    In other news I installed my new headlight wiring harness (good thing I won). The camera doesn't seem to pick up the brighter headlight when I left one old and one new, but I can see the difference in brightness between them with the naked eye.
    The install was easier than I thought it would be. Easier than it should be even. Which is kinda suspicious but they work, so it's all good in the hood.

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  3 года назад +1

      Right on Hollywood,
      I had the same issue getting the difference in brightness on film.
      I think it takes a camera with manual ISO, or white balance adjustment.
      Now that you have bigger 14AWG wires, and high temp ceramic sockets you're a prime candidate for high wattage halogen headlight bulbs.
      Stock wattage is 55/65.
      High wattage is 80/100.
      Guess what I might be reviewing, and giving away? lol

    Very nice. I constructed something like this myself for my old car, because factory wiring runs all the headlight amperage through the headlight switch, which inevitably accelerates its failure as the materials wear. Then I obviated much of the need with LED lamps lol.

    My 95 E350 has reverse polarity on the headlights, so when I tried LEDs instead of halogens they worked in reverse order and there was NO way I was going to have the blue high beam light on all the time, so I went back to halogen and they honestly provide pretty decent illumination.
    The eBay listing says this harness will fit my van.
    Ironically it says it does not fit my 2011 CVPI. I went with 4WDKING LED headlights and they have very little scatter so I’m just going to stick with that for it.
    Back to the van: Do you think (or know if) the Ford Vans have the same issue with the wires being too small and the loss of voltage causing similar reduced illumination like you explained it does for the Crown Victorias in this video, and should I go with one of these harnesses in it?
    Separately, I too (read through the comments) didn’t find this video to be boring, in fact I greatly appreciate how well thought out, planned out, and concisely explanative it was 😎🙏
    I’ll appreciate any insight into my question above 🙏

      I would grab some 12AWG wire, and temporarily wire up one of your headlights directly to the battery, (closest headlight to the battery).
      Then look at the side by side difference between the two headlights, and decide if the thicker wire is worth the increase in brightness.

    Hey Chuck well explained if you can please exclude my comment from the random picker if you can or if I get chosen please skip me. I know these videos take a lot of time to make even if there only 10 mins long. But I'm going to be an arm chair quarter back here. It would of been nice if you had a light meter for photography to measure the light output difference. Either way tho you did a really great job on this and I know a lot of time was put into it thanks for posting.

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  3 года назад +4

      Right on Mr. E,
      This is a great comment.
      That would have been the icing on the cake.
      I actually did purchase a LUX Meter to measure the difference in light output.
      However I could not get it to work properly with reliable results over, and over again. I became frustrated with the device, and returned it.
      I also tried to get the difference of brightness on film with my camera, but it does not have manual controls for ISO, and White Balance. I can see the difference with my naked eye, but on camera they look exactly the same because of my camera’s auto white balance.
      So I chose to present the only scientific evidence that I could with a basic voltmeter. Because anyone can replicate the Voltage Drop measurements on their car to confirm & verify this upgrade actually works with quantifiable numerical values.
      This is the kind of low production quality you can expect from my zero budget RUclips channel, and I guarantee you it’s only going to get worse. Lol
      And you can Armchair Quarterback anytime. Lol
      I look forward to your feedback.

      I plan to modify this one so I can use my own relays with built in fuses, and eliminate the included fuses.

    Hey Chuck, would appreciate any insight. Ordered a similar harness from J87 for my ‘09 MGM. Worked great at first. However one day I was greeted by a drained battery; not sure what happened, but when I jumped the battery and recharged, the headlights seemed to be constantly on, even if I turned the headlights off from the dashboard knob. Don’t think it’s the LCM because when I removed the harness and put back the original bulb plugs, it all works as expected. Any idea what it could be? I connected the harness to the positive terminal by putting the ring on the clamp bolt and then tightening the nut. Connected the grounding rings to chassis metal as instructed using metal screws. It seemed like the driver side headlight ground wasn’t quite right; noticed the screw was getting super hot whereas the passenger side ground screw was normal. Please keep in mind I’m a total novice with electrical stuff.

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  5 месяцев назад

      Hello,
      It sounds like something is triggering the relays.
      It's too late now, but that's why it's important to always bench test new stuff before you install it in a car.
      I would remove the harness from the car, and bench test it.
      If it works OK on the bench, that means there is a problem with your installation.

      During my testing I found the upgraded larger gauge wires made Halogen bulbs brighter.
      There was no difference with LED bulbs because they only draw around 1 Amp of current.
      But halogen’s draw around 6 Amps, so this upgrade really helps someone who runs halogen bulbs.
      Since I run LED’s I did not use this.

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  17 дней назад

      Yes, I tested this harness with LED bulbs, and there was no difference in brightness because the LED bulbs only draw 1 Amp of current (20% of halogen).
      This harness is beneficial if you run halogen because they draw 5-6 Amps and cause too much voltage drop causing the bulbs to be dim.
      A lot of guys can only run halogen bulbs because they need the heat from the bulb to melt snow / ice off the headlamps assembly.
      LED bulbs only consume 20% of the current of halogen so they do not get hot enough to melt snow / ice.
      If you are having a malfunction, test the LED bulbs on the bench outside of the car.
      If the bulbs are OK, test the harness on the bench outside of the car.

    Will ked bulbs fix this ?

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  Год назад

      Not sure what you mean by "ked"?
      Do you mean LED Bulbs?
      If so, I tested the harness with LED Bulbs, and I did not see a difference.
      This heavy gauge wire harness is more beneficial for halogen bulbs because they draw more power.
      5-6 Amps vs. 1 Amp for LED.

      @PanzerPlatform yes sorry. So if I buy led bulbs I shouldn't have an issue with dimming?

    Can you tell me what amp fuses are used with that system?

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  3 года назад

      Right on 308,
      Thanks for watching, and that's a great question.
      I'm suprised no one has asked it before.
      This is such a great question, I may make a video responce to address this issue.
      In a nutshell it's important to "size" your fuse rating according to the load, and wiring it will be protecting.
      For example on my car the low beam headlamp bulbs consume 4.5 Amps each.
      The manufacturer has determined to protect each low beam headlamp circuit with a 10 Amp fuse.
      I hope this answers your question for now.
      Stay tuned for a full video on this topic.

      Are you using the factory 55/65W bulbs, or will you be using the high wattage 80/100W bulbs.
      It will make a difference.
