Joe unexpectedly takes the melody, then at 2:14 generously and so very quickly passes the ball over to Roy, who picks it up instantly. Amazing intuition and teamwork from both players.
Mr. Joe Pass so laid back, like he doesnt know he is the MAN. rip maestro. nobody can interpret a tune like he could. genius, pure & simple genius. thanks for this piece.
Joe Pass could play anything! He was one of the all time greatest jazz guitarist. Roy Clark is one of great country artist. John Pisano's jazz recording are beautiful! I think this was Joe Pass last recording before he die. We lost a great one!
Another "country" musician who can blow you away is Glenn Campbell. On one of his shows he went toe-to-toe with George Benson and held his own. Blew me away.
I was wondering who was the “The Third Man” !. Absolutely beautiful moving chords around the fretboard. A stellar contribution. A ghastly shame that he gets no mention. Enabled Joe and Roy, to float along. A wonderful video, great stars all. Say no more, marvellous !, x x x .
Makes me dance around the kitchen with the one I love and scat sing like a country cat on a hot jazz roof. I love seeing my once guitar teacher John Pisano on rhythm guitar. Swings and smiles all the way through.
56 year older shredder wannabe? lol but I still know where my influences came from....raise in Motown, Roy Clark is an all time favorite of mine. These guys know music and how to express it. Even though i hated country, I couldn't get away from Roys unrelenting talent on the guitar.
Roy Clark can play as fast as any shredder that has ever lived. Check out that video where is playing Malaguena on the Odd Couple. Fastest hands in the west.
Correction: THREE of the greatest. John Pisano (who is still living), is every bit on the level with Joe & Roy, but spent his career backing up others, and never took the spotlight.
John Pisano was a friend of mine. He had a million stories about the years he played with Joe. The last one he told me was really sad. He hadn't seen Joe in a while. He called Joe and said he had a little gig for the two of them. Joe, in a very sickly (or ...?) voice said "It's over. I can't play anymore." and hung up. John said "I was sitting on the edge of my bed. I put down the phone and cried." Joe was dead not long after. As great as he played, he could never shake his demons.
From what his luthier told me he had given up the hard drugs long ago smoked a little Herb but the damage to his liver caught up with him and the road life.. I don't care what style you play or you want to play the more you Immerse yourself in Passalaqua the better you'll get in your chosen style. 1st lesson learn to tap your foot and move your whole body if you want to swing.
If Joe Pass and Chet Atkins got in a fight, I don't know who would win, I think Joe Pass and Chet Atkins are the two greatest guitar players ever. I like Roy Clark alot as well, he is very versatile.
Notice at 3:15 a new version can of FINGER EASE. In one of his videos of Austin City Limits with Gatemouth Brown, he uses a can of FINGER EASE as a TRICK to do cute steel licks. And after all these years, still using the product. That says something doesn't it?
please tell me this wasn't the mix released on the record. Stellar playing, but Roy's rides are under Pisano's comps and Joe's fills (I love it when good musicians can drop fills in others' solos)
Cleanliness. It the HARDEST playing attribute to master. There is no particular right or left hand technique in regards to speed, precision or chordal dynamism that is even 1/10th as difficult as achieving consistent, total cleanliness in your playing. I think a lot of guitarists are impressed by the wrong stuff, speed being the biggest one. Speed is fun but you get speed in a year or two of consistent playing. Cleanliness. There is no guarantee you will EVER achieve that. Roy and Joe did.
I never understood why Joe Pass recorded with Roy Clark, except that he was friends with the producer and made some money off the project. Because Roy Clark is nowhere near the level of Joe Pass, and this is clearly evident. They are totally unmatched. For me it's the worst thing Joe Pass ever did, and it's actually amazing to hear how bad it is. Roy Clark is great in his own medium of country entertainment, but way out off his element when it comes to improvising with the master of jazz guitar. There were many other vastly more talented guitarists Joe could have recorded with, and I 'm sorry he didn't.
Roy might not have been on Joes level but I bet if we checked into things we’d find that Joe would have killed to have Roy’s ability to entertain and have the bank account that around built up. I think in this situation Joe knew he was an obscure name outside of the Jazz circuit and wanted to dabble a bit. Country can be just as melodic and complex as anything else and Joe probably wanted to try it. What was the harm? Plus maybe just maybe Joe wasn’t a gold plated asshole of a jazz snob and music cork sniffer that most talentless hacks try and pass themselves off to be.
Joe unexpectedly takes the melody, then at 2:14 generously and so very quickly passes the ball over to Roy, who picks it up instantly. Amazing intuition and teamwork from both players.
There are actually THREE master guitarists here. John Pisano is a MONSTER player!!
Amen
Mr. Joe Pass so laid back, like he doesnt know he is the MAN. rip maestro. nobody can interpret a tune like he could. genius, pure & simple genius. thanks for this piece.
Respect and RIP to two of the original guitar shredders, Roy Clark and Joe Pass. Loving the tone of Roy's Heritage signature guitar BTW...
Joe Pass could play anything! He was one of the all time greatest jazz guitarist. Roy Clark is one of great country artist. John Pisano's jazz recording are beautiful! I think this was Joe Pass last recording before he die. We lost a great one!

Roy clark calling joe his idol is so self humbling, what a legendary guy
Joe just lives in a other world....... We would all love to be worthy of visiting......
Dig Pisano's great comping. Such a master.
John Pisano is such an unsung hero on guitar.
I was wondering who that was -- thanks for dropping that note.
Agreed!
John Pisano! A great jazz guitarist/accompanist with a ton of credits, but never really had a solo career that took off like Roy or Joe.
Wow how could I miss this , two of my favs collide from different worlds just beautifully...great recording!
Two geniuses. That's all. Wish I could play even a bit like them.
Makes me dance around the kitchen with the one I love and scat sing like a country cat on a hot jazz roof. I love seeing my once guitar teacher John Pisano on rhythm guitar. Swings and smiles all the way through.
always knew roy clark was great but hangin' with joe pass puts him another universe...awesome vid...thank you for posting this!!
The talent in that room.
Who would believe these guys would do an album together? Both are heros of mine.
You 15 year old shredders who think you guitar gods, here's the reality of what talent is. Not jumbling notes 200 mph.
56 year older shredder wannabe? lol but I still know where my influences came from....raise in Motown, Roy Clark is an all time favorite of mine. These guys know music and how to express it. Even though i hated country, I couldn't get away from Roys unrelenting talent on the guitar.

Brilliant
I love and am a huge fan of Roy, but I hear him hitting some clams here and there😮
Amazing !!!
Two of the greatest!
Correction: THREE of the greatest. John Pisano (who is still living), is every bit on the level with Joe & Roy, but spent his career backing up others, and never took the spotlight.
Clark . Nothing to pass. Pass is the man
Country genius + Jazz genius = guitarawesomenessbeyondbelief.

His addiction days really took a lot out of him way back when.
From what his luthier told me he had given up the hard drugs long ago smoked a little Herb but the damage to his liver caught up with him and the road life..

This is GREAT thx for sharing.
Amazing. So cool!
Brilliant !!
So Great! Thank You
Man this some crazy good pickin'! Wow!!

this is such a great idea, lucky they got it on tape while he was still alive
Zoiks! some seriously sweet chops going down....
Pisano steals the show.....
@Modes9 Nice see someone mention Johnny...the forgotten guitarist.
If Joe Pass and Chet Atkins got in a fight, I don't know who would win, I think Joe Pass and Chet Atkins are the two greatest guitar players ever. I like Roy Clark alot as well, he is very versatile.
coulld chet keep up with oscar p joe did.dont get me wrong chet atkins master

good music knows no genre. I gotta get some Hank Garland country albums right now.
Was this a promotional clip?
please tell me this wasn't the mix released on the record. Stellar playing, but Roy's rides are under Pisano's comps and Joe's fills (I love it when good musicians can drop fills in others' solos)
No, this was filmed as they played for a tv show. It was mixed later.
Who's the fella in the back? He's hammering it!
That's John Pisano.
@@Spock_Rogers Pity he doesnt even get an honorable mention...
@@bobrichardson5905 Yeah. He's great. I've been looking at some of his old videos. I've fallen down the jazz guitar rabbit hole.
Where's Buckethead though?
who's the dude playin' rhythm?
John Pisano
This has a classy early 50's Johnny Smith vibe. I miss this style...
Pass used no echo. . Big difference

Roy and Joe did.
That and note choice. Chord tones. And the ever present space of silence. Playing nothing is powerful.
@Parley454 Roy Clark is great, but not in the same class as Joe or Chet.
I never understood why Joe Pass recorded with Roy Clark, except that he was friends with the producer and made some money off the project. @@calebbhawkins I agree . Besides music is not a contest to see whos best , It is all about entertainment .
