  • Rain chains are typically either a series of metal cups, chained together with a hole in the bottom of each, or chain links that span vertically. Rain water run-off gets distributed from a rooftop gutter downward through the rain chain.

    What a beautiful yard and garden patio area. I had to come see what these were and see one working after watching a house tour online with rain chains. I had no idea such an invention existed and must say I love both the look and the sounds of the cascading water. Looks to be a fairly uncomplicated project and looking online at pricing, doesn't seem to be extremely expensive. Thanks for sharing your project. Feel this one is going to be in the plans for many.

    I wonder if there’s a Climbing Vine plant that could replace the chain. It would have to tolerate water, and there could be an aluminum fence that it climbs, right under the gutter

    • @WhatPlantisthatPaul
      @WhatPlantisthatPaul  2 года назад +1

      Good idea, maybe a snail vine? Out here, the ants would climb up the vine and invade the house!

      Thank you! I did it myself because heavy rains eroded the soil and started to damage the house. I plan to add more dragon fruit plants to this wall in the future.

    • @WhatPlantisthatPaul
      @WhatPlantisthatPaul  3 года назад +1

      I selected locations with excellent drainage and far enough from windows so they don't get splashed. For installation, I followed the directions and did not need to drill any holes. The rain chains attached to the top of the downspout. I might add one more :)

      @@WhatPlantisthatPaul For me I have metal roof run off that splashes my window in heavy rains the window is covered with rain. I had stacked up some thin bricks to divert the water which worked great splashing onto a sidewalk but my roof power washer moved the bricks and now I cannot figure out how I had so well lined them up. I found rain chains to experiment with at Joanne's for 60% off, but they are not copper so they will eventually rust out. I am going to paint them with rustoleum for now because in Florida we are moving into rainy April and I need to do something experimental at least. The strategy is to catch the origin of the drips diverted by the bricks for me. Thanx for your help and links. I had no idea they had parts at Amazon that I may be able to use.
