You guys forgot the worst part about requiem, The fact that the lighting's so dark you can't even see anything a lot of the time. Literally the most clear image isn't eve the film, but the set photo.
After Aliens, this franchise became a total clusterfuck. The sad thing is, aside from the AvP series (which I don't even consider proper installments) the Alien movies have always had really talented directors attached to them. But something always seems to go horribly wrong. I'm not that sad about Neill Blomkamp's movie being dead in the water because I doubt it'd end up any different. If David Fincher, whose style is absolutely perfect for this series, can't make a good Alien movie without somebody fucking it up, nobody can.
Just like in this video, a common thread is FOX studio executives. They love to make money and they love to micromanage their franchise films.... to their detriment. It's similar to how they almost ran their Marvel movies into the grave, but were bailed out with DOFP, Deadpool and Logan (mostly due to getting rid of Tom Rothman).
About the same regardless of how the movie turned out.Fincher had all ways planned for the film to be about every one dying an be about rapists an murders an artsy type film.If he had total control it would have just been a longer version of that with better character development. No matter what if you dont like the direction of that movie you wouldnt have changed your mind.
At the end of AVP I thought the predator and woman were going to share a kiss, and I was ok with it. I then spent the drive home questioning why I was ok with it and what I was doing with my life
😂😂😂😂 I was expecting that everytime I watch AVP many of times expecting them to share a kiss but Paul WS Anderson Didn’t wanted to put that into a Rated R Movie
Also does anybody remember this commercial for Alien 3 where is said "THE BITCH IS BACK"! I was like 10 in 92' and my pops was like "what the hell did that commercial just say" lol
Ohhhh word? what a Kickass surprise reviewing all of em. for me Besides Alien and Aliens of Course if I voted them from best to worst out the others I'd say -AVP: like korey and martin said it was a fun B movie to me and seeing Alien vs Predator onscreen was SOO DOPE the first time around - Alien Resurrection: This is fuckin comedy to me. That scene where the aliens chomp that other alien to escape is inside joke between me and my friends since that one alien is like "CHILL DUDES DONT ATTACK ME FUCK" and also i sorta like the atmosphere and the flesh alien at the end haha - Prometheus: RedLetterMedia said it best - Alien 3: they killed off everyone left from Aliens and the Dog Alien was meh to me - AVP 2: FUCK THAT MOVIE LIKE FUCK IT SO HARD
I completely agree with Corey about Aliens3...... The death of Newt and Hicks not only cheapens Aliens 3 itself, but makes BOTH characters mostly POINTLESS in regards to watching Aliens 2 a second (or multiple) time(s). Knowing what happens to them "after" the mission, makes everything they do DURING the mission a waste of screen time. Why build any bonds/friendships with anyone in the series if you are just going to kill them off at the start of the next movie? Why bother having "in-depth" characters involved AT ALL if they are going to die. It even makes Ripley LESS interesting because there is no need for her to grow as a character because any growth doesn't matter one ounce. Killing Newt and Hicks at the start of Aliens 3 was the start of the downfall of a great franchise...... one that has been treading water on the success and popularity of 1 and 2, which are DIFFERENT GENRES from each other to begin with. (1 was a horror movie, 2 was an action movie)
Something that many don't consider in regards to Newt is that the girl that played her didn't want to return to the role (never mind being 4-5 years older by the time Alien 3's filming began). In fact, it's her *only* real film role. The only options were re-casting the role or kill the character.
Have you guys seen the Assembly Cut of Alien 3? It's effectively the directors cut that is pieced together based on David Fincher's production notebook. While it still doesn't have Newt and Hicks, it is a really solid film. I feel like the decision to keep Ripley tragic and alone is a conscious decision as she has always been a loner in all the films, and this builds on the tragedy of not being able to fulfill her role as a mother that she struggled with in Aliens.
Actually in the Alien Colonial Marines game and in a comics( explains futher what happened to Hicks.) That Hicks wasn't dead, some people came abroad a ship, and Hicks was kiddnapped. That was the body of another man not hicks. These people are the reason why Ripley was infected with the queen alien, and the reason why Newt is dead.
Interesting to note: Because it incorporates some elements and images from Dan O'Bannon's original ALIEN draft, AVP is the only film in the franchise on which Dan has a credit beyond "based on characters created by" (he shares story credit).
There WAS going to be an Alien cartoon: "Operation: ALIENS". It didn't make it past the pilot - however it's because of the pilot that we had the action figure line back in the mid-90s
Aliens is probably my favorite movie of all time. That movie and Jurassic Park WERE my childhood. I kept getting excited, and subsequently let down, by each sequel. I guess I was taught a life lesson: don't expect anything and you don't be disappointed
Alien 3 has a lot going against it but I will say this, it is the most well acted out of all of the franchise. Sigourney, Charles Dance and Charles S. Dutton are phenomenal.
Killing off HIcks and Newt was the first thing that doomed Alien3...granted the actual Newt was five or six years older by the point they started filming, but still. Two iconic Aliens world characters, and Ripley's only emotional link to the normal world, and they just isolated her. Also, a young John Ortiz was in that horrible Alien vs. Predator: Requiem. He miraculously survived the axe.
I'm one minute in and I'm already laughing. Subscribed Also, I like the idea of AvP. The books( Aliens vs Predators: Prey and Aliens vs Predators: Hunters Planet) were great. I want those turned into movies. (And agreed with Michel Bay. I want to take a bat to his face for killing Jazz. YOU DON'T KILL THE JAZZ MAN!)
Alien3...forever underappreciated. I take A3 and Aliens on their own merits. Yeah, 3 undercuts 2 but on its own, its great, especially the DC/work print.
at around 30:00 , concerning the writers of Alien: Requiem: I fully believe that these guys were huge fans of the franchise. One thing I've come to notice, in all my years of being a Huge Nerd, is that if you give Fanboys that are totally in love with a franchise control of it, they will take everything they love and dial it to 11, not realizing that the 'common' fans will think they are going WAY overboard. Also, somebody has already said it before, but Requiem is a direct sequel to AvP, and it ended with a hybrid 'Pred-Alien' bursting from the chest of the single remaining predator of that movie, causing the ship to crashland on earth, and this one just happens to have the stupid mutant ability to inject multiple alien embryos into pregnant woman because...... REASONS!!! ^_^
I've always found documentaries about Alien 3 to be far more interesting than the film itself. I'd buy the film just for the extra features. The story behind it's troubled production and insight into the ideas that did and didn't make it in to the film are really fascinating.
the weirdness of Alien Resurrection is what i really love about the film. I still find the Xenomorphs look the best in that film as they look so gruesome and gooey
In the second Predator movie, when Dani Glovers character enters the alien ship, there is a room with skulls on the wall. One of the skulls was an Alien skull, that blew my mind when I was a kid. As far as Alien 3 goes, Dark Horse comics were releasing comics at the time that had Newt and Hicks as main characters. The story was set maybe 10 years in the future and was suppose to take place between Aliens 2 and 3. Aliens 3 ended up being terrible.
GraphicMonkey That skull always bothered me because aliens have exoskeletons, they don't have internal skulls. But yeah it was still cool to see it hanging on the wall.
tatooweeny - That's not true, I have an 18" movie accurate replica Alien in my room and the head is transparent. There is clearly a skull inside. Google "giger alien clear head" for the proof.
one film theory I can believe is that Alien and Blade runner take place in the same universe not just that both are directed by Ridley Scott but that several hints were dropped in Prometheus and in aliens in the board meeting when it displays all the dead characters in alien it says Dallas worked for the Tyrell Corp.
I actually really like aliens vs predator it’s action packed and makes the aliens and predators look cool. None of the other movies on this list have I watched more than once and I choose to ignore them.
I think it´s perfect what they did with Newt and Hicks in Alien 3. That makes the movie more depressing and that´s what I love about Alien 3: it´s so nihilistic. Ripley is completly alone and fucked there. If Newt and Hicks were alive, I wouldn´t feel as bad for Ripley as I feel when she´s a lonely women among prisoners. The more I watch Alien 3, the more I love it. It´s an unique atmospheric take on Alien. It´s different, it´s sad, it makes you feel that there´s no hope, that they are in the last corner of the universe. I also like Alien: Resurrection very much. It´s quite fun! I don´t like that hybrid at the end, but that´s it. That Ripley clone is awesome, Ron Perlman, Dominique Pignon... It feels like an European movie. Once again, a different take on the Alien mythology.
imo #1. aliens 2.alien 3.avp 4.alien resurrection 5.prometheus 6.alien 3 7.avp 2 it was bad I really am expecting alien covenant to be 2 or 3 on this list i hope to God im right
true martin i am soo tired of that scientist in the prometheus thing. If you see a flower for the first time do you treat it like a bomb? or do you look at it closely? why is it considered so out of place when that happens?
I love Alien 3 the best. It is such a grim end to a tragic story of this survivor. She gets a bittersweet end and that's life. People want her and Hicks and the girl fighting the good fight in another action romp. Nah. I like we got instead. Seems harsh but that's how life is. Not going to do you any favors. From the music to these broken characters to the scary animal movement of the alien. I love Alien 3. Liking sometime is subjective but I think people just wanted Aliens 2. Action junkies. Like people praise Alien but forget what kind of film it was when they talk about the sequels next.
After hearing Korey's criticism I get why he's upset. The movie we could have had, surely. I grew up never knowing about all the studio bs or the other horror stories from production. Since we are not including the first two films, Alien 3 is easily my favorite.
RepublicAgent ugh.... such shit taste. Just because it ends on bleak note doesn't make it good, it's a nice idea sure but it sure wast executed well. You seem to like the movie for the ideas it has rather than the actual film
I'm surprised (and thankful) Korey forgot the worst part of AvP Requiem; probably the dumbest scene in all of cinema.... Where the Alien walks into a ward full of pregnant women (who are strapped to their beds), walks up to one woman, and forces a whole bunch of eggs down her throat. And yes, 10 mins later, they all hatch out of her... F that movie
Prometheus, Alien Resurrection, AVP, Alien 3. AVP2 I really don't remember that well. I seem to remember thinking it was okay, but no opinion on where it ranks.

I'm actually kinda disappointed you guys didn't include Alien and Aliens in the discussion. Yea it's mostly agreed that they're both great, but they're both very different kinds of movies, that work for different reasons...would make for an interesting discussion which one you guys prefer of the two
I actually got to see Alien 3 and 4 again in 2021. The Alien 3 and 4 studio cuts are surprisingly alot better but the creature effects is only eye-sore. But Alien 1, 2 and Prometheus are my top favorite. Alien 4 is like campy cheesy sci fi....but funny sequel.
Alien and Aliens jointly at the top, followed by the massively underrated Alien 3, then Prometheus, Resurrection, AvP, Covenant and then the atrocious AvP: Requiem. From Prometheus downwards, the movies are basically varying levels of crappy, but all are watchable and provide some fun moments....except for Requiem, pretty much nothing redeemable in that mess.
I know this review is 6 years old, but Prometheus is trash.. we didn't need it, no one asked for it. Everyone only wanted more of THE alien, the Xenomorph. To explain or even overexplain where the Xenomorph comes from is to destroy the mystique of the creature. It's simply BS.
Alien 3 Teaser : "On Earth, everyone can hear you scream."
Korey:"Not if you ain't there."
😂
You guys forgot the worst part about requiem, The fact that the lighting's so dark you can't even see anything a lot of the time. Literally the most clear image isn't eve the film, but the set photo.
for me, other than can't see a damn thing cause it was so dark, it was the exploding pregnant lady.

I'm not so sure buddy..but he _looking GOOD._

Calling it: They don't like Covenant.
i dont think they like it either that sucks
for good reason the movie is a trainwreck
It was alright.
like what a 7 outta ten or better worse etc
Worse, imo.
Prometheus was my favorite. So disturbingly beautiful

I love Retro Reviews!
Subbed from the Schmoedown. Lovin' your humor and insights!
Aliens is probably my favorite movie of all time. That movie and Jurassic Park WERE my childhood.
I kept getting excited, and subsequently let down, by each sequel. I guess I was taught a life lesson: don't expect anything and you don't be disappointed
They should do a Predators vs Expendables, and let that be the last expendables
Alien 3 has a lot going against it but I will say this, it is the most well acted out of all of the franchise. Sigourney, Charles Dance and Charles S. Dutton are phenomenal.
James Cameron actually prefers AVP over Alien 3 and Resurrection.
He also like Terminator genisys .
Terminator Genysis is a good movie.
weilim10 and thats why it got shafted by paramount
I do too. Is there a problem?
weilim10
It's way better than resurrection
Well wow. I didn't know Fox had a history of meddling with directors work. I thought it was only recent as of Fan4stic.
Killing off HIcks and Newt was the first thing that doomed Alien3...granted the actual Newt was five or six years older by the point they started filming, but still. Two iconic Aliens world characters, and Ripley's only emotional link to the normal world, and they just isolated her.

everytime korey says "my favrite", I keep hearing co-host going "oeh oeh, my favrite!"
YES for Alien versus Predator!!!!!!!
29:05 - AVP movies were prequels and at the end of AVP 2 you see the merging of Weyland and Yutani into the one company that is in the future movies
I'm one minute in and I'm already laughing.

alekesam aliens 3 is trash
Hmm. This something new, a franchise review 😂!
Alien Isolation is my JAM, MAN!!!!!
great video guys. That Bob Marley predalien was hilarious
Alien VS. Predator is great fun to watch.
Damn, wished this was longer. This is going to be a super long week waiting for Friday. My expectations are low, but I'm ready to watch it.

Prometheus was my favorite but it seems like they nuked the storyline.
So much untapped potential.
So much stupidity!
The only actor that I've known in AVPR was John Ortiz; he was in Silver Linings Playbook, American Gangster, and Fast & Furious 4 & 6.
It also had Michelle Dresser from 24. Also Ortiz was just recently in A Dog's Purpose and Kong: Skull Island.
Haven't seen either of them.
what would be better for bad movie night requiem or resurrection

I'm glad to see that I'm not alone in my loathing of Alien 3.
Watch the Assembly Cut, it's better.
I HATE ALIEN3
They almost had a Alien cartoon
but it's rare like only a lost pilot
that only had a few screen shots are out there
I thought they was going to talk about the games too. AVP is one of those guilty pleasure movies out there.
I think it´s perfect what they did with Newt and Hicks in Alien 3. That makes the movie more depressing and that´s what I love about Alien 3: it´s so nihilistic. Congratulations on the Schmoedown! You got to keep going until you are Champs!
AVP Requiem has most rewatchability.
You guys are amazing film reviewers keep it up, boys crack me right up haha
27:44 "What Dafuq... is this shit?! WHAT?!'
Best reaction! XD
Alien was masterpiece, Aliens was so damn enjoyable more action, loved Alien vs Predator great re-watchable fun film
I'm always gonna wonder if Niel Blomkamp's Alien 5 was going to be the true sequel to Aliens.
See. Someone gets it. Not going THAT far but it def a good film.
After hearing Korey's criticism I get why he's upset. The movie we could have had, surely. I grew up never knowing about all the studio bs or the other horror stories from production. I took the film as it was and accepted it.
As a child the theme of loss hit me hard. How unfair life can be when this person should have had that happy ending. They didn't get one.
These interchangeable prisoners, that's a legit criticism, are the throwaways of society. They died for everyone that doesn't want them.

F that movie
itsKaiserJay he talks about it in the full stream. He also talks about the kid and the chest burster.
itsKaiserJay HAHAHA THAT'S THE BEST PART
The first Alien movie is my favourite because it's so tense and claustrophobic.
"The Double Toasted Way" God I love this channel!!!!!!
Alien Vs Predator is a guilty pleasure for me; I still really enjoy it, though the plot is absolute silly nonsense. The action is fun though.
Prometheus, Alien Resurrection, AVP, Alien 3. AVP2 I really don't remember that well. I seem to remember thinking it was okay, but no opinion on where it ranks.
"The Alien movies are awesome...the first two anyway".
Can you guys review Alien 3: Assembly Cut?
AVP was way more fun than Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection, which were just depressing as fuck.
Alien(1979) and Aliens(1986) they’re classics
Great to see you guys on the Schmoedown!
Fun fact: Mainframe (the studio who made Reboot and Beast Wars) were going to make a Alien cgi series, but got canned for some reason. At least they made Star Ship Troopers.
Classic Martin and Korey
Damn was hoping they were going to talk about the first two. They can't be praised enough.
I am bummed that Neill Blomkamp is not getting a chance to make an Alien movie. Aliens in South Africa!
Thanks for such an entertaining discussion of this great franchise though.
I'm actually with korey on AvP.
I wasn't around during the release of Alien and Aliens, but I did watch both movies when I was about six. I wasn't watching Power Rangers or any of that crap. My dad let me watch Terminator one and two, Predator, Alien and Aliens, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, Dirty Harry. I enjoyed Alien and Aliens, and I still enjoy them.
I watched both Power Rangers and all that Science fiction stuff when I was a kid lol
Requiem is my guilty pleasure.
I love Requiem. It is corny but finally the truth is revealed. humans wouldn't win.
There actually almost was an Aliens cartoon back in the day, it would have had Ripley and the Space Marines hunting down xenomorphs.
alien 3 is one of the most underrated movies of all time
It sucked
these guys are great!
I actually like the 1st AVP, but Requium was just forgettable.
1) Aliens
2) Prometheus
3) Alien
4) AVP: Requiem
5) Alien 3
6) AVP
7) Alien Ressurection
Requiem is an abomination!
Requiem could have been good but you cant see shit because it was so dark
Korey and Marty lookin Good i see You😎
I'm curious to see what they thi nk about Covenant. Cause overall people seem to be liking it more than Prometheus and saying its the third best.
Wesley Crawford my cynical prediction: the action scenes helped.
iucidium1982 more than likely ya
ALIEN FRANCHISE REVIEW? That's some good shit
I have been waiting on this!!!!!
For anyone who hates Alien 3, watch the Assembly Cut!
I'm not done with the Alien series but I'm done with the fans because they can't live past parts 1 or 2.
Can you blame them, every thing else has been shit so of course they can't move on
The Alien 3 Assembly Cut is actually much much better and more in line with what David Fincher wanted. Worth a rental.
Actually there was supposed to be an Alien cartoon series from S. Korea but it never got passed the pilot episode.
