- This little light has quickly become one of my favorite pieces of equipment. Easily the best light for the money out there.

Bought the Godox AD100 Pro for my camera flash bracket, whenever I photograph weddings or events. Definitely, more powerful than any hot shoe flashes and more flexible. I use the Godox X2T transmitter on my camera to control it. The weight of the flash is actually less than the Godox V1 and more rigid on the bracket, since there is no hot shoes to deal with.
I have been trying to picture your set up since I first read the comment. I think it sounds rather brilliant. I love my V1s but I have heard a lot of people complain about the hot shoe. I've have not had that problem but the fact is that any speed lite is weak at that point to a degree and if the connection isn't working you're in trouble. I love your set up and am guessing it works very well. Probably allows the room to use a lot of different modifiers if you want as well.
@@Todd_Kuhns I have a Custom Brackets QRS-35-H Rotation Bracket. I bought it 20 years ago, and it is a very solid platform. The flash is mounted on a top plate and it stays centered when you rotate the camera below on the arc. Money well spent and it has served me well over the years.
I love my AD100Pro! Grabbed one last year on sale for $179. Totally recommend the Angler 28 for my go to softbox for the V1 and 100Pro
That's a deal. I will check out the softbox, thanks!
@@Todd_Kuhns Angler is great but too expensive.
@@dandanu2526 at 9:10 he shows the bulky heavy stupid bowens mount adapter you have to use otherwise. the Angler DOES NOT have this. it's got the profoto a2 insert which the ad100 is a direct clone of, where it just magnetically snaps in and is light weight and convenient . This being a spot and not bare bulb, a negative for softboxes with hotspot, requires double diffusion WHICH, the angler 28 also has.... therefore it is the best softbox if you really need softboxes. i would just use an umbrella personally.
Very informative video! And good that you called out the issue with the modeling light- could be a show stopper for me. Thank you 🙏🏻
Thanks for the comment. Glad it helped. Not sure how the modeling light on the AD200 works but it might be a better choice. Although it is bigger. A little.
Sure I'm late, but for decent readers: the AD200 has a nearly similar to this ~2W modeling light that is available in a fresnel head only, so we still can't get benefits of a bare bulb while using a modeling light. The LED attachment outputs around 3.6W, but has no flash tube, and a round head attachment seems to have a centered, more usable 3-steps modeling light up to around 4W of power, but considering the cost, maybe better buy the AD300 with tripple the power of an AD100Pro and a 12W bi-LED lamp. Just thinking aloud. 😌 @Todd_Kuhns
@@AntonLitvin87It's a good point that moving up in the more high end Godox models will give more usable (or simply usable!) modeling light! Thanks!
I 100% agree on the placement of the modeling light - wish it was a more centered.
Thanks for watching!
nice vid Todd ,yes little flash is handy 100w is very nice ,ive got the Godox Softbox Bowens Mount - 70x100cm and is just fine no issue what so ever and not expensive to! keep u the good work!
Godox Softbox Bowens Mount - 70x100cm
Thanks, John, appreciate the support!
I have the nikon sb700, nikon sb 910, godox 360ll and now i just got this one. Love it
Thanks for the comment!
AD100 is absolutely wonderful for me. I own 2 now and a V1 and AD200
Thanks for the comment!
Def a amazing small strobe
Lee! Thanks for the comment.
I guess could be a good option, for easy trael and carry with canon m50 mk II, thanks for you information.
Thanks for watching, yes, its a great little light.
I'm loving this light. Its just a little out of my budget especially if I factor in a trigger. But I'm getting it the first chance I get.
It’s cheaper than Profoto and some others but it is a chunk of cash for sure. That’s why I only have one at the moment. Godox had a rebate going on awhile back so be watching for sales in the future. Thanks for the comment!
@Todd_Kuhns yeah. I love everything I'm seeing about it and left to me, I'd use it. Probably even make a run and gun rig where the trigger is on the hotshoe and the light is on a cage.
@@RumbaniNdhlovu The run and gun idea is something people have shared with me before......good idea.
@@Todd_Kuhns I'll definitely try that out.
Excellent information!
Thanks for watching!
I am thinking of gettin' a second Ad100Pro...thank you!
Go for it. I wish I had a couple more myself.
I was waiting for the opportunity, I was lucky to get it on sale last Black Friday, $180 from B&H, I’m really happy with this.
That's a great price......I'd like to have one or two more, I'll be watching for a sale again this year!
Thank you!
Thank you for watching!
Thank you! I think I want one 😊
You'll enjoy it if you get one. They are $60 off right now too. Not sure how long that will last though.
@@Todd_Kuhns just ordered one, thanks so much!
@@rachelg7371let me know what you think once you get it!
I bought this strobe, and should have returned it. It overheated easily, and has a green cast. The AD 200 is twice the power for $50 more. The footprint in the bag is larger but worth it.
Fair enough, thanks for the comment.....
Great video! I have 3 ad100s for several weeks and have used them in studio and on location. I haven’t seen any green cast (yet) nor have I had to use them at full power (yet). Very pleased!
@@BeauOnTheGo_DC I haven't experienced a green cast either......
@@Todd_Kuhns no green for me too, but I do some white balance adjustment in my Nikon z6ii
@@HaimGreen thanks for the input!
I use a AD300pro with a clip in ND filter and it works get. I never use HSS
I like the AD100 but I am very interested in the 300. I don't often need more power but the 300 will probably be a next purchase if and when I add to my lighting gear. Thanks for the comment.
Take a look at the Angler 28" softbox at B&H or wherever. Comes with an insert for the AD100
I think this is the second or third time I've been told about this softbox. Must be something to it. I will check it out! Thanks for the comment.
Is that the same as the SMDV “speedbox”?
Similar to the flip 28g but much less expensive.@@DexterMurphyMusic
Спасибо за видео. Софтбокс Triopo удобно использовать.
Thanks for the comment!
Best video on this light and i have watched a ton of them.sub from me
Thank you! I appreciate it.
Is it worth upgrading from a Godox V1 ? Or Should I go directly for an AD200 pro ?
The V1 is a great light. The 100 and 200 are not speed lights like the V1 so there is that difference for what that is worth. The V1 is probably about 75 watt seconds in power so the 100 is slightly more and the 200 is a full stop more powerful than the 100. Both the 100pro and 200pro are great lights. The 100 is smaller and takes the same attachments that I put on my V1. I think I talked about those attachments and how I really like them. You can buy the same round head/attachment for the 200 but that increases the cost. So, to answer your question, if you don't mind the little bit bigger size of the 200 and it fits your budget the 200 is probably a good fit. However, I don't think you will be disappointed with the 100. It is my workhorse when it comes to lighting, I'd like to have two or three more.
@@Todd_Kuhns thanks for your time 🙏🏻 and your answer. I would like to work with a grip and a Softbox to shoot on dance events. I’m ok to pay a little bit more for better exposed pictures
Its good no doubt to that, but after using it just for a year, the battery is a complete goner besides during one of the outdoor shoot, the strobe glass got completely burnt.
Thanks for the insight. Do you use it in HSS most of the time? Just curious.
Hi,
i have a problem with all my 3 pcs. Godox AD100Pro! I have Godox X1T and and no matter what I do, after the first triggers, the continuous light lamp built into the AD100Pro ALWAYS stays ON. I can only close this manually from the button!
I don't know what it could be, the lamp button in the Godox X1T is OFF.
Can someone tell me what's going on, how can I turn off the continuous light?
thanks!
I have used the X2T and had that happen. I own the xpro and haven't experienced it with that trigger. When the x2T did it I was frustrated as you seem to be. I am not sure why it does it but I'll do a little research. I'm thinking there is a setting that needs to be ticked or unticked someplace.
@@Todd_Kuhns thank you for replay. I check all settings, nothing ...
I make firmware update, i will check them this days and i will come back with conclusion.
Cheers,
GM
Look at the Westcott Apollo
Now, that looks intereting. Affordable and looks very travel friendly. Thanks for the comment.
He was doing okay until he said bringing up shadows in Lightroom isn't the "professional" way to do it. Says who? The real answer is that you can't bring up detail that's not there, NOT that it's not professional.
My point is that you shouldn’t be relying on Lightroom to save your exposure/shadows. Thanks for the comment.
@@Todd_Kuhns With that, I agree. I disagree with so many photographers who constantly bad-mouth LR and PS, saying a shot has to be perfect straight out of camera or you're not a real professional. Technology today has given us the opportunity to do things we couldn't even dream of in the past.
@@alanvandever9683 Yep, what digital has given us is amazing. You are right. My complaint is all the photographers who don't have the technical skills at the time of the shoot who then pull all the sliders 100% in order to save their images. Thanks for the conversation!
