Very nice video. Like how it has a little personality to it. Thanks!
Two things: Want to make sure I understand the situation 100%, and a suggestion for the video.
My impression is that the installed kit does not replace the existing unit, but enhances it. If I am correct, both the original unit and the add-on box ride with the car when the repair is done.
In more detail, I'm aware, like many Crown Vic owners, that the LCM is a weak point. The headlights quit working at unexpected times, the turn signals quit or work weirdly, etc. There is a whole cottage industry that consists of soldering in new relays, as many as four, into the LCM units. You can buy the relays, four, for about $20, or buy the LCM rebuild service for about $50 to $100. All over eBay.
The kit in this video appears to be sturdy relays that bypass those in the LCM. That's a guess.
A question is why only certain years were recalled, as nearly every Crown Vic / Mercury Panther Platform car from 1995 to 2005 has this issue, in my experience.
The suggestion for the video is to give an overview at the beginning of what is going to be done. Also, the steps to remove the existing LCM and its bracket were not mentioned. There is another video that covers this. The one with the hip-hop music in the background is good on this point.

Had to look it up since I've been having light issues ever since a dealer "fixed" it under recall about 2 years ago. So simple I wish I would have just asked for the part, because the dealer didn't follow the colors. Thanks for the informational video.

i know its a 5yr old comment, but IMO the AK of cars is the Willy's gen 3 Jeep.
the old ones, went anywhere, did anything (within reason), ran no matter what as long as it was maintained.
although the AK of pickups is 110% the Toyota Hilux (Technical), you can literally drop a building on that mofo and she gonna keep on keepin on.

your cloth tape looks like gaffers tape, or line tape commonly used in theater as a foot placement marker, and in many factories as a general use repair item.
quality stuff, tears a bit easier than plastic tape, but holds on real strong, and resists being abraided way better.

Thanks for posting. Very nice work. I always enjoying watching folks do things the old way - the right way. I was just searching and found this video. Not really related to my problem, but still interesting. My Mom's 2010 Grand Marquis has an issue of the LCM draining the battery, at least I think it's the LCM because when I pull the fuse that powers the LCM, the amp reading on my test meter goes way down.

I'm chasing a dome light flicker that's draining the battery and I think I've hunted it to the LCM and I'll look up information about that recall. I am also trying to find the dark mode toggle since my car is supposed to have one but after I find that, the lighting module.
Really appreciate this video, I'm super jealous of your lift lol. I'm down here on the ground with my phone on the seat and it was almost like you were rubbing it in haha.
    Cheers

We have been experiencing intermittent lighting faults for years on our 2004 MGM ls! Once in a while the lights would not function correctly, once headlights shut off while driving, never failed completely, and usually work like they should 99% of the time. We got a letter about a recall, took the car to Capitol Ford, for warranty lcm service 14N01. They were suppose to replace the lcm, but it didn't look like they replaced anything. Several years later, the tail lights failed to come on, and after a quick restart, switch off/on - the lights worked again! Then we got another letter from Ford telling us that the lcm may have not been replaced when we took the car in for 14N01 ext. warranty service the first time. Really? Wtf?! Well, that explains why the tail lights were fking up all of a sudden! My girl phoned Ford dealer service center and got an appointment, I assumed this time it was for safety recall 15S39, which is the job in the video. Drove 2 cars to the dealer this morning so we can drop off the Merc at the service center. At the counter, the service rep told us there are NO parts available to do the job at this time. Told us to wait until they have the parts in stock, then again we will be notified by mail, and had no clue to how long this may take to become a reality! What a bunch of incompetent bums! They could've told her this s#it over the phone, instead of just, "Oh yea, bring it in!" Why bother schedule an appointment when you don't even have the parts available to do this job? That's so retarded! Took it to the dealer twice for this bs and they fixed absolutely nothing! Useless! What a waste of time and pointless corespondence! Dear Ford mo co! Thanks for letting us know that it's all your fault!
Anyway, thank you for this video! Obviously our lcm problem remains as of now. The options are: to wait for Ford dealer to pull their heads out of their a$s, or locate, buy, and install the lcm bypass kit as you did in this video, or just pull the lcm and replace the relays on the pcb, use quality relays. It seems to me the last option is the easiest to take on and it promises the best reliability. Def beats dumping 100s of dollars on a new lcm. When you want something fixed right, you got to fix it yourself! Watch RUclips videos if you don't know how! Excuse the long rant and thanks again!

True. My daughter spun our 2005 into a wall at 55 MPH. Double airbag deployment, then got T-Boned by a pickup. Walked away. If it was an SUV, we would have been rolling down the highway, earth-sky, earth-sky style. I like a low-slung car.

I just did two of these recalls back to back. The first one took me almost forever to get done. The second one took me significantly less time, but my neck still hurts from doing them. So, long story short, we're just splicing in a gizmo in series to the LCM, 11 wires to be exact (and one ground dead ended). Way to go Ford, for another Band Aid recall.
