  • Left Tool has a strange gutter situation on one corner of his porch. He solves it with a rain chain drain. He went with a rain chain drain because he didn't like the way a gutter looked in this spot.

add about 6" of down spout to where the chain attaches... will clean up the look a little more and also should funnel the water better to the chain.

looks cool, I like the fish at the bottom. I have chains on all down spouts of my home here in Dominican Republic, I also had chais on my home in Costa Rica. Kind of s.o.p. in both places to use chains rather than downspouts. Only diference it using only one but much larger gauge chain. Most often it is done with very thick plastic chain given the weight of the metal chain. There are also people who use the little buckets all linked togehter, those are kind of coolish too.

I don’t know why I have not tried some different types around my outdoor kitchen. Labor is so freaking cheap to get some kind of bucket style unique thing. But I don’t think any type would keep up with the tropical storm directly above me as I type this.

Good idea, But maybe a regular rain downspout is better after all. The whole purpose of a closed aluminum pipe is for no water spillage. One can decorate the downspout or hide it in some ornamental column. If you make the top water outlet a bit smaller and the water collection opening larger u can drain all the water to the street pipes. Any way one looks at it, chains will disperse the vertical flow of the water a bit outwards. I know in many Asian countries, in small villages they use very thick ropes made of bamboo/jute etc as rain gutter downspouts. The gutter openings they create at the top of them is very precise in size in relation to the rope thickness, and they work perfectly with no spillage. They also use huge bamboo shoots for rain gutters and 'closed' gutter downspouts. Incredibly strong & rigid.
