in handy now) Less than 1 hour, had to do it twice becuase got the battery in the wrong way round and this time it worked. TIPS: Make sure the battery is in the correct orientation, got it wrong first time so the battery needs to go in before the circuit board. 2. Do not screw it down, first test to make sure it works so go to your car and try it out. 3. Once working, then screw it in. 4. Another thing, the metal tab which holds down the battery is fiddly but it must make contact with the battery. Mine one got bent during installation and it wouldn't stay in place, battery kept coming loose so I removed the original tab from the original key fob, worked perfectly. (Keep your original fob, never know when it might come in handy) But anyway, I have a new key fob, works perfectly and the key stays in place, not loose. I am going to order a badge for the back from ebay, you can find them for around £2. But one thing for sure, if I didn't have the tool or fob, would have ordered from you as it is a great price. You should maybe consider including the badge, make more money. Edit: Went to buy the badge from ebay, it says I already brought it years ago, went to check my bag where I kept my vaxhall key fob and behold, there was 2 badges there in a envelope. I so happy that I kept all my fob, parts as this time, it cost me nothing as I had the fob, badge and tool. very lucky.
I ordered the set a few months ago but finally took the task on. It seems they have updated their sets they mail to you as the replacement fob does not have the fake key bar in it anymore (it's separate now) so that's one less task. The only thing I had to find out myself is, when I opened the fob, a small half-circle metal piece popped out. When following the video, I assumed they would show where it goes but at the end, the key was back together... without the metal piece. So I had to open it up again (no issues) and figure out where it goes. My advice here is to have a good look at the printed paper that comes with it and where you see the content laid out. On the lower half of the fob you can just make out where the little iron piece sits (though it seems to be a slightly updated (and different) piece in form as well). Then look at that part of the fob, you'll see a small slip where the metal fits in neatly in such a way it's pressed in place when closing the fob (and meant to hold the battery in place). I hope this helps and thanks for posting this great video!
Hi Marcel, really sorry the battery connector was loose. Was the key sealed in plastic wrapping? I've been told about a couple now which is a bit frustrating as the are ready sealed when I pack them. Really appreciate the kind words :)
Very happy customer here. Bought from Amazon having watched this first. There are cheaper replacements on eBay but they don't come with the tool to knock the pin out like this one so well worth the couple of extra quid. Many thanks!!
The Car Key Man hi! Great video. P purchased replacement for from ebay dealer. The case and components look exactly the same as yours. Minor differences. No instructions or explanation of minor differences in your package rear of the case has no battery compartment. There a logical path to re assembling the case so noticed minor differences in the ket shaft to my originlmy but it looked and felt close to the original key. Finally checked the site i purchase it from and there a 10 minute video of finger going through the assembly of the new case with minor references the original blade to replacing the battery, fiddling finger filling the battery an circuit board contacts. And closing the case Your. After a few attempts trying to analyse the difference the difference key heads discovered the differences. Finally found your site. I still have to fit the battery contacts circuit board every time open the case open the case So i just want to say how good your video is
That's where you went wrong Tony conroy - should have bought from The Car Key Man!! Man has the patience of a saint too responding politely after you've shopped elsewhere but used his video! 🤣
Hi Tony, I think you bought it from a drop shipper. This is where you buy it from eBay and they then buy it from us and send it to you, after adding a load of money! How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking? Thanks for all the info :)
@@TheCarKeyMan I followed your instructions to the letter, even filing the groove bigger and it worked a treat but the best part is it saved me a lot of time and money. Thanks again
Oh dear. Just gone to change my key and I can't separate my old one. It's literally snapped the corner off. It looks like it has been glued shut. Hoping I may be able to get it open with a Dremmel type of cutting disc. Update Managed to destroy the original key and got the circuit board out. Was worried I may have damaged the board. Rebuilt the key and fitted the battery and it worked a treat. Thank you very much
Hi Jeffrey, yes for some reason, about one in 30-40 can be stuff shut. It's only glue but clearly the person on the gluegun has been extra keen! Glad you got it sorted ok
Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for sharing this method with the world you have no idea how much you have helped me by making this video. God bless you and once again thank you.
Removing the logo - submerge the old key fob in boiling water and it softens the glue, then pop it off with a screwdriver. Very helpful tutorial which allowed me to fix both of my friends keys. (Vauxhall Insignia)
Bought your kit from Amz. Followed this through OK. Not exactly easy but got there in the end. I managed to get the old case open with a couple of pairs of needle nosed pliers. My instance was rather more explosive than yours and it rained bits on the kitchen floor but the circuit board made it out unscathed. I would say the final tiny screw was hard to get in. Managed to get the logo off my old fob with a pick and a blob of Loctite flexible glue has affixed it. Good as new. Overall would recommend but you do need to be a reasonably competent fettler to get this done.
Great Video and precise information. Spent yesterday following another video only to have the key fliped out. Found you Vauxhall Video lst night. Followed your instrction AND CHANGED THE PARTS. Now my VF Commodere Key is working like new again. Thanks very much for the info and the video. (Australia)
Just finished changing over the key. Absolute nightmare to open the old key as when i finally got it open, i found it had been previously glued together. 🥵 That said, the rest worked like a charm and saved me a tidy amount. 👍
very informative video, i replaced my key fob and it was relatively easy and the file that comes with it has other uses too, many thanks a big thumbs up.

Well done Cameron. Really pleased this helped you :)

Very impressed with the results. I now have a key with buttons again.

Hi, thanks for this info. It's strange because most open fairly easily, but a few are really tight and I'm not sure why
Hi Maggie, thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate ypu taking the time
I don't often leave comments on RUclips but this video is worthy of it- ended by chance buying your product on Amazon Prime after I was on your website and it said everything was out of stock, I was devastated! Was v happy to receive the key repair kit from you but just via Amazon instead after wtahcing your video. Followed this tutorial to the T and sorted everything first time and saved myself a fortune in the process, very well made video and clear instructions, thank you!
Thank you, yes I was out of the country, but I'm pleased you still managed to get hold of it from Amazon. Thanks for the feedback :)
Absolutely fantastic!!!! Was so easy to swap everything over watching this video, I’ll be ordering another key to replace my spare
Thanks Marcus, I really appreciate your feedback :)
Used this guide, out of all the ones online, this is the only one which address the holding pin. Huge help, now have my reserve key back up and running, tip of the hat and firm handshakes all around!
Thanks Mark, really appreciate your kind feedback :)
good instruction video easy to follow, my problem was with my existing key, my 62 plate astra key did not just separate vauxhall decided to fuse the 2 halves together making it impossible to separate it took a small metal saw and pliers to separate the 2 halves being very caustious not to damage the electrical board inside took about an hour to do .
Thanks! The same for me. I will try with a saw.
Thanks to the Car Key Man for the Vauxhall flippy repair kit. It worked a treat & saved me dealer hassle & oodles of cash.
One word to others wanting to use this method don't lose the new case retainer screw - the last bit in the process. 🙈
Hi Jambo, do you need a replacement?
Best video on RUclips right now ! This guy save me £70 omg thanks a lot my guy. I did this and it work perfectly.
Hi Mickel, you are a gent, thanks for your kind words :)
💯. He made it so easy. Just replaced 2 keys. Took me 15min. Thank you 🙏🏼
Just to echo most of the other comments, great product, great price, great instruction video.
Thanks James, really appreciate the feedback and support :)
Ordered the kit and swapped it over with ease thanks to this video. Great service and very informative instructions - thank you!
Hi Alex, thank you so much for ordering the ket and then posting this feedback. I really appreciate it :)
I only have a the key from inside the key fob it the key fob no longer exists was accidentally got put in camp fire
Just fixed my zafira key looks absolutely brand new wish the car looked the same😅 could not have completed this task without this video, brilliant 👍
You're very welcome Hamza, thanks for the kind words :)
So helpful and straightforward. I was quoted £130 for a replacement through my main dealer but a blank from amazon plus this superb video demonstration meant I was sorted for £5.99.
Glad it helped Ian :)
Brilliant tutorial.... did my new corsa key a treat...thanks....
I’ve put up with my car key being so temperamental in unlocking my car for months thinking it would cost a fortune for a new key. Just followed this having ordered the bits on Amazon and works a treat. Really easy to follow. Thank you
Thanks for the feedback and really pleased it works well :)
You're welcome Bob, yes sometimes the glue person has been a bit keen! Thanks for watching
Replaced keyring on Vauxhall Zafira - took 20 mins tops - excellent video and their kit has everything you need. Top marks and much appreciated.
You’re very welcome, pleased it helped you :)
Nice and easy to follow the hardest part was getting my old case to come apart cheers
Thanks Connor, yes sometimes they are stuck solid. Glad it helped you :)

Same here it broke a pair of my pliers 😂
Successfully replaced two key fobs. I have been putting this off for months. Thanks to the detailed instructions and the kit, it didn't take too long and wasn't very hard. I am really happy with the results. thanks.
That's great news. Thanks for supporting the channel :)
This is a very good video, without this is was absolutely clueless.
Great stuff, so glad it helped you :)
A great help hopefully I can apply this to my I 30. Do you deliver to ROI Dublin
Thank you!!!! That was very easy to follow. I used the key itself to help open the case and used a towel so it wouldn’t scratch it.
Great job, really pleased it helped :)
Great video! Absolutely invaluable and, as previously mentioned, the tiny but really important detail about the old blade holder was absolutely top notch! Thank you so much. Could not have completed this without you 👍
An absolute invaluable channel, have subscribed thumbs up many thanks 😀
It's a bit immaterial not but how come the original key has no screw?
When I first started the job I removed the badge looking for it 🙄
HI Graham, they just glued it originally, I guess it was easier for rapid manufacture. Glad it helped and thanks for the feedback :)
@@TheCarKeyMan
Thank you sir 👍 I guess so, makes sense when you put it like that
Keep up the great channel and take care 👍
Mine won’t come apart must be glued what is the best way to take it off i tried screw driver and long nose pliers and still does not budge.
I think my old key was glued
Saw the video and bought your kit. Took a bit of filing but all done and fitted together. I had bought one from amazon that didnt have a screw and didnt come with the punch. The screw felt reassuring and the punch, if you dont have one already was really helpful. I was able to get the badge off with a stanley knife, no melting required. Many thanks for supplying these kits as you do.
Hi Chris, I really appreciate the feedback and pleased you got your key fixed ok :)
can you tell me where i can get set for vauxhall astra h with removal key ?
they just sell thobs
Hi Lee, these will be back in stock in a few days on Amazon. Here's the link amzn.to/2yORkI2
Just followed your guide and repaired my key in 10 minutes - and since I was quoted £50 + special delivery postage both ways also saved about £40. Thanks 😊
Thanks Neil, really appreciate the feedback :)
Hi i clicked at your amazon link and would like to ask if it fits for my 2012 vauxhall astra 1.4 excite hatchback key plz? Thanks
Hello Upendra, yes it should as long as the number of buttons are correct :)
Thanks Gary, yes very true. Nice and slowly and get the job done correctly. Really appreciate your support on the channel :)
A good auto locksmith will be able to swap that switch, or do you a new key
That’s what happened to mine. I also think the key fob was welded together as we ended up having to use a hacksaw 🤷🏻♀️
Hi. Thank you so much for your video. I'd worked out how to change the old case to a new one, but had been stuck life on how to take off the logo and put it on the new case. You said it almost as an after-thought right at the end of the clip, but yiu have NO idea how much that has been my rescue !!!!!!!!! THANK YOU 👍🏽
Fantastic, thanks for all the feeedback :)
Mine was glued shut from years of "fixing it" temporarily. Followed your instructions for a Holden Cruze in Aus and it worked perfectly. VERY impressed, you have saved me a lot of time and money.
That's great Jackson, thanks for the feedback and I'm glad it helped :)
My repair from these Guys is spot on, very happy with it.
replaced my key fob today using the kit from The Car Key Man and followed the instructions from the video. All went perfectly thank you very much
Thank you for leaving this feedback and for buying the kit. :)
Omg your a genius. I took it apart ok and figured out how to change the blade but for an hour kept on trying different variations on the spring to get it tp open and you say wind twice so mimicked you positioning and all and omg it pops first time. genius on disguise and my saviour thankyou
Hi Steve, easy when you know how. Really pleased it helped :)
YOU are a lifesaver.... I was fiddling with my flip out keycase for hours upon hours.... trying to figure out WHY my key isn't flipping out (whilst I WAS flipping out).... after YOUR video I realised I had to windup the spring
Thansk for the feedback :)
I just did this for our Asta J.
Fairly straightforward and was able to use long nose pliers to open up the keys .
Great video explanation thanks.
That's great Ian, appreciate the feedback :)
Bought your kit and replaced it just now, all working perfectly. Can't thank you enough!! Just a side note, managed to get my badge off with a small flathead rather than needing to use a soldering iron
That's great news Rango, thanks for the tip about the badge and really appreciate the purchase :)
I ordered this and followed the instructions. It worked fine. Saved me a bit of money.
Thanks Steve, really pleased it helped you :)
Excellent video I have now succcessfully changed 2 key fobs following these instructions at a cost of less than a tenner, the main dealers wanted £70.
Cheers 😊
Thanks for the feedback Kenny, really pleased it helped :)
Just repaired my Insignia ignition key bit fiddly used a long nosed tweezer to hold the pin before tapping home. Great video and it all went fine really pleased. Was quoted over £100 pounds at the Vauxhall main dealer. Many thanks for the great video
Great stuff Paul, really appreciate your feedback :)
Excellent. On my Insignia key fob the blade fell out, the alloy case broke. Bought a new fob with battery on line (£11). repaired mine watching this video. Fob is perfect. Many thanks.
Thanks Michael, really pleased it helped you :)
Ordered on Amazon yesterday...arrived today and job done in under 10 minutes. Flip out of the key was slow and not very forceful after I'd finished so watched the video and found out I needed to wind it a couple of times...Brilliant video and product, saved £££'s
Hi Lloris, that's great news. Really pleased the video helped you :)

Great product and excellent tutorial. Bit of a leap of with cracking open my old Insignia key. I'm sure it was glued but circuit board intact and new key works great ! Thanks.
Well done and thanks for this feedback, really appreciate it :)
This is an excellent guide and a great product. worked perfectly. As you suggest, getting the pin in is a bit of a challenge so I appreciated the extra info provided.
Hi Darcy, thanks for the great feedback :)
Ordered this replacement some time ago only just got round to fixing my broken key it is as easy as the man makes it look in the video thanks for helping me save money
Hi Rodger, thanks for the feedback and I'm really pleased the video helped :)
Thanks for the comprehensive instructions. The only hard bit was getting the old key apart without circlip pliers. Managed in the end but it wasn't pretty. On the upside, in the struggle the Vauxhall logo fell out, so easy to transfer it to the new one. Thanks again.
Hi John, yes with circlip pliers it's very difficult. The pliers make it a lot easier
Thanks a lot. I just changed key shell for my Astra J GTC. Unlock button on original one was held by tape, it literally fell out. Everything works great now!
Great stuff Ivan, glad it helped :)
Just swapped to my new key with your kit I got off of Amazon, took less than 15 minutes. Thank you, great help 👍
Thanks Mike, really appreciate the feedback :)
I ordered mine from Amazon yesterday and it can last night, I must say I was impressed with this video it gave me great confidence. I was able to repair my key, thank you very much.
Hi, thansk for the feedback, and the order :)
Hi, I’ve found that some of the newer keys are much tighter than when I made the video.
Did you manage to get it out?
@@TheCarKeyMan Yes I did. No need. Working away. Thanks.

Hi Robert, thanks for the feedback and yes, good to keep his car going for you ;)
Wish I'd watched you first, been struggling for 2 days, watched your video & sorted it in 20 minutes, brilliant thankyou, new fob now working perfectly 👍👏👏
Hi, yes a bit tricky if you don't don't know how. Thanks for the feedback :)
Excellent tutorial. I hadn't a pair of circlip plyers and it took me an age to take apart my 10+ year old fob. Marking (but not damaging) the circuit board in the process. Buy some plyers!!!!
Hi Mick, yes they normally make life a lot easier ;)
Finally, a simple to follow, one step at a time, how to on RUclips. Thank you mate. I did it first time.
Good job, really pleased it helped :)
B....y brilliant instructional video: I'm rubbish at doing things like this, and when springs are involved I get into a flat spin !! But your video helped me sort it and save at least a £100! Many thanks indeed !
Well done, it’s always great to get this sort of feedback :)
I've done this before for my Kia Ceed on both keys, now I need to change both keys on my Astra. Nice to watch just to remember how I done it and also get new tips.
Thanks fir watching and coming back to the channel 👍
I have had a couple that are impossible and when that happens, I slowly use a soldering iron, but it can be hot work on teh fingers
Glad you managed to get it swapped over and thanks for the feedback
Ordered the kit and arrived within a few days, watched the video before commencing and then whilst installing and took me an hour as I had to file the pin a bit more than was expected but got there and then getting case to click in place. To get the old Vauxhall logo off the old key, I just heated up an old sharp knife and melted the plastic and prised it off and stuck it onto the new key fob. Overall, with the help of the video it was straight forward job, just take your time. Many thanks to the The Car Key Man, you saved me a few bob 🙂
Hi Dean, thanks for this great feedback, really appreciate it and thanks for the order :)
Brilliant! Given me the confidence to have a go myself. Thank you so much.
Great stuff, really pleased it helped :)
got this kit from a norwegian key retailer and this guide was perfect although i missed the tools you used although i found some simple alternatives most people probably have laying around.
Hi, yes 1.4 mm is perfect
I was replacing a broken key fob on a 2014/Astra. The video was great and spot on, up to the point of trying to extract the circuit board. This was held in part of the fob that was either moulded or heat sealed so there was no join that could be prised apart. The net result was that it required a combination of cutting and snipping to finally extract the circuit board. Having put it into the new body, it doesn’t work and it may have been slightly damaged getting it out. I would warn people that they may find this is the case for them.
Hi Mike, did you try circlip pliers to open the key?
@@TheCarKeyMan I did but it was definitely sealed, so whether it was original or a Vauxhall replacement, I don't know.
Just had the kit arrive i watched video and then it took 15 mins to complete what a fantastic idea you just saved me nearly £100 thanks

I can't thank you enough, clear and easy-to-understand instructions and done in less than 20 mins brilliant.
That's great James, well done on sorting it out and thanks for the feedback :)
Bought this and yes it fits! wooooo but the scariest part was taking apart my old key! sooooo careful but about 2 hours later i managed to mangle out the old chip and it works!!!!!
Well done Daniel, did it open with the pliers?
Thanks for the feedback, yes it can be a bit tricky I agree, but I’m really glad you got sorted :)
Ordered one key and it didn't work due to the battery clip popping out when I separated it - probably my fault. Messaged the guy, he called me, realised why it wasn't working and sent me another key - all now done and working. Amazing service - thank you! Saved me lots of money.
Hi Richard, thanks for leaving this feedback and I'm really pleased it all got resolved ok :)
Hi Paul, if you have my number from the box, give me a call, hopefully I can help
(Lol, literally had all the tools which I brought over the years come in handy now)
Less than 1 hour, had to do it twice becuase got the battery in the wrong way round and this time it worked.
(Keep your original fob, never know when it might come in handy)
But anyway, I have a new key fob, works perfectly and the key stays in place, not loose.
I so happy that I kept all my fob, parts as this time, it cost me nothing as I had the fob, badge and tool. very lucky.
Hello, thanks for taking the time to leave these excellent tips for everyone, really glad you got your key sorted in the end :)
Really appreciate the kind words :)
thanks for the video, order one working well ,the hard part was getting the pin back thanks again
Hi Martin, thanks for the feedback, yes a bit tricky but I'm glad you got there :)
Very happy customer here. Bought from Amazon having watched this first. There are cheaper replacements on eBay but they don't come with the tool to knock the pin out like this one so well worth the couple of extra quid. Many thanks!!
Thanks for the feedback, really happy that you managed everything ok:)
HI, I'm happy to help out whoever needs it, thanks for your kind words :)
Great video
Got me out of trouble as the buttons fell out of my old keys
Many thanks
Thanks or the feedback :)
Update
Managed to destroy the original key and got the circuit board out.
You're welcome Mohammad, glad it helped you and thank you fro the kind words :)
Removing the logo - submerge the old key fob in boiling water and it softens the glue, then pop it off with a screwdriver.
Very helpful tutorial which allowed me to fix both of my friends keys. (Vauxhall Insignia)
Hi, thanks for this tip, I'd never even though about soaking it! This will help others so thanks for leaving the comment :)
Thank you very much! In my case, stock key didint open so easy as yours. It had to cut, crack, smash cover before i get my electronic board back
Hi did you try some circlip pliers?
Bought your kit from Amz. Followed this through OK. Not exactly easy but got there in the end. I managed to get the old case open with a couple of pairs of needle nosed pliers. My instance was rather more explosive than yours and it rained bits on the kitchen floor but the circuit board made it out unscathed. I would say the final tiny screw was hard to get in. Managed to get the logo off my old fob with a pick and a blob of Loctite flexible glue has affixed it. Good as new. Overall would recommend but you do need to be a reasonably competent fettler to get this done.
Thanks for the feedback and for buying the kit :)
Excellent explanation. Sorted it in 5 minutes after spending over an hour with springs and bit flying.
That's great Dave, glad it helped :)
Great Video and precise information. Spent yesterday following another video only to have the key fliped out. Found you Vauxhall Video lst night. Followed your instrction AND CHANGED THE PARTS. Now my VF Commodere Key is working like new again. Thanks very much for the info and the video. (Australia)
Glad it helped!
Just finished changing over the key. Absolute nightmare to open the old key as when i finally got it open, i found it had been previously glued together. 🥵
That said, the rest worked like a charm and saved me a tidy amount. 👍
Hi, sounds like it was tight!
Brilliant! This gave me the confidence to do it myself saved me nearly £200. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
You're welcome Mark, thanks for watching and the feedback :)
very informative video, i replaced my key fob and it was relatively easy and the file that comes with it has other uses too, many thanks a big thumbs up.
Thanks for the feedback :)
Perfect, replaced my old mums vauxhall key following your directions. The hardest bit was winding the tension back into the spring, a bit fiddley but got there in the end. All working well. Thanks
Thanks for the feedback John :)
