Roy Clark impressed a member of a Mexican musical group so much that the dude took one of Clark's songs and recorded it in Spanish. It became a huge hit in México. Other groups in Latin American also put it out. The instrument was Racing The Mule.
As a guitar player myself people have absolutely no idea how difficult it is to pretend like you can't play the instrument when you can! Talented man seriously 👏!
If Roy Clark were here today and you gave him an instrument you’d just invented, not only could he play it…he’d show you five new chords you didn’t know.
I was lucky enough to have been a police officer in Roy Clarks neighborhood and saw him on a regular basis, he was just a regular guy so to speak. Played about 8 or 9 instruments. Built a air plane, when he was teen ager, then owned a piper tri pacer, and a twin engine plane. Rode around town in a old jeep. On Friday and Saturday would go to local clubs and sit in with local bands. I saw him at the airport one night and asked if he was going to the opry...he said Nah, I am to sick I am going fishing. Just one of the greatest people you could ever know.
Roy Clark and Glenn Campbell playing together is as good as it gets. What's amazing is to watch Roy watching Glenn play as they both are jamming. Showing how much respect he could show others.
I knew Roy Clark was a famous country singer and a great guitarist. However, his outstanding performance on this show along with his great sense of humor were so enjoyable to watch. I truly appreciate his talents more now than before.
I was lucky enough to have seen Roy Clark in concert once. The audience laughed and laughed through the whole thing. And such a gifted musician! That concert just whizzed by and didn't last nearly long enough. 💘
Back in the seventies a friend of mine went nearly every weekend to a country music festival. He knew I played music (trumpet) and sang for most of my life and he ask me on dat who I thought the best country entertainer was. With little thought I said Roy Clark. He said I never thought of him. Later he told me that he had been asking people he knew at the week end outings the same question. All of who were country musicians. A few would say Roy, but not many until he told them his pick was Clark. After a bit of time they would come back to him and say "you know you're right, I never thought of him". Still to this day many people are in this boat. Roy was the best.
A very, very, talented man. And gravely unappreciated nationally. He could stand along side of Chet and Earl, Jerry Reed, and Glen Campbell any day. And they were some of the best.
Hrs used to come to the Oklahoma state fair rodeo as entertainment. He had section where he would play all the instruments he could in a single song. It was amazing how talented he was.
With out question many great guitarist will come and go in this world. Roy Clark will always be with the ones if not just the best that could cover the compete range of the human heart's feeling from music played with strings complemented by bodily personalized expression while singing. Roy was amazing the compilations he put together, sometimes I think it an impromptu notion of what might be funny. And then he does Yesterday when I was young, or malagania and your jaw hits the floor cause your brain don’t comprehend what yer eyes just saw. In all ways a great man
What an amazing talent this guy was. I think he was someone that just wanted to have fun entertaining people. I always liked when he would have a guest on and he always gave them room to play their stuff snd he would stand back and smile while they played then he would join them just like they were playing together forever. And he played anything with strings.
Roy Clark has always been one of the best guitarists, banjo players, comedian and all around entertainer. So was Glen Campbell except not quite a funny and I’ve never seen him play banjo. Point is… these guys are among the best at what they did and rarely got recognized for the amazing chops they both had.
Roy was ahead of this or any other time not only musically, but comedically. Hard to wrap my mind around how much is going on in this…uh….creation….of his.

He was the Larry Bird of music. He talked a lot of smack, but boy could he back it up!
he was the king of holding back. he could have torn everything up like nobodies business if he were so inclined.
Roy was ahead of this or any other time not only musically, but comedically. Hard to wrap my mind around how much is going on in this…uh….creation….of his.
