      In the past, Godox made gear that worked but was poorly designed. Product design is important and, as of now, Profoto is the Apple of off-camera lighting. With Godox, their design department is improving their latest gear. This is exciting. Though not yet at the level of Profoto, Godox is putting Profoto on notice.

    They do have the color temp and different color gel you can snag. the v-11t and v-11c. I think the ak-r16 gives you another magnetic ring that’ll let you sandwich a color gel in between 2 clear plastic thingies. EDIT shoulda surfed the comments.

  • @damianrobertson9272
    @damianrobertson9272 3 года назад +6

    Strongly agree about the Godox round magnet setup. The only ones that really interest me are the dome and the gel holder, and I don’t want to waste money on the (pretty expensive) AK-R1 kits getting multiple barndoors I won’t use. If they sold the items separately I’d snap more up.
    I actually think the AD100 Pro makes a ton of sense as a new category. If you’re doing the strobist shooting with a bag full of speedlites approach, saying “hey, I won’t ever attach this to a camera, let’s get rid of that shoe mount and make it smaller and lighter” seems a pretty idea. The problem is the price, with the V1 and especially V860 being significantly cheaper.

    • @WesPerry
      @WesPerry  3 года назад

      It seems weird to me that a company that makes so much cheap and trivial stuff as they do didn’t just release a whole pile of individual items for the magnetic mount. So bizarre, and such a missed opportunity. 🤷🏻‍♂️

      Damian Robertson, Adorama sells each of the AK-R1 kit items separately (barndoors, grid, snoot, dome diffuser, wide lens, bounce card, & the original plastic gel set); I just checked, they still sell them separately (www.adorama.com).

    I bought the Godox AD 360 for $250, and the Yongnuo YN200 for $170 and both are using the same great umbrellas, modifiers,... And the Yonguo has even a USB charger... Both, I can combine easily,... You stick the Yongnuo remote control on the Godox remote control... But you need an S3 bracket for the AD100, no modifier fits from the normal Flashlights... And the normal Godox Flashlights with LIthium cells don't lose power with HSS... The only advantage is that it is smaller than the AD200...

    I enjoy your style of reviews Wes, so thumbs up again. I like the idea of the AD100 pro, but not the price. Interesting that it has pro after the 100? Personally I think it will appeal to people buying their first flash and like you state event togs, but for togs who have a few Godox flashes I am not convinced. Will it sell well? I guess time will tell.

  • @jvborehed

    I feel like it was a little unclear - shutter speed doesn't really affect how much flash exposure gets into the camera, it's just that when you get over 1/250s (on most cameras) the shutter curtain needs to get smaller in order to let less light in, so if you go above, you will get black bars on your photo. It's not really an issue, it's how all flashes work, and HSS will always consume more power. That's because it's not one "pop", it's super fast stroboscopic light, and because of that less power. Either do as you do and use a ND, or get more flash power if you need to be outside or have a faster shutter speed.

    • @WesPerry

      A lot of people would say it’s the best tool for off camera flash at wedding receptions. It’s not amazing for outdoor work. Not quite enough power for much of the day. Although there are ways of making the most of that.

      It’s a MOZA Slypod E. I was trying something new, being able to zoom my top view camera in and out with my phone while talking. But apparently I would need a much bigger and beefier tripod to make that work, because it just wiggled way too much, and was unusable when moving. Back to the drawing board! 😉

    It seems you never came back to elaborate on your hunch what the second mount is for. Probably it has to do with clearance and the on-camera application might justify the off-centre mount?

    • @ChongLisDriveThru
      @ChongLisDriveThru 3 года назад +1

      Godox is a couple mm larger in diameter. The Profoto mods do work magnetically but will block some light around the edges of the Godox unit. Also mixing Godox & Profoto mods doesn't really work that well if at all because of the magnets polarity. The "New" Profoto mods are much stronger magnetically to secure on both systems. BUT I still use an XL Ranger Band (3 1/2" flat) to wrap around the head and mods for extra security.

    The AD200 or YN200 is thinner and in many cases can be more compact. So anything with a thread can be mounted in any of the configs this can BUT, the new AD200Pro does have that little modification that locks it in from spinning. I take it they didnt do that on the AD100Pro? lol..??FAIL?

I wonder what happen to Hcteeah and a couple other roductions of these lights? Glad to see Younguo still is allowed to make things for less. Time to stop going by WS buddy, that's misleading as hell, GN is definitely a better way to gauge the amount of light received albeit one actually needs to know the conversion and tricks manufacturers resort to in order to obtain a higher GN, why is GN better? because it kinda tells you just how much of light you're getting at a specific distance in a certain setting, WS don't do this, it just gives you the size of the engine but not really the speed capability or acceleration capability of the engine. GN does this.

    • @WesPerry
      @WesPerry  2 года назад

      I can’t say I ever use a flash in a manner in which GN is relevant. It’s never just firing straight at my subject. Always bounced or diffused, making GN irrelevant.
