Letting a cop determine your speed without a device invites corruption.
@@bottlerocket3218 She should sue the officers and the entire police department. Make such a wave they change the law and require radar or some other accurate method of speed determination. It is super easy to exaggerate on a thing like that. On the highway I always see people who seem to whiz right past me. I am aware they might be moving maybe 5 or 10 MPH more than me. Heck, a fast walk is anywhere from 2 to 5 MPH approximately (not a run). In a way I am glad that they do not act on word of mouth aside from watching for the suspect to see if he or she is really at that speed. We are human and we all make mistakes. These mistakes need correction through learning from them. I also believe that if any device in her vehicle was monitoring her speed a jury would not be needed so much or that said jury would be compelled to consider ALL of that evidence, lest they undermine the judicial system and the trust placed in it.
@@bottlerocket3218 you act as if there are normal everyday citizens asking for the right for cops to choose. the only people fighting for this right are people who or ill informed or cops who wanna take ya off the street cause they see something diffrent
Agreed. All states should require proof
"Jury please believe the officer"...while they pad the coffers for tickets based on "eyesight". What a corrupt system - if you don't show that a device has been calibrated/used then "guessing" isn't good enough.
RADAR really is not quantitive. Everything from cosign error to which vehicle/reflection is the instrument reading. Biggest issue in this case is the officer's biased perception of the speed.
Those two female officers are unbelievable. To think that they not only knowingly pulled her over while having no clue of her actual speed, but chose to arrest her based on a coin flib is staggering. Its clear they were using their job as a power trip

“I had to get up to 90 to catch her”
So technically if you were at a stand still and she was doing 70, you’d have to go faster to catch up. Amazing how this officer doesn’t understand this.
Precisely, the 90 mph rhetoric means absolutely nothing. She could have driven at 110 mph to catch up, the only difference would have been she caught up in less time.
That’s cause they gave a bimbo a badge.
i know thats shocking.. if she went 85 it would have taken her a lot of time to catch her a 90...

She was totally compliant, apologetic and presented no threat. There was no reason her arrest. Those cops just demonstrated why people hate cops.
That doesn't matter, What matters is evidence. She didn't have proof she was speeding, all she had was her word saying "I had to go up to 93 to catch her".
Edit: I missed the part that GA law states the officer can use their visual to gauge a drivers speed. That's insane to me
@@santrader1707 Exactly!
@@santrader1707 maybe get half of a clue before you comment? An actual radar gun isn’t required to stop someone for speeding. There’s such thing as General Speed Law. Do you need a radar for you to know that if someone is going 80 in a 25, it’s too fast? Also, reckless driving is an arrestable offense.
wet roads + excessive speed = big oofs my Washington dude.
@@InDatParish In my state, a police officer must also provide evidence which corroborates the officers opinion that you were speeding which is backed by the use of a speeding radar. So my opinion was based on my state law so even if a police officer stops you in my state for speeding based on the officers visual, they wont be able to convict with out the confirmation of the radar

@@bayro7 It can very well be that serious since this officer was not just trying to charge her with speeding but also other charges on top and could choose to charge her with reckless endangerment which by itself could land you 2 years jail time.
That’s most female cops, they get a kick out of potentially ruining someone else’s life. You saw how they where trying to find any reason. The problem is poor discretion, and to have that you have to have morals.
"I had to do 90mph to catch her, therefore she was doing 90"
is stupid cop logic I never see anyone challenge.
Excellent point.. What if the cop was a beast behind the wheel and got up to 90 quickly? How do we know how long the cop was doing 90? What was the distance between when the cop began following her and when she caught her? The cop can claim she herself did 90 mph, but how can she conclude they know the driver did? She’d have to have been following for a some period to conclude that. Interesting stuff….
I agree. The officer could have done 100mph or even 110mph to catch, just means she would have caught up much quicker. But as you say it does not mean she was doing that speed. And even if the logic was "correct", it would have been physically impossible to "catch up".
@@bonusround5583 Agree. Also if the lady was doing 90 and the cop was doing 90 then the cop would NEVER have caught up with her. Impossible. So saying she was doing 90 to catch up, immediately implies, physically, that the other driver was driving slower than that.
Damn my house must be doing 90 too
Yep. If the cop had to go 90 to catch her, clearly she was going less than 90.
Flipping a coin is a new low for corrupt officers of the law, such a disgrace to all law enforcement.

"I had to do 90 to catch up to her" Indicates that she was doing much less than 90.
The speedster was speeding anyway, the cop does not say that SHE was hitting 90, in fact she says it was an estimated of 80.
and that area is a 45, so it does not matter if she was hitting a 60, 70 or 80, the cop had to hit 90 to catch up after she passed her (wich is normal)
this comment is not to justify the wrong behaviour of the cop, as the problem here is the action based on the flip of a coin and this act is atrocious, but regardless of the REAL problem with the wrongdoing... the speedster is guilty of speeding (that part is like true and the speedster itself acknowledged she was driving at "80" as she does not denies this saying she was driving much slower)

Interesting perspective. Sounds like a common-sense principle. I think we all depend on police to be the most common-sense people out there. Thanks for that.
Cops should have to ride around for 2 years with a veteran of 10+ years before they go out on their own that would make a difference for the better. I've supported cops for the first 30 years of my life but after the last 6 years I find it really hard to support or trust any of them now.
@@joshsmith7176 generally, they ride for two to four months. It’s not enough anymore and I agree with your sentiment. On the west coast US, it’s at least four months after a six month academy. Just right off the bat: If you're a cop and "someone is doing 90" and you "did 90 to catch up to them" then they couldn't have been going 90 or you wouldn't have caught them. Math ain't that hard.
Apparently, math is hard for a lot of cops. They use this line quite a lot. "I had to do 100 to catch up to you, so you must've been going 100, too." Wait, what?
Math aptitude testing was replaced with a ‘can you draw this picture’.
I was thinking the exact same thing... plus she said she was sitting still in her car and the woman "flew past her" she wouldn't of been able to catch her that fast if she was sitting still and the lady was going that fast as she claims. It's just plain stupid.
That's a typical weasel lie that cops say when they want to make someone sound guilty.
ESPECIALLY when she admitted she was at a "stand still".
This was done with the sole purpose of humiliating a woman and punishing her.
Maybe, or maybe she thought the woman had no right speeding in such cute shoes.
That's what cops love to do.
Seems like a couple cops who upheld their state's speeding laws.
How she was going 80ish on a 40. They were in their authority to arrest her they just had the option to release her.
are you feminist?
I was with my dad when he got pulled over for speeding. Cop told him he was going 10 mph over, which he was. Dad said he wanted to see the radar gun readout. Cop said he had already cleared it off of the screen. Didn't write him a ticket because he knew a judge would throw out the charge anyway.
Because 10 over is a silly reason to stop someone. It also depends on the law in the state the stop happens. If they can use their judgement to estimate speed, it would fly. If not, it would be dropped.
So they arrest people for driving to fast? Why just only write a ticket?

Well done. However, using only 4 police cars to arrest a polite woman for speeding was a little risky. Next time bring at least 10 police cars, and a fire truck. And if there are any children, arrest them too, and remember to put them in handcuffs.

This is why in the UK, if highway police suspect someone is speeding, they have to follow you for 3/4 of a mile to provide proof of this speed.
This gives time for camera footage with a speed stamp of matched speed.
Not an estimate by catch up speed, as this can be any arbitrary value.
Well we have speed radar in most cop cars here, so that isn’t required. The catch is if they don’t calibrate the radar before that shift, all of their speeding stops for that day can be tossed out if someone challenges them. Not many people do, as this isn’t widely known.
@@carriehesketh3555 The tech works great if people read the manual and stick to the operation rules, but going by what I have seen from a lot of cop cam footage, sadly, following procedure isn't a strong point.

I was in law enforcement for about a decade. Lots of officers feel the need to get results, to the point where it seemed like they "created something out of nothing". People in that position of power need to realize that being arrested can change a person's entire life! Freedom, their career, their finances, etc. all are in the hands of the officer. Not everyone is cut out for that level of authority.
@Timothy Lewis I too am former law enforcement and I found so much wrong with how this traffic stop was conducted. Personally I think they got what they deserved; however, I can only surmise that those officers would not have suffered the same level of discipline had they did the same to a black motorist.
