    I love rhubarb by itself. When I was a kid, I brought a small bowl of sugar outside with a knife and cut it straight from the stock. I dipped it in the sugar and ate it right then.

      I actually do like to eat it fresh from time to time, no sugar needed. We just do not prefer it by itself for pies and jams

    I just harvested 3-1 gallon bags of rhubarb. Put it in the freezer until I'm ready to make strawberry rhubarb jam. Just waiting on my strawberries to ripen up. This year the garden is full of all kinds of plants but I think the one thing I'm most excited about is the amount of bees I have pollenating the garden. Just a few years ago I could barely find one and now their in abundance. 🐝🐝🐝

    I didnt know about dehydrating rhubarb till I saw it in my book last year, of course AFTER I canned and froze a it all! I have all the canned that I need and same for frozen and I haven't even started to harvest this year yet! I had a bumper crop last year and harvested well over 60 lbs, I was overwhelmed! I wanted to tell you that I did make juice and canned it and it is very good. I wait till I open the jar to add some honey for the tartness. Thanks for sharing the dehydrating, now I feel like I can do it knowing it will be totally usable later on! Have a great day!

    I use some of the biggest rhubarb leaves when I make a bird bath out of cement. I lay the leaf or several leaves down in the wet cement and weigh it down til dry and the pattern from the huge veins in the leaf are left to show down in the birdbath. So pretty. I usually give my Mom the stalks and she makes wonderful pies. Thanks for you channel. I just started watching. I look forward to learning lots and lots from you. Blessings, Teri

    I havent used jars to freeze my rhubarb, i use bags i make with my food saver. But i am trying to go more green so jars would make more sense. I like the idea of dehydrating it to. Im also checking into freeze drying.

      I used to use foodsavers but got fed up with having to replace them every two years and with also trying to cut back on the amount of plastics used with my foods, I decided to switch mostly to jars. Yes, they take up more room in the freezer but other than that, i am liking them better

    I used that very pink 100% cotton that I got a few years ago 10 yards for $1/yard on clearance from $3.99. For tray covers for my dehydrators. First set done & on it. Think I'll make a second set for each so I can wash as needed. Maybe even a third. Thanks for that idea. SOOO MUCH EASIER. THANK YOU!

    Great video. This is the first year that I have rhubarb. So it's safe to say that it will be next year before I get to use it 😐 But I am going to have so many other things. Lots of tomatoes lot of squash many kinds I love the big dark hard shell pumpkin and butternut squash because they will actually last up to five months if stored well both of them store well. I have every green leaf vegs that you can possibly think of. Going to dry them to store, what we don't eat. But what I the most thrilled about is my big butter beans and my green peas and black eye peas. I have green beans too. And okra and corn planning on canning some vegetable soup. But thanks for the tips and suggestions, always a big help on deciding what I can do with everything and get the most out of everything I am growing! Bless you and your family Heidi

    I'm heading out to pick our rhubarb soon. I can rhubarb sauce and make rhubarb strawberry juice along with using it in baking, as well. I'm planning on dehydrating more this year than normal because of no extra freezer space.
    I also picked up an extra set of the food saver vacuum tops. I was surprised that our local hardware store was out of them, but they ordered me a set.
    Blessings 💖

      I have made rhubarb mead and vinegars but have not considered juicing it, I am liking this idea and may have to give it a try! I think it would make a tasty natural soda, especially if blended with some sweeter fruits like berries or peaches

    I asked a question about cockleburs in a past vlog and I know you get 100's of questions so you aren't expected to remember, but I just wanted to add that cocklebur us also known as Burdock. It resembles rhubarb by its leaves, but is horribly invasive and its flowers turn into very nasty balls that resemble and act like velcro sticking to clothing, etc. With itchy little barbs. Enjoying all your vlogs here in North Idaho zone 6a. 🌻🌿

    I'm so bummed. I've been "meaning" to get the food saver lids for months now - I went to buy them... nope! sold out EVERYWHERE!!! I have the break bleeder - I'm hoping they'll be around and affordable when everyone is getting rid of all their "c@v1d" stuff. How long do you think thing will last with out sealing them? I did oregano last week - and I want to do rhubarb today

    Yes but you didn’t actually show how to preserve rhubarb, I thought you would show how to preserve in sugar and sealed jars etc.

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  3 года назад

      I showed how I preserve it, not how other people do it. I do not preserve it in sugar unless I am adding it to a homemade jam, wine, or vinegar. Other than that, I only either freeze or dehydrate.
