    After installing the flasher bypass mod using the adjustable timing relay on my 2000 Grand Marquis - I ran into two issues that I was unable to solve. While all the outside LED's flashed as described - 1) the signal arrows on my digital dash would not blink (just stayed on) and 2) the emergency flashers would not operate with the ignition off. So I ended up unsoldering the flasher and reinstalling the two wires back to stock in the LCM connector and wiring the resistors so to provide the load to the factory thermal flasher and everything works as it should. Big thank you to Chuck for showing us how to remove the wires from the connector without having to cut them so you can easily undo.

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  3 года назад

      Right on Brian,
      When I do these LED lighting mods, I don't know if they're going to work out permanently.
      So I like to wire them up in a reversible temporary way, so I can revert to the factory original configuration if need.
      After trying out the mod for a few weeks, I'll make the decision to go back and make my connections permanent, or not.

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  2 года назад

      Right on Kreal,
      Thanks for watching.
      I've seen some of thos pre-made wiring harnesses with built-in resistors.
      1.) Sometimes they put the resistor on the "Parking Lamp" circuit.
      2.) Other times they put the resistor on the "Turn Signal" circuit.
      3.) And other times they put a resistor on BOTH circuits.
      These pre-made wiring harness are made for people unfamiliar with electrical wiring in an effort to make things "Plug & Play", and that is totally fine.
      However, how is the average person, unfamiliar with electrical wiring supposed to know which pre-made wire harness is the correct application for their car?
      It's complicated. lol

    I opted for the external flasher option (cutting wires from the factory harness version) on my 2010 Crown Vic and I love it. No worrying about resistors, extra heat dissipation, etc. The hardest part about the job was wiggling myself under the dash, and the job was done in 5 minutes.
    I went with a flasher on amazon that has an adjustable flasher speed, and it is silent. So I can manually adjust the speed of my turn signals, and I no longer hear that annoying click when the turn signal is on (admittedly the silent part took a few days to get used to, but after driving the car this was for the past 6 months I can't go back to hearing audible turn signals).

      -Chuck

    • @FlorusW
      @FlorusW 4 года назад +1

      Panzer Platform Hello Chuck! Thanks for your answer.
      It’s a 2003 Lincoln Town Car and my turn signal setting might be kind of weird, because it’s converted to meet German regulations (amber turn signal in the rear). I try to explain it: the front uses non-LEDs (the sidemarker also flashes).
      To get the rear from flashing amber instead of red they cut the turn signal/hazard/stop-wire and put a resistor on this circuit (so the LCM thinks the bulbs are ok). Brake signal has been taken from a additional brake signal switch and blinker signal is taken from the front turn signal - that’s the only way to separate blinker and brake because the original setting uses only one wire for that. To finally get the amber turn signal they used a very strong amber LED in the rear.
      The idea is getting rid of the resistor to “simulate” the two dead bulbs. I hope you get the idea. :-)

      @@PanzerPlatform it's a 2007 Crown Vic P71. I tried a different flasher, an "LED" flasher and now my turn signals and indicators illuminate but don't flash. I'm still trying to chase down my problem. I might buy another flasher just to make sure but the only other thing I can think of is I may have a bad turn signal switch. It didn't behave oddly a few times where one of the indicators would randomly illuminate. The coincidence seems unlikely but I wouldn't be surprised. I get the same condition, no blinking but they do illuminate, with the novita flasher, an LED flasher, when I plug my LCM back in and when I put the stock bulbs back in it's all the same. I would recommend not getting LED's for anything except the interior maybe. LED headlights aren't great because of the reflector housing. Upgrading harness and higher watt halogen bulbs are probably better for vision although LED's look better from the outside of your car.

    Then I saw the link to the forum post by DRock96Maquis and discovered I only have a single wire for each connection - armed with that info and along with PP's how to remove the pins without cutting wires, I removed the two wires (WR and LB), soldered two jumper wires onto the back of the pins (if I decided to "undo" later), heatshrinked the connections and installed the "electronic flasher" I purchased a while back on Amazon (searching LED Flasher). But it did not work. But after re-reading the description on Amazon - the MFR said it eliminated LED hyper flashing but if I had taken the time to read the user feedback, I would had discovered that this was not the case.
