    I dehydrated some rhubarb and made it into powder for my Aunt. She's not a fan of rhubarb normally because it's too sour for her. I told her to try the powder on her fish instead of lemon. That was the ticket, she now likes rhubarb powder on her fish. 😁❤️

      Yes, I did a video recipe years ago for bug spray where I added rhubarb leaves. The main issue with those is they are toxic to humans so not good to spray on things you may like to nibble on in the garden. Also, the slugs don't care, they even eat the rhubarb leaves while they are still on the plant! Slimy little jerks! At least they do not demolish it, it grows too fast and too big for them to do that, haha

      @@RainCountryHomestead I had edible oxalis in my garden years ago. It's really pretty. It's not highly toxic. I probably wouldn't eat oxalis salads all summer. If I'm remembering correctly, people with kidney issues shouldn't eat it at all.

    I make branding day cake with it because we brand in April and it’s usually one of my first plants on the warmer south side of the house to get going! I’ve used both fresh and dehydrated!
    So I do 3 different recipes plus have cold heavy cream, whipped cream and or ice cream for them,
    My first cake is a cinnamon brown sugar cake.
    My second cakes take’s strawberry jello and marshmallows and white cake mix.
    My third cake recipe takes any flavor jello plus any flavor cake mix and sugar, easy peezzzeee. I personally like this one with grape jello and German chocolate cake mix!
    My hubby loves the cinnamon brown sugar cake fresh out of the oven with ice cream!
    I planted a few windrows of rhubarb and am never without! Plus plenty to gift it!
    But I do need to dehydrate a few gallons so if my deep freezer takes a dump I’m good!
    The way our government is letting in the “world” I’m afraid we’ll see lots of power outages as punishment for being “free” citizens…

    If you put a rubar leaf in your garden, the slugs will come and eat it. That way you can catch them and get them out of your garden.

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  Год назад +3

      Yep, they will eat pretty much any decomposing leaves you toss down including dandelion and more. This is just another reason why chop and drop is great for the garden, provides a mulch layer that feeds the soil and also gives slugs something the eat instead of your live plants

    If I'm going to set my dehydrator outside because of the heat, do I have to give any consideration to the wind or other outdoor conditions. Will it take longer outside than inside?

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  Год назад +1

      As far as wind, it depends on just how windy it is. It may help dry faster but obviously if it is so windy it is blowing your trays off, then yes, this would be an issue. Humidity is also a factor as this can slow drying time and if it is drizzly, you will need it in a covered area. It is also best to protect your electric dehydrator from direct sun. For me the ideal place is on the deck table that has an umbrella to protect from both rain and direct sun
